Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Jiang Chuxie’s suggestion caught Gu Lingjun by surprise, while Yu Wen completely froze. Ignoring their reactions, Jiang Chuxie stood up and said firmly, “Let’s go.”
Though surprised, Gu Lingjun had no intention of refusing Jiang Chuxie’s invitation.
“Okay.” She rose gracefully, smiling at Yu Wen. “Sorry, I’ll be stepping away for a bit.”
Jiang Chuxie frowned and said coldly, “We have things to do later and won’t be back. You’re free to do what you want, but we won’t keep you company.”
Her words were harsh, but Jiang Chuxie felt she had no choice. With a typical Omega, she might have been gentler, as a firm rejection would eventually fizzle out.
But Yu Wen was different. He was the most malicious villain in the story besides Jiang Chuxie, deeply tied to both her and Gu Lingjun. Despite not knowing his identity earlier, they’d already had too much contact. If she let him get closer to Gu Lingjun now, some of the story’s plot might actually unfold.
After saying this, Jiang Chuxie grabbed Gu Lingjun’s hand and left without looking back, leaving Yu Wen standing there, his face darkening.
Jiang Chuxie strode forward, as if afraid Yu Wen might follow, forcing Gu Lingjun to nearly jog to keep up.
After struggling to follow for a bit and confirming they were far enough from Yu Wen, Gu Lingjun called out to her.
“Senior, it’s okay. We’re far from him now.”
Jiang Chuxie stopped and turned to Gu Lingjun, her expression unusually serious.
“What did he say to you just now?”
“Well… he whispered it to me, probably not wanting others to know. Sorry, Senior, I can’t say.”
Gu Lingjun looked apologetic, making Jiang Chuxie sigh. She should’ve known Gu Lingjun’s character wouldn’t betray a friend.
“Fine, I won’t ask. But I have to warn you—Yu Wen isn’t as good as you think. No matter what he says, don’t fully trust him, and it’s best not to get too close to him.”
“Senior, are you saying he’s not trustworthy or worth befriending?”
Gu Lingjun tilted her head, a faint smile on her lips, her gaze pure as she looked at Jiang Chuxie.
“I know it sounds like I’m badmouthing him, but—”
Jiang Chuxie was racking her brain for a way to explain that would convince Gu Lingjun without revealing her own secret, but Gu Lingjun didn’t even ask for an explanation.
“I trust you.”
Jiang Chuxie blinked. “What?”
“I said, I trust you. If Senior doesn’t trust him, then I won’t either.”
“You… don’t need me to explain?”
“Do you want to explain?”
It was hard to explain! She’d thought for ages and couldn’t come up with a reasonable excuse, since all she knew were Yu Wen’s misdeeds after Gu Lingjun’s death.
She couldn’t exactly say, “That guy’s my mistress and will cruelly bully our daughter in the future,” could she?
Her brief hesitation was too obvious. Gu Lingjun smiled understandingly. “Even without an explanation, I trust you. After all, you’re the one who saved me, not him.”
Gu Lingjun’s trust touched Jiang Chuxie, but it also filled her with worry.
No wonder the original Jiang Chuxie had deceived her so easily—she was too naive! The original Jiang Chuxie had staged a hero-saving-beauty act to win her trust, and even in this new world line, Gu Lingjun still fell for it.
Sigh, it was too concerning.
“It’s great that you trust me… but don’t you think you’re being too hasty? Trusting people so easily—what if you get tricked?”
“Would Senior trick me?”
Gu Lingjun’s sincere gaze made Jiang Chuxie feel guilty.
“I… why would I trick you?”
“Exactly. So trusting you is obviously a wise decision, right?” Gu Lingjun sealed the deal. “Don’t worry, Senior, I’ll keep your advice in mind… Now, aren’t we going to dance?”
“Huh?”
Jiang Chuxie’s dance invitation was just an excuse. Forget not daring to dance with Gu Lingjun—she didn’t even know how!
In her past life, from a modest family, she’d spent all her time studying and working. In this life, it was worse. Busy with part-time jobs and worrying about food, she’d had no time to learn ballroom dancing. Knowing how to dance would be a miracle.
“Not dancing?”
Gu Lingjun looked disappointed and regretful. Jiang Chuxie froze for a moment before squeezing out, “I don’t know how to dance.”
A rare flush of embarrassment appeared on the usually stoic female Alpha’s face. Her pale skin betrayed her, redness spreading from her ears to her cheeks, even tinting the corners of her eyes.
Jiang Chuxie, already too delicate for an Alpha, looked shy and inexperienced with her icy demeanor softened by the blush.
