Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 36
Chapter 36
“Heh, what kind of answer do you want to hear?”
The smile on the Alpha’s face made Gu Lingjun extremely uncomfortable. After being put in his place by Jiang Chuxie before, this guy hadn’t dared to show his face around her for a long time. But now, with Dean Xu backing him up, he was getting cocky again.
Gu Lingjun couldn’t be bothered with him. She quickly packed up her laptop and stood up. “Whatever answer you have, I’m not interested. Since you need the meeting room, I’ll leave.”
“Hey, wait—” The Alpha stepped forward, blocking her path. “Junior, no need to rush off, right? Don’t you think we should have a proper talk?”
Confronting an Alpha head-on wasn’t wise. Gu Lingjun had to suppress her disgust and speak in a calmer tone. “Talk about what? I don’t think there’s anything to discuss between us.”
“Heh, not even pretending in front of me anymore?” The Alpha sneered, lowering his voice as if sharing a secret. “I heard from Dean Xu why Zhao Gang dropped out… and about your true colors.”
He said “true colors” instead of “identity,” so it seemed Dean Xu hadn’t told him about the Gu family’s background. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have the guts to come bother her again.
It was unclear whether Dean Xu was trying to “use someone else to teach her a lesson” or if this was just an “unintentional slip.”
“If you’re talking about Zhao Gang going to jail, I can only say he brought it on himself.”
Gu Lingjun brushed him off while looking for a chance to escape. They were separated by just a table, but he was blocking her path, and the meeting room door was quite a distance away. Slipping past him unnoticed was nearly impossible.
But if she forced her way out, she was afraid this Alpha might lose it and get physical. From what she knew, only the Life Sciences Institute was holding a meeting in this building today. She wasn’t sure if anyone would hear her if she called for help.
“If you hadn’t kept stringing Zhao Gang along, would he have resorted to desperate measures? He’s an Alpha—what kind of Omega couldn’t he have? Did he really need you? And you, turning around and sending him to jail. I used to think you were some delicate little flower. You and Zhao Zi are both scheming, vicious Omegas.”
Faced with the Alpha unloading his grievances about her and Zhao Zi, Gu Lingjun couldn’t help but frown in disgust.
He must have been really upset since Zhao Zi became student council president, huh?
“Are you done? Can I leave now?”
Gu Lingjun didn’t want to waste any more time with him and tried to slip around the other side of the table.
“Ha, you think you can just leave?” The Alpha grabbed her wrist, smirking sleazily. “You didn’t think I came here just to talk, did you?”
“Let go of me!”
Gu Lingjun tried to struggle, but an Omega’s strength was no match for an Alpha’s. No matter how she pried at his fingers, he didn’t budge.
“Gu Lingjun, don’t push your luck. You rejected my invitation before, found some random Alpha to humiliate me, and made me lose face. You think I’d just let that go?”
“This is a school! What do you think you’re doing?”
Gu Lingjun was genuinely afraid this Alpha was stupid enough to try something here. Even a moment’s thought would tell anyone the risks of such actions—oh, she forgot, some Alphas were so dumb it was like they didn’t even have a brainstem.
“What am I doing? I’m going to show you that Alphas aren’t toys for you to play with. Be good and listen to me. Once I become student council president, your life in the council will be much easier. Otherwise, hmph, you’ll see…”
Before he could finish his threat, Gu Lingjun suddenly cried out in panic.
“No, let me go! Help—”
The Alpha had no sense of danger. Seeing her suddenly show vulnerability, he was smug.
“Go ahead and scream. There’s no one else on this floor. Even if you scream your throat raw—”
Damn it!
Jiang Chuxie burst in like a leopard, grabbing his head and slamming him to the ground. The line she overheard was one of those clichéd villain lines she’d heard countless times in TV dramas from her past life, so overused it couldn’t get any more trite.
“Senior!”
Gu Lingjun’s voice, filled with the joy of surviving a crisis, rang out. Jiang Chuxie thought about what might have happened if she hadn’t decided on a whim to come check on her. Furious, she raised her fist and landed two punches on the Alpha’s face.
Caught off guard by this sudden turn of events, the Alpha was already dazed from the fall. Before he could process what was happening, the punches left him seeing stars.
“Scream your throat raw, huh? Scream your throat raw!”
Jiang Chuxie was truly pissed. The incidents with Dean Xu and the student council had already put her in a bad mood. She thought seeing Gu Lingjun might cheer her up, but she hadn’t expected to walk into this scene.
The male Alpha, beaten into a pig’s head under Jiang Chuxie’s hold, wailed in pain but had no ability to fight back.
