Doomsday Awakening GL - Chapter 18
An Yimu gripped the spider leg tightly and walked forward. After an unknown amount of time, a faint light began to penetrate through the darkness ahead.
An Yimu moved cautiously along the rock face, walking on the balls of her feet to avoid making a sound. How could there be light in this crevasse? Sunlight couldn’t reach here. Could there be other people or creatures ahead?
With this thought, An Yimu’s heart pounded, unsure if it was more due to nervousness or fear.
As she got closer, An Yimu realized that the area ahead was completely white. A wall, about 10 meters high, stood straight up in the middle of the crevasse. An Yimu didn’t know what it was. This white wall was smooth and crystalline, entirely milky white, looking as if it were made of jade. It was this object that illuminated the entire area.
The surroundings were silent, save for the howling of the wind blowing through the crevasse.
An Yimu slowly approached the white wall and reached out to touch it. What she felt was a cool sensation, smooth as silk and refreshing as water.
An Yimu was stunned. She hadn’t expected such a sight a thousand meters down.
Just then, her hand that was touching the white wall passed right through it, as if the white wall were just an illusion. An Yimu had been supporting her weight with one hand on the wall, and now, she tumbled entirely into the white wall! She was shocked, immediately stood up, and tried to walk out, but the white wall had become solid again! She was trapped inside this white wall! The thought made her break out in a cold sweat.
The inside of the white wall was brightly lit, and everything around her was white.
Just as she was carefully touching the wall, looking for a way out, she heard the sound of wind by her ear.
She instinctively crouched low to dodge. Gripping the spider leg, she turned to look, but saw only whiteness and nothing else.
An Yimu swallowed hard, vigilantly looking around. There was something in here, but she couldn’t see it. It was highly likely that it was the same color as the white wall and blended into the environment, which was why she couldn’t see it.
Half an hour passed, and nothing else happened. This made An Yimu suspect, Did I mistake what I felt earlier? Impossible! Her hearing was three times that of a normal person. She clearly heard the sound of wind just now.
She calmed herself down, closed her eyes, held her breath, and pricked up her ears, listening intently to the sounds around her.
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh…
An Yimu gripped the spider leg and swung it toward the sound of the wind. Suddenly, a sharp shriek rang out.
Squeak, squeak…
An Yimu subconsciously opened her eyes, just in time to see a small white snake-like thing merging into the white wall. However, a small black spot on its body betrayed its location.
It seemed the spider leg had struck this thing, and the poison had taken effect, creating a black spot. This black spot was particularly conspicuous in the white expanse. An Yimu fixed her eyes on the black spot. The black spot moved slowly on the white wall. Without this black spot, she wouldn’t have been able to tell there was anything there.
Thinking it was best to strike first, An Yimu slowly approached the thing.
Her grip on the spider leg tightened even more.
She suddenly thrust the spider leg toward the black spot.
Squeak, squeak, squeak… Squeak, squeak, squeak… Squeak, squeak, squeak…
An Yimu shivered all over, a profound coldness gripping her heart, as if she had fallen into an ice cellar.
The entire white wall area was filled with this piercing screeching, raising goosebumps on her skin.
An Yimu then realized that this thing might be a social creature. Killing one had provoked the collective anger. At the same time, a tiny bit of milky-white energy flowed into the bean-shaped body in her brain. She was even more surprised. This thing also contained this energy? Although it was very little, just a tiny bit, it was indeed there.
The squeaking sounds rose and fell, but An Yimu couldn’t see anything. She only heard the sound of wind suddenly rising beside her. She immediately began to swing the spider leg, eventually managing it like nunchaku, which barely kept the thin white things from getting close to her.
Things kept falling. An Yimu could even feel herself stepping on something soft, immediately feeling a surge of nausea.
Screeech—
A sound louder than all the previous screeches rang out.
An Yimu squinted her eyes and looked toward the source of the sound. She saw an all-white, caterpillar-like insect appear. This Snow Silkworm had a diameter of one meter. Its length was unclear, as half of its body was submerged in the white wall, making it look more like a giant python. A bl00d-red pattern was on the Snow Silkworm’s forehead, and its black eyes were as large as copper bells, radiating a dangerous light.
The Snow Silkworm’s body shimmered with a silver light, as if covered by a layer of scales.
At this moment, the surrounding squeaking sounds gradually diminished, and nothing else attacked An Yimu. Only An Yimu and the Snow Silkworm faced each other.