Gu Lingjun noticed that the bittersweet, lingering scent of Jiang Chuxie’s pheromones seemed to soften, mingling with an intoxicating fragrance.
It’s well-known in biology that pheromones can subtly change with emotions, but the specifics vary by person, and the mechanism is too complex to fully unravel.
As a Biology Institute student, Gu Lingjun knew this but had never encountered someone whose pheromones shifted so dramatically with emotion.
Gu Lingjun took Jiang Chuxie’s hand, suppressing a smile. “Senior, I’ll teach you.”
Jiang Chuxie was utterly flustered, practically led by the nose.
“No need, it’s not like I’ll use it…”
Plus, with so many people around, messing up would be embarrassing.
Gu Lingjun seemed to read her mind, giving a sly smile and pulling her hand in the opposite direction of the dance floor.
“Let’s dance somewhere private.”
Jiang Chuxie felt something was off but couldn’t pinpoint what. By the time she realized Gu Lingjun had been steering the pace, they were already on the rooftop terrace.
“It’s just us here. Even if you mess up, no one will see.”
The air was chilly, but strangely, there was no wind. Jiang Chuxie faintly heard the auditorium’s melodic music nearing its end, soon transitioning to the next dance.
“Aren’t you cold?”
The moon cast a silvery glow over the terrace. Gu Lingjun let go of her hand, took a few steps forward, then turned back with her hands behind her, smiling brightly. “We’ll warm up once we start dancing.”
Under the moonlight, the delicate Omega girl’s frail figure seemed draped in gossamer, glowing softly, beautiful and mysterious like Selene, the moon goddess.
Jiang Chuxie knew it must be that inexplicable force at work, making her thoughts wander, making her unable to look away.
But if this was the last time, wasn’t it fine to stop resisting?
“Senior, since we’re here, dance with me just once.”
Gu Lingjun extended her hand, and after a brief hesitation, Jiang Chuxie gave in, meeting her expectation.
“Just tonight.”
Ugh, that sounded way too dramatic, but she needed to think this way to convince herself. After struggling so long and building so many mental barriers, failing here would be too much.
Gu Lingjun briefly explained the standard hold and posture, teaching the steps and dance lines as they went. Though Jiang Chuxie had never danced ballroom, she had a tall, coordinated frame and quick understanding. With Gu Lingjun’s patient guidance, she soon managed the simplest steps.
They kept a polite distance, avoiding overly intimate contact, but this was still the closest Jiang Chuxie had been to Gu Lingjun. By moonlight, she could clearly see every expression—Gu Lingjun’s lowered eyelids, her fluttering lashes like butterfly wings, her high nose casting a sharp shadow, her lips as glossy as cherries… and the serene joy on a face too beautiful for words to capture.
So close, she inhaled Gu Lingjun’s scent, her pheromones from the gland under her neck lingering at Jiang Chuxie’s nose, blending with the crisp air and enchanting moonlight into an intoxicating aroma.
One song, two, three—Jiang Chuxie grew more skilled and more entranced. They’d agreed on one dance, but neither suggested stopping. As long as the music played, their waltz seemed endless.
Even Jiang Chuxie, with her stamina, began to feel warm. Gu Lingjun’s forehead glistened with a thin layer of sweat. When the song ended, Gu Lingjun was panting softly. Jiang Chuxie draped her jacket over her, a sudden pang of melancholy rising in her heart.
“Senior, you learned so fast.”
Wrapped again in Jiang Chuxie’s scent, Gu Lingjun unconsciously took a deep breath.
The rich, bittersweet aroma was unforgettable.
Perhaps her response to Yu Wen was her truest feeling. Beyond probing Jiang Chuxie’s influence on her, she genuinely felt something for her—not just friendship, but something deeper.
But Jiang Chuxie seemed to have no such intentions.
“You taught well.”
Jiang Chuxie looked up at the silver moon, her demeanor unusually soft. From Gu Lingjun’s angle, her profile looked so forlorn.
“Senior, can we really not be friends?”
Gu Lingjun felt unwilling. She could see Jiang Chuxie treated her differently from Yu Wen. So why refuse even friendship?
Tonight, Jiang Chuxie’s walls seemed less impregnable. Thinking this might be their last interaction, her defenses wavered.
“Gu Lingjun, getting involved with me won’t lead to anything good.”
“Why do you think that?”
Because I’ve read the script.
Jiang Chuxie looked down at Gu Lingjun, sighing. “Lessons learned.”
“So you keep everyone at a distance because you think getting too close brings bad things?”
Jiang Chuxie’s silver-rimmed glasses glinted coldly in the moonlight. She gazed at Gu Lingjun, her voice low. “No, only you.”