Seeing Jiang Chuxie had done enough and worried she might cause serious injury and get into legal trouble, Gu Lingjun quickly grabbed her hand. “Senior, stop, stop!”
Jiang Chuxie hit hard but was careful not to target vital areas. After venting, she felt a bit better and stopped when Gu Lingjun pulled her back.
“Are you okay?”
She let the Alpha writhe on the ground and carefully checked Gu Lingjun’s appearance. Seeing her clothes were intact, she relaxed slightly.
Gu Lingjun gently held her wrist and smiled calmly. “I’m fine.”
Jiang Chuxie could tell from her expression that she was lying. She grabbed her hand. “Let me see.”
“Senior, it’s not…”
Gu Lingjun tried to pull her arm back, but Jiang Chuxie ignored her, firmly pulling away the hand covering her wrist.
A bright red handprint marked Gu Lingjun’s wrist—obviously the Alpha’s doing. The anger Jiang Chuxie had just suppressed flared up again, and she glared viciously at the male Alpha.
The Alpha had taken the chance to scramble up from the ground. Still shaken from the beating, he didn’t dare fight back and instead retreated several steps.
“Don’t come any closer! I’ll call for help!”
Did this Alpha even understand the situation?
Jiang Chuxie stared at him, her face full of disgust.
She’d been in this world for years and had seen all sorts of troublesome Alphas. She’d come to a conclusion.
Of course, there were normal Alphas like Zhuang Qi and Zhang Luping, but the ones she encountered most were weirdos like Dean Xu and Zhao Gang. This Alpha in front of her was, in her eyes, a weirdo among weirdos, yet not uncommon in this world.
Alphas often had a sense of superiority over other genders, but among fellow Alphas, they were filled with competitive drive.
However, this competitive drive wasn’t unbreakable, especially when the gap in strength was obvious. In fact, because Alphas were more driven by instinct, they were quicker to yield when faced with a clear power disparity.
This was the so-called “punching down on the weak, groveling to the strong.”
Jiang Chuxie particularly despised this kind of person!
“Get lost!”
She didn’t want to resort to violence! But she was so angry today that she couldn’t hold back.
“You—you’ll see!” The Alpha, no longer swaggering as he had with an Omega, clutched his swollen face and blustered weakly. “You think this Omega is some pure innocent? She’s got me… got us all fooled! She’s just using you. Why else would she bring another Alpha to the welcome event? No matter how tough you are, you’re just a Beta. You think she really cares about you?”
Jiang Chuxie rolled her eyes so hard they nearly reached the sky. This guy had been beaten to a pulp and still hadn’t recognized her. Did he think she was as stupid as him, falling for his attempt to sow discord?
“Sorry,” Jiang Chuxie took off her glasses, her narrow eyes squinting slightly, her gaze carrying a dangerous glint. “I was the one who put you in your place at the welcome event. Need me to remind you how to behave?”
The Alpha’s eyes widened, and then… he turned and bolted for the door, shouting, “Psycho!”
Jiang Chuxie felt reluctant to let him off so easily, but violence was a last resort, and she couldn’t think of a good way to punish him to ensure he wouldn’t harass Gu Lingjun again.
“Pfft!”
Gu Lingjun couldn’t help but laugh unkindly at his pathetic escape.
To her, this guy was like a clown, but the fact that this clown had a better chance than the respected Zhao Zi to become student council president was so absurd it made her feel awful.
She didn’t want Jiang Chuxie fighting for her, but honestly, watching her beat up that jerk felt pretty great.
“You’re still laughing.” Jiang Chuxie sighed helplessly. “Do you know how dangerous that was? If I hadn’t seen your text or wasn’t nearby, you could’ve—”
“I know,” Gu Lingjun took Jiang Chuxie’s hand, saying sincerely, “So thank you, Senior.”
Jiang Chuxie realized her words sounded a bit like she was fishing for praise and felt embarrassed.
“Uh, it’s… it’s nothing. I just couldn’t stand by. Just a small thing.”
Gu Lingjun smiled softly at her. “Every time you do a ‘small thing,’ it helps me a ton.”
Jiang Chuxie’s heart started pounding uncontrollably again. Even fighting hadn’t made her heart race this fast.
She wanted to pull her hand back, but for some reason, her body wouldn’t listen.
“Are you done with your work? Should we get that wrist checked at the infirmary?”
“Will you come with me, Senior?”
How could she not?
After this, Jiang Chuxie was a bit reluctant to let Gu Lingjun go anywhere alone. She didn’t know how Gu Lingjun had stayed safe before meeting her, but given how often these incidents happened, it was really worrying!