An Yimu was relieved at first. If she had been ambushed by those tiny things while fighting the Snow Silkworm, it would have been disastrous. Just based on numbers, she wouldn’t have stood a chance.
The Snow Silkworm let out a long howl, and its enormous body rolled toward An Yimu.
An Yimu used her three-times-normal speed to the extreme, barely managing to dodge. Relying on her agility, she thrust the spider leg in her hand toward the Snow Silkworm.
Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle… The collision of the two created an ear-piercing grinding sound.
The spider leg scraped across the Snow Silkworm’s body but failed to leave even a scratch.
The Snow Silkworm grew impatient with An Yimu’s constant dodging. It opened its mouth and spat out white silk threads. The threads were tougher than steel and poked small holes in the ground when they touched it.
An Yimu was alarmed. If these threads struck her, they could instantly tear her in half.
In a short while, the ground was covered with silk threads. An Yimu realized that these threads were sticky. If the entire white wall was covered, wouldn’t she be an insect stuck in a spider’s web?
Deciding quickly, An Yimu leaped and jumped onto the Snow Silkworm’s back.
The Snow Silkworm’s huge body thrashed wildly, attempting to shake An Yimu off.
The scales on the Snow Silkworm’s body were slick and hard. An Yimu quickly found she couldn’t hold on. She had to use the force of the Snow Silkworm’s thrashing to flip in the air and jump onto the Snow Silkworm’s head. The Snow Silkworm was enraged now and violently slammed its head against the ground. An Yimu was shaken dizzy, but she quickly plunged the spider leg into the Snow Silkworm’s head to avoid being thrown off.
An Yimu hadn’t expected the scales on the Snow Silkworm’s head to be so weak in defense.
Joy surged in her heart. She pulled out the spider leg and lunged toward the Snow Silkworm’s eye.
The Snow Silkworm shrieked loudly, and its tail whipped upwards.
Just as the spider leg was about to pierce the eye, the Snow Silkworm quickly shut its eye. The eyelid was extremely tough, and the spider leg failed to injure the Snow Silkworm.
To avoid the Snow Silkworm’s enormous tail, she had to jump off its head. The spider leg had already pierced the Snow Silkworm’s head, so the toxin must have entered. All that was left was to buy time.
The Snow Silkworm was furious. It opened its mouth and sprayed silk threads everywhere, covering itself and An Yimu like a giant net.
An Yimu had nowhere to hide. The threads fell on her and clung tightly.
The Snow Silkworm dragged its body and slid toward An Yimu.
An Yimu’s eyes darted to the totem on the Snow Silkworm’s forehead. She immediately hurled the spider leg in her hand toward the totem. It was a one-time chance and gamble.
The Snow Silkworm was unprepared and was suddenly struck in the forehead totem by the spider leg. An expression of disbelief appeared in its pitch-black eyes.
Screeech—
The Snow Silkworm raised its head and let out a long howl. A dazzling red light erupted from its forehead.
With a loud bang, the Snow Silkworm’s body crashed to the ground. It struggled violently for a while and then went completely still.
An Yimu covered her chest, gasping for breath. A sharp pain shot through her brain. A massive amount of milky-white energy rushed into the palm of her hand and then converged into the bean-shaped body in her brain. The bean-shaped body, which was almost full, instantly shattered, turning into countless white lights scattered in An Yimu’s mind, and then coalescing into an even larger bean-shaped body. The energy from this Snow Silkworm filled more than half of the newly formed bean-shaped body!
A warm current spread throughout her body. Her internal injuries, scrapes, and fatigue all vanished. Her strength rapidly recovered. At the same time, her hearing, vision, and speed reached four times that of an ordinary person. She had broken through and reached Third-Tier Awakener.
An Yimu let out a long sigh of relief.
As the Snow Silkworm died, the light inside the white wall gradually faded. The Snow Silkworm’s body also began to melt. An Yimu could now clearly see that the inside of the white wall was densely covered with tiny Snow Silkworms.
The silk threads spat out by the Snow Silkworm also began to dissolve. The wriggling small Snow Silkworms began to melt, and the white wall also disappeared, leaving only a single gleam of light behind.
An Yimu cautiously walked over and picked up the object emitting the light. It was a jade pendant strung on a red cord. The totem on the jade pendant was exactly the same as the one on the Snow Silkworm’s forehead.
She secretly thought that this object must have some other use and tucked it into her innermost clothing.
