Doomsday Awakening GL - Chapter 3
The man was very cheerful. After walking over, he first introduced himself and then asked them if they were planning to go into Meixian county.
An Yimu did not like to talk to people, so she winked at Nuan Qianyu.
Based on their many years of tacit understanding, Nuan Qianyu immediately understood. She stood up and did not introduce herself, but simply told the man, whose name was Li Ke, that they were not planning to enter the city, but just wanted to rest for a while.
Li Ke nodded, then gave them two bottles of mineral water and smiled, “All of us gathered here are preparing to rest and then enter the city. You probably didn’t bring any water since you just came out. Here are two bottles of mineral water, please don’t be shy.”
Nuan Qianyu covered her mouth and chuckled, “Oh my, Brother Li, you are too kind.” She took the water. “Thank you so much.”
Li Ke stared intently at Nuan Qianyu, gave a dry laugh, and turned to walk towards Zhang Shan and the others.
An Yimu looked thoughtfully at the exchange between the two, remaining silent.
Nuan Qianyu handed a bottle to An Yimu, then opened the one in her hand. “If it weren’t for him giving us water, I, your old lady, would definitely dig out those perverted eyeballs of his.” As she said this, she brought the bottle to her mouth.
“Wait.” Ling Qiuyu furrowed her delicate brows. “This person is too strange. Why would he give us water for no reason?”
Nuan Qianyu was about to drink but was abruptly choked by Ling Qiuyu’s shout. “Uh, maybe he saw we are pretty girls and wanted to please us.” Nuan Qianyu was always very confident about her looks.
“But he also gave water to Song Xuezhi and the others. I just feel like it’s strange.” Ling Qiuyu puffed out her cheeks, speaking earnestly.
Nuan Qianyu thought about it and felt something was off, but why worry so much over a bottle of water? After thinking for a moment, she said, “Maybe he’s a good person.”
“Would a good person look at you with such lecherous eyes? Xiaomu, say something.” Ling Qiuyu’s limpid eyes stared at An Yimu with a hint of grievance.
An Yimu had just found a hat and placed it on Ling Qiuyu’s head to shield her from the sun, and seeing her look at her like that, she chuckled for a rare moment.
“Look at those few people over there,” An Yimu pointed to the few people sitting in the direction Li Ke had walked from. “They have been watching us intentionally or unintentionally.”
Nuan Qianyu immediately sensed a conspiracy in her tone and quickly moved closer to An Yimu, almost wanting to grab a stool and a box of popcorn.
“Li Ke said they were preparing to enter the city, but look at their clothes. They are all stained with dirt, and some even have bloodstains. I suspect they are not entering the city, but escaping from it. Meixian county is probably occupied by zombies. Think about it, under the current uncertain circumstances, without government rescue, supplies are very scarce. Yet, he gave us water. I suspect there’s something added to the water.” She then pointed to the mineral water bottle in her hand. “Look, the cap here has been opened.”
Nuan Qianyu’s eyes widened, and she looked at An Yimu with admiration. “You’re good, Little An An. You’re a science student, indeed, your thinking is so rigorous.”
Ling Qiuyu listened and was silent for a moment before she slowly said, “Should we tell Song Xuezhi and the others?”
An Yimu shook her head. “Everyone has their own fate. We are already deep in the wolf’s den. If a few more people know, those guys might act prematurely, and we won’t be able to escape either.”
“Life for a life. Do they dare to break the law?” Nuan Qianyu whispered.
An Yimu smiled. This silly girl was a spoiled young lady who had been indulged by her parents and didn’t know the evils of the world.
An Yimu told them to pretend to drink the water and then go back to the car to rest.
Song Xuezhi, Zhang Shan, and Gao Jingwen had no supplies in their car, so they thanked Li Ke and drank the water without any precaution.
An Yimu leaned against the car, pretending to sleep, but in reality, she was watching the men’s movements with narrowed eyes. It was broad daylight, yet a van was covered with a black cloth. Every now and then, men would come down, and other men would go up. It looked bizarre no matter how she looked at it. There were about 10 people in this group, and she didn’t know how many were inside the van. Four cars were parked around the van, and some scattered cars were parked further away with no one in them. She didn’t know if they were cars left behind after dealing with zombies or if the people were inside the cars and hadn’t gotten out.
After about 30 minutes, eight men came over.
An Yimu glanced out of the corner of her eye. Sure enough, Song Xuezhi and the three of them were lying on the ground, sound asleep.
The faces of the men who walked over changed when they saw An Yimu leaning against the car and looking at them.