“Mm.”
Jiang Chuxie casually stuffed her glasses into her pocket, seemingly not planning to wear them again. Gu Lingjun asked curiously, “Senior, you’re… not wearing them anymore?”
“Nah, no need.”
After this Alpha’s three interactions with her, Jiang Chuxie finally understood what Zhuang Qi had meant.
His attitude toward her when he thought she was a Beta versus when he knew she was an Alpha was completely different. If being an Alpha could bring more convenience than trouble, she didn’t mind using it.
Her goal now wasn’t to avoid attracting other Omegas but to maintain her relationship with Gu Lingjun while helping her avoid the messy plots of an ABO smut novel.
Before meeting Gu Lingjun, Jiang Chuxie’s life was filled with minor incidents every three days and major ones every five. But after meeting her, those unrelated to the main plot started to dwindle rapidly.
Especially as she got closer to Gu Lingjun, almost every incident around her was tied to her, including the Yuwen situation.
That meant she should focus on dealing with Gu Lingjun’s matters. Not wearing glasses and releasing her pheromones would definitely be more convenient than hiding her identity.
Gu Lingjun seemed happy with her decision, though her reasoning was slightly off.
“Senior, is it so you can fight more easily?”
Looking at her sparkling eyes, Jiang Chuxie wondered if she’d been too violent in front of her.
“No…”
If she could become a big shot soon, she wouldn’t need to rely on violence to solve problems!
“Whatever the reason, I’m happy that Senior is willing to show her face.”
As they chatted, the two headed to the infirmary to buy a bottle of bruise remedy. Jiang Chuxie initially thought applying the remedy for Gu Lingjun might be too intimate, but when she saw Gu Lingjun struggling to even open the bottle, she took it upon herself to help.
“Thank you, Senior.”
Gu Lingjun’s slender wrists were so delicate that both together weren’t as thick as Jiang Chuxie’s hand. While applying the remedy, Jiang Chuxie was extremely careful, afraid she might accidentally break something.
Since becoming an Alpha, her physique and strength were far beyond those of the shut-in girl from her past life. Omegas were generally delicate, and Gu Lingjun seemed especially fragile. Every time Jiang Chuxie touched her, she worried about breaking her.
“You’ve already said thank you so many times.”
Jiang Chuxie kept her head down, meticulously rubbing the remedy into Gu Lingjun’s wrist, her expression utterly serious.
Gu Lingjun smiled as she watched her focused demeanor. “What should I do? It feels like…”
Hm?
What would happen if this continued?
Jiang Chuxie looked up at Gu Lingjun’s face, her mind in chaos, like a lively fish flopping around in her head.
Could it be… could her heroic rescue have made Gu Lingjun fall for her? If this kept up, would Gu Lingjun start liking her?
But no, Gu Lingjun, loving her wouldn’t lead anywhere!
“If this keeps up, it feels like no matter how many times I say thank you, I’ll never repay your kindness, and I’ll just owe you more and more.”
Oh… so that’s what she meant.
Jiang Chuxie couldn’t suppress a wave of disappointment in her heart.
“It’s not about owing favors…”
Gu Lingjun turned her hand to hold Jiang Chuxie’s, happily saying, “So, Senior, you already see me as a friend, right?”
Jiang Chuxie hesitated for a moment before nodding. “If it’s just as friends, I think so.”
Her hand was held again.
She knew Gu Lingjun was so casual with physical contact because she saw her as a close friend, but this tactile stimulation—more direct than sight, smell, or sound—was overwhelming, shaking her to the core.
She had been a regular girl before, and even now, this body was closer to female. She still felt her inner self leaned feminine, so why did Gu Lingjun’s touch feel so… extraordinary?
Were Omega hands that soft? Were Omega palms that warm? Was this what it felt like to be enveloped by an Omega’s hands?
Jiang Chuxie wasn’t unfamiliar with desire triggered by Omegas, but that was clearly just a physiological reaction to pheromones. Yet today, just a touch from Gu Lingjun’s hand sent her heart racing uncontrollably.
This was bad. Was her mind really starting to be assimilated by this Alpha body?
In her past life, she was an upright—though she read smut—pure—though she read smut—decent—though she read smut—youth. Why were her thoughts becoming so filthy now?
“I’m relieved,” Gu Lingjun said, showing a reassured expression after Jiang Chuxie’s confirmation. “I was worried you’d start distancing yourself from me again.”
“I won’t…”
Jiang Chuxie turned her face away, a bit embarrassed. She’d even taken off her glasses—she was going to stick to her resolve this time.
