Doomsday Awakening GL - Chapter 25
An Yimu’s expression instantly changed. The sheer number of these spiders was far too great for their small group to handle. They were only about 80 people, and just as the mutated spiders appeared, 4 people died instantly. These spiders were clearly communal, and there was absolutely no chance of winning.
She immediately turned and pulled Lan Chang to run outside.
“Ah…!” A man screamed, clutching his face, and instantly fell to the ground, a large bloody hole ripped open on his back. A slightly smaller spider crawled out of the man’s body.
In a short time, the farmhouse was filled with spiders. The remaining 70-odd people ran outside while simultaneously killing spiders.
Xu Zhili’s face was ashen. He hadn’t expected to wait this long only to have their plans ruined by this swarm of mutated spiders. At this moment, the only choice was to flee for their lives. He dodged the mutated spiders and rushed outside, quickly outrunning the crowd with his second-stage Awakener strength.
An Yimu reacted early and had already run out with Lan Chang, but a few mutated spiders were still in pursuit. Eight legs were much faster than two.
A mutated spider suddenly leaped, all eight legs spread, and lunged towards An Yimu.
An Yimu slammed on the brakes, turned, and instantly impaled the mutated spider with her Spider Spear. Like a skewer, the spider magnified before her eyes: its single eyes, chelicerae, and the jaw-like lobes of its pedipalps. An Yimu saw it all clearly.
So disgusting… A chill ran down An Yimu’s spine.
A trace of energy shot out from the spider’s body, channeling through An Yimu’s gear-shaped birthmark into the nodule in her brain. The energy in the nodule was already more than halfway full.
Just then, a mutated spider nearby took the opportunity to circle around, spraying white silk from its mouthparts, trying to entangle An Yimu’s legs.
An Yimu leaped to dodge, heavily flicked her hand, shaking the impaled mutated spider off the Spider Spear. Flipping in mid-air, she hurled the Spider Spear. It flew like an arrow released from a bowstring, pinning the mutated spider to the ground. The mutated spider struggled twice and then ceased moving.
Four or five mutated spiders surrounding them suddenly launched a simultaneous attack on An Yimu.
“Lan Chang! Run!”
An Yimu pulled back the Spider Spear. Seeing the increasing number of spiders, she shouted at Lan Chang, simultaneously kicking away one mutated spider and slicing off another’s leg with the Spider Spear.
Lan Chang stared blankly at An Yimu and didn’t move.
An Yimu then recalled that the maggots and mutated ants hadn’t attacked Lan Chang that day. She wondered if these mutated spiders would also avoid Lan Chang. After kicking away a few spiders, she ran towards Lan Chang. Regardless, she didn’t possess that ability, so running was the priority.
A few more people ran out from behind—the second-stage Awakeners: Xu Zhili, Qin Yumo, the man with the fierce face, the quiet man, and the leader of the group that arrived last, along with a few scattered first-stage Awakeners also followed suit.
Everyone’s faces were masks of terror, twisted in expression, as if they wished they had more legs to escape.
Behind them were an overwhelming tide of mutated spiders. The area looked like a swathe of multi-colored silk.
Everyone ran forward desperately. An Yimu was then startled to realize that they were running in the direction of the place guarded by a thousand zombies.
Zombies in front, mutated spiders behind. This was truly terrible. The thought of facing those spiders made An Yimu’s face turn pale. She would rather face the zombies.
She suddenly thought that mutates and zombies should be mutually exclusive. It would be perfect to lure these mutated spiders over. Once the two sides clashed, they could take the opportunity to escape.
Screams constantly echoed from behind.
Someone accidentally stumbled and, before they could get up, was engulfed by the swarm of spiders. They never got up again, and in a short while, not even bones were left.
One person after another fell.
Some people inside no longer concealed their strength, unleashing their second-stage abilities to run forward, terrified of being left behind to feed the mutated spiders.
Soon, they reached the area where a thousand zombies were gathered.
The commotion quickly drew the zombies’ attention, and they gradually surged towards the human group.
An Yimu looked at the zombie horde, and with just one glance, she felt like spitting bl00d. This Xu Zhili had indeed concealed a lot.
Just among the zombies An Yimu could see, there were several second-stage Hardened Zombies, several second-stage Crab-like Zombies, several second-stage Spider-like Zombies, and some other types of zombies.
But at this point, there was no time to worry about it.
An Yimu let out a clear shout: “Lan Chang! Stay close to me!” After speaking, she gripped the Spider Spear and charged in.
Charging straight through, she would kill anyone who stood in her way, be it god or Buddha.
An Yimu charged straight in, and no zombie was able to stop her.
