Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
In that instant, Jiang Chuxie’s mind flashed through the past six years since her transmigration, like a carousel of memories. Just then, Zhao Zi nudged her arm and laughed, “Hey, are you going to help?”
Realizing she’d been staring, Jiang Chuxie quickly averted her gaze from Gu Lingjun. But in that brief lapse, she caught a faint yet distinct fragrance. Almost immediately, she identified it as the scent of orchids.
Unlike Alphas, who often let their pheromones spread, most Omegas used suppressants to reduce their pheromone presence. For student Omegas, pheromone suppressants and heat suppressants were essentials.
For most people, these suppressants worked well. But Jiang Chuxie’s senses seemed sharper than the average Alpha’s, easily picking up and distinguishing even weakened pheromone scents. One reason she avoided Omegas was that even the faintest pheromone scent could disrupt her nerves and thoughts.
When she met Zhao Zi earlier, she’d tried hard to avoid breathing deeply, but now she’d slipped up. Yet, this scent didn’t seem to come from Zhao Zi but from the junior standing some distance away.
“Sorry, I’m not a Beta, so I’m afraid I can’t help you.”
Zhao Zi looked surprised. “You’re not a Beta?”
Jiang Chuxie hadn’t deliberately pretended to be a Beta; she just kept a low profile in daily life. Now, she didn’t hide it and nodded. “That’s right, I’m an Alpha. I came here at the dorm manager’s request to fix her computer. I didn’t enter the dorm earlier, and I can’t help you now.”
“Oh…”
Zhao Zi eyed Jiang Chuxie’s cold expression, her face showing a mix of belief and doubt.
Gu Lingjun spoke softly, “Senior, if she has things to do, don’t trouble her. I can wait a bit longer, it’s fine.”
Her gentle, melodious voice was so clear and ethereal that Jiang Chuxie couldn’t help but think of a spring deep in a forest, nearly missing the meaning of her words—this female Omega seemed to think Jiang Chuxie’s explanation was just an excuse to dodge helping.
Jiang Chuxie couldn’t resist glancing at Gu Lingjun again.
Perhaps from standing in the sun too long, a faint pink flush colored her porcelain skin. Her soft black hair clung obediently to her forehead, and her slightly lowered eyelids trembled, with long, curled lashes fluttering like golden butterflies, casting a dreamy halo…
Jiang Chuxie snapped out of it, suddenly realizing that ever since her gaze landed on this Omega girl, her mind kept conjuring overly poetic descriptions.
Though every phrase felt apt, for someone like her, who had zero romantic sensibility, such thoughts were a bit bizarre.
“Um, you’re right, sorry for holding you up,” Zhao Zi said, seeming to come around. With a hint of apology, she added generously, “Go handle your business. I’ll stay here with my junior and wait for other volunteers.”
Jiang Chuxie thought to herself, this had nothing to do with her to begin with—why did it sound like she was shirking duty? But since Zhao Zi stopped pestering her, she didn’t bother explaining further and left without looking back.
Early on, when she encountered situations like this, Jiang Chuxie didn’t realize they could turn into trouble. Out of a desire to help, she often unwittingly set off plot flags. With experience, she learned to dodge and avoid when possible. Though she couldn’t completely escape some hardcore events, “romantic encounter” type incidents had significantly decreased.
Cold, distant, but polite—this was the approach she’d figured out. Being too irritable could backfire and trigger events. After all, this was an ABO adult novel, full of “Hmph, interesting woman” tropes.
So, showing disinterest was crucial.
“Hmph, how interesting.”
Zhao Zi murmured unconsciously as she watched Jiang Chuxie’s retreating figure, but Gu Lingjun chimed in, “Senior, what’s interesting?”
“Huh, did I say something?” Zhao Zi flashed a smile, then thought for a moment. “That Beta just now was pretty interesting.”
“How so?”
Gu Lingjun looked delicate and gentle, her voice like an oriole’s—a flower clearly raised in a greenhouse. She seemed to just be following Zhao Zi’s lead with her question. Zhao Zi answered casually, “She was cold but didn’t seem annoyed, and her responses and explanations were polite.”
A Beta being unmoved by a female Omega might be due to orientation preferences—like preferring male Omegas or Alphas—which wasn’t unusual.
What caught Zhao Zi’s attention was Jiang Chuxie’s demeanor and… her appearance. She was curious about the eyes hidden behind those obviously non-prescription glasses.
“Senior, do you really think that senior was a Beta?”
Zhao Zi raised an eyebrow at Gu Lingjun. “You don’t think so?”
Gu Lingjun’s brows furrowed slightly, her face hesitant. “Um… I’m not sure.”
Jiang Chuxie returned to her dorm looking disheveled. As she opened the door, she saw her roommate Zhuang Qi holding a basketball, heading out.
“Chuxie, want to play ball?”
As Jiang Chuxie’s roommate, Zhuang Qi was naturally also a female Alpha. Unlike Jiang Chuxie, who tried to erase her presence, Zhuang Qi was a prominent figure in their department and even the university.
“No, I’ve got work later.”
Zhuang Qi knew her situation and didn’t press, just patting her shoulder with sympathy. “Alright, keep at it. But don’t overdo it. We’re Alphas—plenty of good jobs await us. No need to worry about paying off student loans.”
Jiang Chuxie smiled and nodded, but inwardly sighed heavily. In this world, Alphas indeed held significant privilege, far surpassing the male/Toolchains