Over the past six years, for various reasons—subjective or objective, active or passive—she’d saved quite a few Omegas. But thinking about it, shouldn’t the one she needed to save most be Gu Lingjun?
Though the tragic fate Gu Lingjun faced in the original story wasn’t her fault after transmigrating, after everything they’d been through, she couldn’t stand by and watch this “friend” repeat a tragic destiny.
She’d initially wanted to avoid trouble, thinking that cutting ties with Gu Lingjun would be best for both of them. But she later realized that even without her involvement, Gu Lingjun kept encountering trash Alphas and unfair situations.
As for herself, even avoiding Gu Lingjun didn’t spare her from trouble, like with Yuwen. Rather than getting entangled with the original story’s “mistress,” she’d rather build a good relationship with Gu Lingjun.
“By the way, Senior, I haven’t asked—why were you at the activity building? I only sent the text a little while ago. Were you handling something?”
If Jiang Chuxie had gone there after getting the text, she wouldn’t have made it in time. She must’ve already been near the activity building to have arrived so quickly to save her.
“Yeah, I was talking with Chen Yue about some things.”
Gu Lingjun, as someone involved in the incident and a member of the institute’s student council, had learned about the investigation results through Zhao Zi.
“I heard Yuwen’s back at school.”
“Yeah.” Hearing Gu Lingjun mention Yuwen gave Jiang Chuxie an inexplicable sense of guilt. “Chen Yue told me.”
Gu Lingjun observed her expression and asked softly, “Is it really okay not to let him know you helped him? He even came to thank me and Zhao Zi.”
“It’s fine, absolutely fine!” Jiang Chuxie desperately wanted to keep Yuwen as far from her as possible in Gu Lingjun’s eyes. “If he found out, I’d be the one in trouble!”
Gu Lingjun smiled with pursed lips. “I heard Yuwen’s pretty popular in the institute. If he knew you felt this way, he’d be heartbroken.”
“What’s his heartbreak got to do with me?” Jiang Chuxie felt the need to warn Gu Lingjun again. “And you, don’t get too close to him. Trouble!”
Gu Lingjun nodded obediently. “I understand.”
But her calm demeanor made it seem like she didn’t understand at all.
“Was your Life Sciences Institute meeting today about holding some event?”
She didn’t want to keep harping on Yuwen with Gu Lingjun. Taking action was more effective than verbal warnings.
She’d decided to evolve from a background villain to a dark knight, nipping any danger to Gu Lingjun in the bud!
“No…”
Gu Lingjun had texted Jiang Chuxie because she wanted to discuss this matter. Her frustrations might not be understood by many Omegas, but for some reason, she felt Jiang Chuxie would agree with her perspective.
“That dean is such a jerk!” Sure enough, after hearing her out, Jiang Chuxie’s face was full of righteous indignation. Having completely dropped her pretense in front of Gu Lingjun, there wasn’t a trace of coldness left in her. “He dumps all the troublesome work on Zhao Zi, then turns around and wants a ‘more capable’ Alpha to take the president’s role? Where was he earlier?”
Jiang Chuxie knew Dean Xu was an Alpha chauvinist, but she hadn’t realized he was so petty that he’d fuss over a student council presidency, refusing to let an Omega hold the position even for one term.
Those in power really spared no effort to suppress anyone different.
Gu Lingjun looked worried. “Zhao Zi seems pretty down. Some of us fought for a voting election, but most students in the institute probably think it’s only natural for an Alpha to be president. The dean even used Omega heat cycles as an excuse, saying Omegas are inherently flawed and unfit for leadership roles.”
“Pfft, why doesn’t he say Alphas are inherently flawed because they can’t bear children?”
Jiang Chuxie didn’t notice she’d just insulted herself, but she wasn’t wrong. Omegas, who conceived easily, aside, almost all Betas could get pregnant too, just with varying degrees of difficulty.
Only Alphas were physically incapable of bearing children.
“Using physical differences as an argument is either stupid or malicious. As the dean of the Life Sciences Institute, I’d say he’s both—unfit to be a teacher or even a decent person!”
This was exactly the response Gu Lingjun wanted, the support she’d hoped for. Coming from an Alpha, it felt especially valuable.
“Senior, do you think we should fight back?”
Gu Lingjun was asking for both this election and for Omegas as a whole.
“Of course! How can we let Dean Xu have his way?”
Before, Jiang Chuxie had mostly stayed out of things, not wanting to stir trouble or draw attention.
But this time, after everything that had happened and faced with Gu Lingjun’s tearful question, she suddenly felt a surge of bold determination.
It was time someone showed the world how rotten some of its beliefs were!