The few people who followed were stunned. Xu Zhili looked at An Yimu’s valiant figure and instantly guessed that this woman must be a third-stage Awakener! There was a gap in speed between each stage of Awakeners, and all of them hadn’t been able to keep up with An Yimu just now.
Qin Yumo was also very surprised. She hadn’t expected a human to break through to the third stage, and the arrogance on her face receded.
A few more screams came from behind.
Shush—Shush—
Mutated spiders caught up, one on top of the other. Some Awakeners, while running, were entangled by spider silk shot out by the mutated spiders, causing them to fall to the ground. That Awakener cried and yelled: “Save me…! Please! Save me! I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die, ah ah ah ah—”
His cries for help were quickly drowned out by the swarm of mutated spiders. At this moment, no one would turn back to save him. People were focused on self-preservation. Who would throw away their life to save yours? Especially when facing an insurmountable swarm of mutated spiders.
An Yimu’s actions drew a massive counterattack from the surrounding zombies, especially some of the second-stage zombies, which rushed towards her.
An Yimu noticed that the zombies did not show any fear of Lan Chang. It seemed this effect only applied to mutates. She had no choice but to protect Lan Chang while slaughtering the surrounding zombies.
The nodule in her brain was more than half full, but after killing no less than twenty Initial Zombies in this rush, not much energy was channeled into her brain. An Yimu knew that these zombies were too low-level, and only killing second-stage zombies would yield useful energy. The higher the level, the harder it was to advance, and the more energy was needed.
A second-stage Crab-like Zombie arrived, roaring loudly, and swung its long tail bone at An Yimu.
An Yimu rolled to dodge, then sprang up in a powerful backflip. The Spider Spear in her hand was wielded proficiently.
She dared not prolong the fight. After successfully holding back the zombies, she instantly clamped Lan Chang at her waist with one hand and ran swiftly towards the perimeter. Because of her four-times-human physical strength, holding Lan Chang felt very light.
At this moment, Xu Zhili and the others also arrived from behind.
Over twenty people charged into the zombie horde together. Each one performed extraordinarily, and along the way, one person even successfully advanced to a second-stage Awakener.
The pursuing mutated spiders also rushed into the zombie horde, and the two sides immediately began to fight.
Some zombies were dismembered, some spiders were trampled flat, some zombies were wrapped up like zongzi, and some spiders were torn apart. The scene completely lost control and was utter chaos.
Humans, zombies, and mutates—three sides were locked in a fight. Clearly, humans were the weakest.
Xu Zhili and the others were fighting with increasing courage at first, but as more second-stage zombies kept arriving, they quickly struggled, trapped in the middle of the zombie horde.
The few of them were the same rank as the zombies, making the fight very strenuous. Moreover, they had to be wary of the surrounding Initial Zombies and mutated spiders. A single mistake could cost them their lives.
Even the man with the fierce face now showed a look of panic in his eyes.
The somewhat plump uncle, despite his exceptional strength, could barely cope, his face aghast. He had previously assumed Xu Zhili’s words were just an excuse, never expecting there to be so many zombies here, and many of them were second-stage.
The other quiet man suddenly roared in anger and violently charged into the group of second-stage zombies, then quickly jumped out and fled after a few maneuvers.
Everyone understood. They couldn’t linger in the fight now; they had to escape quickly. Otherwise, they would be attacked from both sides. Several people quickly followed suit, breaking free from the encirclement, no longer fighting, and chasing in the direction An Yimu had fled.
The number of mutated spiders was massive, surging into the zombie horde like a tide, equally unstoppable.
The zombies quickly launched a counterattack, with several special zombies also displaying their abilities to brutally slaughter the mutated spiders.
The roars of the zombies and the sharp shrieks of the spiders mixed together, making the listeners tremble with fear.
An Yimu didn’t dare to look back, running desperately the whole way. Slowing down even slightly at this moment could mean death. Only when the surroundings became quiet and she could no longer see or hear the roars of the zombies did she stop, collapsing onto the ground in exhaustion.
Lan Chang also had a thin layer of sweat on her body, her innocent eyes looking at An Yimu. She seemed completely unaffected by the escape. Perhaps she didn’t understand why they had to run. Whatever the reason, only Lan Chang herself would know.
An Yimu was drenched in sweat. The fringe of hair on her forehead stuck to her face. It was still the early morning, and a gust of wind made her shiver all over. “Achoo…” An Yimu rubbed her nose, thinking, I hope I’m not catching a cold.
“Something’s coming, Mu,” Lan Chang suddenly said, looking into the distance.
An Yimu didn’t notice the change in Lan Chang’s address for her. Her eyes narrowed as she looked in the direction Lan Chang was gazing. Sure enough, she saw a black figure rapidly approaching them. The speed was even faster than hers, indicating the Awakener’s level was above hers.
