Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
With Gu Lian handling the matter, Jiang Chuxie had little to worry about, but Zhang Luping, following Liu Wen’s instructions, still updated her regularly on the case’s progress.
With solid evidence and Gu Lian’s influence, it took only about two weeks from filing to the trial. During that time, Jiang Chuxie stayed holed up in her dorm coding, aside from attending classes, interacting almost exclusively with Zhuang Qi.
The male Omega she’d saved twice showed up a few times, but she ignored him. Somehow, he’d gotten friendly with Zhuang Qi. As for Zhuang Qi, she was busy with Zhao Zi preparing the freshman mixer, spending little time in the dorm.
On the trial day, Jiang Chuxie spent nearly an hour in front of the mirror, aiming to blend into the crowd unnoticed.
The idea of hiding her appearance with just glasses sounded ridiculous, but this world was ridiculous enough. After discovering that covering her eyes reduced people’s attention to her, Jiang Chuxie felt only relief, not bothering to question the logic.
From the main story, it was clear this scummy Alpha mom had a flashy, seductive look, especially her fox-like eyes, always squinting with a scheming air.
No wonder Gu Lian suspected her from the start.
“Chuxie, where are you off to today?”
Zhuang Qi, swamped lately, had slept in for once and noticed her roommate fussing for ages that morning.
“Nothing. I’m heading out.”
In her previous world, this incident would’ve spread like wildfire on campus. But here, without instant-recording phones or massive social media, information traveled slowly. With the school and the Gu family suppressing the news, everything proceeded quietly.
Jiang Chuxie had no intention of letting it slip. Drawing attention was never her goal.
She rode in the car Gu Lian arranged to the courthouse and, unsurprisingly, saw Gu Lingjun again. They hadn’t contacted each other these two weeks, with Gu Lian handling all communication.
From the way Gu Lingjun avoided eye contact now, it was obvious she knew Jiang Chuxie had asked Gu Lian for money and was disappointed!
That was… that was great!
Jiang Chuxie tried to ignore the strange pang in her chest, convincing herself with logic.
This was her goal all along. Even if she was seen as a lowlife, she lost nothing.
The trial went smoothly. With ironclad evidence, Zhao Gang confessed, receiving a three-year sentence. The surveillance footage meant Jiang Chuxie’s role as a witness was brief, and the defense lawyer, aiming to reduce the sentence through a guilty plea, didn’t press her hard.
As soon as the verdict was announced, Jiang Chuxie was eager to slip away. The Gu family hadn’t noticed her, but Zhang Luping stopped her at the entrance.
Zhang Luping, a tall and dashing Alpha, towered half a head over the already tall Jiang Chuxie. Straightforward and upright, once he confirmed Jiang Chuxie wasn’t a romantic rival and saw her character, he treated her like a sister.
“Xiao Jiang, why the rush? Boss Gu wanted to thank you in person.”
Jiang Chuxie’s head throbbed. “Brother Zhang, they’ve already thanked me. I’ve got something to do, so I’m off.”
“Come on, you’re always doing good deeds anonymously.” Zhang Luping slung an arm over her shoulder, laughing heartily. “Fine, I won’t force you if you don’t like the spotlight. But your Sister Liu misses you—she’s been mentioning you. Punishing this Alpha scum is cause for celebration. Come home with me, and let your sister cook you something nice.”
“Well…”
Jiang Chuxie hesitated, but Zhang Luping leaned in and whispered, “Wen asked you to pick up suppressants.”
In this world, people cared far more about secondary gender than primary, so Zhang Luping casually threw an arm around Jiang Chuxie, another Alpha. But she wasn’t used to it and subtly stepped back.
“Got it. Then…”
As they spoke, the Gu family—Gu Lingjun, her mother Gu Lian, and her Beta father, Mu Qing, as Jiang Chuxie recalled—walked out of the courthouse.
“Miss Jiang?” Gu Lian spoke first, looking at Zhang Luping and Jiang Chuxie with surprise. “You already know Officer Zhang?”
Zhang Luping hadn’t initially handled Gu Lingjun’s case, but after Gu Lian’s arrival, his superiors assigned him, a team leader, to assist. During the case, he and Jiang Chuxie had little contact, so their familiarity now suggested a prior connection.
Jiang Chuxie wanted to say they weren’t close, but Zhang Luping clapped her shoulder, laughing. “Yeah, I’ve known Xiao Jiang for a while. She’s reliable, isn’t she?”
Gu Lian smiled faintly, nodding. “Miss Jiang is indeed reliable. Could it be that Officer Zhang took my daughter’s case so seriously because…”
“Hahaha, nothing like that. It’s just my duty, Boss Gu. You’re too kind.”
His words practically confirmed Gu Lian’s implication. Jiang Chuxie wanted to cover her face, but a glance from the side froze her.
She noticed, from the corner of her eye, Gu Lingjun staring at her with a subtle look. The reason she could tell it was subtle was because Gu Lingjun’s gaze lingered unblinkingly on her shoulder for over a minute.
“Ahem, I’ve got things to do, so I’ll go. Take your time chatting.”
Zhang Luping and Gu Lian kept chatting, but Jiang Chuxie couldn’t stand it anymore. Gu Lingjun’s stare was overwhelming, and she didn’t care about getting suppressants from Liu Wen—she just wanted to bolt.
“Hey, Xiao Jiang—” Zhang Luping wasn’t quick enough to stop her as she slipped away, ready to run without a word. “This kid, really…”
But before he finished, Mu Qing, who hadn’t spoken until now, suddenly cut in.
“Miss Jiang, what’s the hurry? Why don’t I have the driver take you?”
He didn’t just speak—he acted, extending an arm that blocked Jiang Chuxie’s path.
Jiang Chuxie’s impression of Mu Qing was vague. The story, aside from its adult scenes, gave little space to the heroine’s Beta grandfather.
Her current impression was that he looked very Omega-like but lacked Gu Lingjun’s timid air.
“No need…”
Jiang Chuxie tried to refuse, but Mu Qing cut her off again.
“You’ve helped Lingjun so much, and we haven’t properly thanked you. That’s not right. You came to testify despite your busy schedule, so it’s only fair we offer you a ride. Please don’t refuse our gesture.”
“It’s not really…”
“Or do you not actually have urgent business? If not, please do us the honor of joining us for a meal.”
Was Gu’s father this forceful?
Jiang Chuxie was caught in a bind, and worse, she noticed Gu Lingjun’s gaze had shifted to her face.
