Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Gu Lingjun had been staying at home lately, attending classes on time but rarely showing up at the student council.
With Zhao Gang’s sudden withdrawal, the Life Sciences student council president position was vacant. As vice president, Zhao Zi naturally took over, becoming one of the few Omega presidents.
Under Zhao Zi’s leadership, the student council not only ran smoothly and efficiently but also resolved lingering issues. The upcoming university welcome party was her first time co-organizing a major event, and the entire college council took it seriously.
As a freshman, Gu Lingjun’s absence during the busy preparations was hard to justify, so she joined the final preparations as soon as the matter was settled.
Though there were special circumstances, it wasn’t something to broadcast. The school and Gu Lian agreed to keep it quiet, so few students knew the truth behind Zhao Gang’s withdrawal. Naturally, some council members were displeased.
Still, President Zhao Zi remained kind to Gu Lingjun, and others, even if unhappy, kept quiet.
“Lingjun, have you found a dance partner for the weekend welcome party?”
It was already dark, and only Gu Lingjun and Zhao Zi remained in the student council office. Gu Lingjun, part of the finance department, had taken on the final event budget calculations after her return, keeping her busy until now.
“Not yet. What about you, President?”
“I’ve got one, sort of. You might know her—Zhuang Qi from Computer Science.”
“Oh, that president.”
Zhuang Qi was well-known across the school, and Gu Lingjun had heard of her.
“That’s her. No other options, so when she asked, I agreed,” Zhao Zi said, smiling at Gu Lingjun. “Do you have someone in mind but haven’t asked, or no one at all?”
Gu Lingjun pursed her lips, asking, “Do you have to bring a dance partner to attend?”
“It’s not mandatory, but Omegas rarely go alone. You’ll get bothered if you do.”
Gu Lingjun’s delicate brows furrowed, and she murmured, “I see…”
“What, no one in our council catches your eye?”
“Hm, not yet.”
Zhao Zi was taken aback by her blunt, almost cutting remark. “Wow, you’re tougher than I thought.”
“Oh…” Gu Lingjun, realizing her misstep, covered her lips. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“It’s fine. If you don’t have anyone, I can introduce you. Omegas are scarce around Zhuang Qi, so even she, a council president, had to ask someone from another department.”
Alphas and Omegas were a small minority among students, but Alphas held over half the council positions, while Omegas were like mascots—almost guaranteed a spot if they joined. At events like the welcome party, Omegas usually paired up internally, so someone like Gu Lingjun, still without a partner, was bound to attract Alpha attention.
“No need, Senior. If it comes to it, I just won’t go.”
Zhao Zi’s smile faded, and she lowered her voice. “Lingjun, is it because of Zhao Gang that you’re scared to interact with Alphas?”
Gu Lingjun looked surprised. “You know, Senior?”
“Don’t let my looks fool you—I’ve got my sources. Don’t worry, I won’t tell.”
Gu Lingjun said gratefully, “Thank you, Senior. But it’s not that I’m scared of Alphas…”
“So you have someone in mind but aren’t sure they’ll agree?” Zhao Zi, sharp as ever, pieced it together from Gu Lingjun’s earlier behavior. “Weird, who’d refuse you?”
“I haven’t asked her, but I know she’d say no.”
Zhao Zi grew more curious. “Who is it, acting so high and mighty?”
Gu Lingjun shook her head. “It’s not that. She’s just… how do I put it? Different from typical Alphas. Senior, do you remember the female Alpha we met at the dorms on freshman registration day?”
“Her?” Zhao Zi not only remembered but knew her name—Jiang Chuxie, Zhuang Qi’s roommate. “How’d you two get involved?”
“Since you know about Senior Zhao, I won’t hide it.”
Gu Lingjun briefly recounted the incident to Zhao Zi, who grew more shocked, finally sighing, “I had no idea. No wonder you want to invite her.”
“She’s avoiding me. Forget inviting her—I can’t even run into her.”
Zhao Zi thought for a moment. “Then let your big sister help you out.”
“You’d help me, Senior?”
Zhao Zi nodded. “Yeah… call it making up for things.”
“Making up?”
“Well, it’s not great to say, but because of what Zhao Gang did to you, I became president. Consider it my thanks.”
She phrased it differently, and Gu Lingjun stared at her, eyes wide.
“Come on, don’t overthink it. Jiang Chuxie’s Zhuang Qi’s roommate. I’ll have Zhuang Qi be my mole and track her down. The rest is up to you.”
“So Miss Jiang and Senior Zhuang are roommates.”
“Yup, so leave it to me!”
Gu Lingjun hesitated slightly, and Zhao Zi patted her shoulder, encouraging, “It’s a new era—Omegas chasing Alphas isn’t shameful. Go for it, and I’ll be your solid backup.”
“In that case, thank you, Senior.”
Gu Lingjun’s thanks were sincere, tinged with a hint of guilt. Only now did she confirm Zhao Zi bore her no ill will.
With Gu Lian’s thoroughness, Zhao Gang’s background was fully investigated upon arrival, so Gu Lingjun knew early on that Zhao Gang was Zhao Zi’s distant cousin.
But they didn’t act close at school, never mentioning their relation. After Zhao Gang’s arrest, Zhao Zi showed no unusual reaction, suggesting their bond wasn’t strong.
Zhao Zi’s talk of compensation likely stemmed from that connection, and Gu Lingjun’s probing was because Zhao Zi had hidden it.
As for Zhuang Qi being Jiang Chuxie’s roommate, Gu Lingjun already knew. Uncle Wu, without hiring a detective, had gathered plenty about Jiang Chuxie’s situation.
Using Zhao Zi and Zhuang Qi to get close to Jiang Chuxie was a bit underhanded, but Gu Lingjun had no other way to create an opportunity.
She didn’t want to force Jiang Chuxie into anything—just to figure some things out.