Li Ke said awkwardly, “I saw them suddenly collapse on the ground, so I came over to check. We have a doctor in our van.”
An Yimu raised an eyebrow and smiled, “That’s perfect. I’m injured, so I’ll go too.” Then, without batting an eyelid, she hid the police baton under her trench coat.
A man next to Li Ke showed a look of joy, his eyes staring openly at An Yimu’s face. An Yimu lowered her eyes, pretending not to notice.
Li Ke instructed six people to lift the unconscious Song Xuezhi and the other two, and then a few of them walked towards the van.
After lifting the three people inside, they let An Yimu enter.
As An Yimu got into the car, she saw a few people walking towards their car, and the corner of her mouth curled up in disdain. The moment her front foot stepped onto the car, someone reached out to grab her. An Yimu reacted swiftly, pulled out the police baton, and swung it. The man immediately screamed and fell onto the ground. The police baton was useless against zombies, but quite effective against people.
Although An Yimu was mentally prepared, she was still blinded by rage when she saw the scene inside.
All the seats in the van had been removed, and a quilt was spread on the floor. A fat man was squinting, thrusting with all his might. The little girl under him was no more than 15 or 16 years old, her face still very tender. The girl was already half-unconscious, instinctively whimpering for mercy.
The girl hung on the man like a broken sack, her snow-white thighs covered in bl00d and white fluid.
An Yimu’s eyes instantly turned red, and the veins on the back of her hands bulged. Remembering the men constantly going up and down the car earlier, a surge of anger shot to the top of her head. Under the fat man’s horrified gaze, she slammed the police baton into his head with force. The man’s eyes rolled back, and the sound of a bone breaking came from his neck. He immediately went silent.
The men outside suddenly heard that something was wrong inside, opened the car door, and rushed up. At the same time, the few people walking towards An Yimu’s car also screamed, twitching and lying on the ground.
The car door was small, only allowing one person to enter at a time. An Yimu hit every person who came up, showing absolutely no mercy. These scum were a menace to society just by being alive. For An Yimu, who had always believed in the beauty of the world, this was like throwing an atomic bomb.
Suddenly, the noise outside grew louder. Before An Yimu could do anything, a group of men and women came up and started beating the remaining men. At the same time, a woman, almost crawling, tearfully entered the car, embraced the unconscious girl, and cried loudly.
Infected by the atmosphere, even the strong An Yimu had red eyes. It turned out that the seemingly empty cars all had people inside, but they had endured in silence out of fear of this group of people. As soon as An Yimu took the lead, these people also came out to vent their anger.
Ling Qiuyu and Nuan Qianyu, who had rushed over, naturally saw it too. The three of them were silent for a moment.
“These beasts!” Even the scatterbrained Nuan Qianyu realized what had happened. She cursed a few times and then got out of the car. She wanted to beat these despicable guys to death! Ptooey! That was an insult to pigs and dogs; dogs were human beings’ good friends after all!
An Yimu saw that Song Xuezhi and the others were still unconscious. She suppressed the anger in her heart, calmed down for a moment, and then woke the three of them up.
After hearing the sequence of events, all three of them changed their expressions. Zhang Shan and Gao Jingwen also got out of the car to join the crowd in beating the men. Song Xuezhi’s face was even worse. If An Yimu hadn’t rescued her, she would have been… she couldn’t even imagine it.
Zhang Shan found out from those people that there were no living people left in Meixian county. These men and women had all escaped from it. Zhang Shan and Gao Jingwen’s parents were in Meixian county, and the two grown men knelt on the ground and wept bitterly.
After dealing with Li Ke’s group, An Yimu realized that reality was somewhat different from what she had thought. So, she and Ling Qiuyu and Nuan Qianyu sorted their food, packed three backpacks, with each person taking responsibility for a share, prioritizing perishable food. They also prepared necessary daily supplies, as she feared an emergency might require them to abandon the car and flee. Fortunately, they were out for a vacation and had prepared relatively sufficient food and supplies.
An Yimu drove the car to a gas station, filled up the tank, and prepared to take a detour back to Chongming City.
Finally, Song Xuezhi and the three expressed their willingness to go with them, so two cars set off. An Yimu did not want to stay in that place for a moment longer. Even though those men had been severely beaten, when that girl woke up… it would be a lifelong nightmare.
The time was now 7:30, and An Yimu planned to rest in the next county or stop in a relatively empty place.
In the end, three cars set off, with one family of three also following them, preparing to return to the city.
