Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Jiang Chuxie prepared the coffee, and luckily, the waiter returned from lunch just in time. He delivered the coffee to the two customers, sparing Jiang Chuxie from having to interact again with the Omega named Lingjun. But when the supposed bitter original partner she was trying to avoid suddenly appeared in front of her, Jiang Chuxie couldn’t help but take notice of her.
The Alpha and Omega pair sat in a secluded corner, out of direct sight from the cashier counter. For safety, cameras were installed in the shop’s corners, one of which happened to capture the Alpha’s position. The monitor was near the cashier, and Jiang Chuxie could see it by turning around.
Though she knew it was wrong, Jiang Chuxie couldn’t resist sneaking glances at the screen. The footage mostly showed the male Alpha’s figure. She couldn’t hear their conversation, but his body language suggested he was talking nonstop.
Jiang Chuxie seriously doubted whether the Omega had a chance to get a word in, as the Alpha barely paused.
They stayed for about an hour, and everything seemed normal, so Jiang Chuxie gradually stopped paying attention. That is, until the Alpha came to the counter to order two more coffees.
The cashier, who had an upset stomach, took the afternoon off to rest, leaving only Jiang Chuxie and one other employee in the shop. While the other worker delivered the coffee, she had to keep an eye on the counter. As the waiter brought the coffee to the pair, the young Omega girl happened to pass by the counter.
Jiang Chuxie didn’t have time to look away, and their eyes met unexpectedly.
The girl had clear, innocent, yet vaguely alluring eyes, like a radiant sunrise slowly emerging through misty vapors or a profound sunset sinking into a cascade of rosy clouds. They were too captivating to stare at, yet impossible not to yearn for. No words of praise could fully capture her beauty, and if there were any, they’d likely take a thousand words to describe—she wouldn’t say that!
Jiang Chuxie was now absolutely, completely, utterly certain that this flag was insanely intense, far beyond anything she’d encountered before. This must be the so-called forced love, some power deliberately trying to make her feel smitten.
Otherwise, how could she, after meeting this person only twice, inexplicably think such things?
And even if her mind conjured up this messy pile of nonsense, her heartbeat hadn’t…
The Omega seemed shy from the unexpected eye contact, her cheeks slightly flushed. In a fluster, she nodded at Jiang Chuxie before hurrying toward the restroom.
Jiang Chuxie touched her chest—as an Alpha, she had a decently broad chest, but even so, her palm felt the rapid beating in her ribcage.
Damn it!
If it was just silly praise popping into her head, she could chant Buddhist scriptures to brush it off. But if it affected her hormone levels, that was trickier.
Because, in the end, weren’t emotions and love just the result of hormones?
Jiang Chuxie’s gaze dropped, instinctively glancing at the male Alpha on the screen.
This guy, who seemed arrogant and full of Alpha bad habits, please do something quick to tame this enchanting creature!
As if answering Jiang Chuxie’s prayer, the male Alpha on the monitor sneakily looked around after the waiter left, then pulled a small bottle from his jacket pocket.
Jiang Chuxie’s expression turned grim instantly.
The male Alpha, likely unaware of the coffee shop’s cameras, didn’t notice the one above him and cautiously poured white powder from the bottle into the Omega’s cup.
Jiang Chuxie furrowed her brows tightly—she wasn’t naive enough to think this was a thoughtful gesture. Was he seriously adding sugar to the Omega’s coffee while she was away?
This wasn’t her first time encountering something like this. Though this world, or at least the country she was in, seemed stable, prosperous, and law-abiding, whether due to the ABO erotica setting or her own constitution, Jiang Chuxie had already witnessed three similar incidents.
In any country in this world, Omegas were a scarce resource. To win their favor, some Alphas, and even Betas, resorted to risky, despicable tactics.
Because an Alpha’s marking of an Omega was irreversible, most Omegas could only swallow their pride and accept reality once it happened.
Clearly, this Alpha was no gentleman, and the Omega, now in the restroom, was oblivious to the fate awaiting her.
Jiang Chuxie’s first instinct was to tell the Omega and help her call the police. But as she lifted her foot, reason stopped her.
Often, she tried not to get too involved with this world or its people. Unfortunately, before coming here, she wasn’t a cold person, which led her to cross boundaries at times.
For example, bringing her previous world’s values here; or failing to fully embrace her Alpha identity; or, despite wanting to avoid entanglement with Omegas, being unable to ignore those being harmed, even empathizing with them too much.
In truth, none of this was necessary, was it?
This world was different from the one she’d lived in before—different in development, values, even human biology. She couldn’t change it. All she could do was make her life more comfortable. Standing by, detached from this world and its people, would make things easier.
Besides… this Omega was likely Gu Lingjun, the very person she desperately wanted to avoid. If she got involved now out of a sense of justice, wouldn’t all her efforts over the past few years be for nothing?
As Jiang Chuxie hesitated, the Omega returned from the restroom. Their eyes met again, both startled. The Omega, perhaps because she’d just come from the restroom, looked even more flushed than before. In that moment, Jiang Chuxie waged an intense internal battle.
If this was indeed Gu Lingjun, today’s events might be the result of her years of effort. Their fates had already diverged, but would Gu Lingjun’s outcome here be worse than marrying Jiang Chuxie?
Probably not.
After all, even arrogant Alphas rarely killed their Omega partners. Plus, this was an erotica novel. Maybe from this seemingly abnormal start, something called “true love” could emerge.
Just like their daughter Jiang Weizao and her six partners.
Jiang Chuxie averted her gaze, trying to convince herself. After meeting her eyes, the Omega looked like she wanted to say something but ultimately stayed silent when Jiang Chuxie looked away, heading back to her seat.
Soon, Jiang Chuxie could no longer see the Omega, but the monitor at the counter was still running. She instinctively glanced at it, seeing the Omega slowly return to her seat, the Alpha’s enthusiastic yet fake smile, the Omega sitting with her back to the camera, and her hand reaching for the coffee cup…
Jiang Chuxie clenched her teeth. The moment she saw the Omega lift the cup, she could no longer hold back. Throwing down the towel she’d been gripping, she rushed out from behind the counter.
“Wait, Chuxie, what are you doing?”
A colleague, just back, stumbled as Jiang Chuxie barreled past, shouting in surprise.
“I saw a customer who needs help. I’ll be right back.”
Though she desperately wanted to avoid entanglement with this Omega—especially if she was Gu Lingjun—Jiang Chuxie couldn’t ignore such an obvious crime.
To hell with this erotica world, to hell with standing by coldly, to hell with true love born from crime. Even if this Omega was Gu Lingjun, even if marrying the original Jiang Chuxie would’ve led to a worse life, that didn’t mean enduring this harm was any better.
Crime was crime, even in this constructed R18 world with its functioning laws.
When she first arrived, Jiang Chuxie was deeply confused, unable to grasp this world’s essence, her role in it, or the nature of the people around her.
Unable to resolve this confusion, she chose not to dwell on it and just be herself.
But the longer she lived here, the less she could see those around her as mere book characters. To her, they were living people, and aside from the novel’s explicit content, most of normal life here wasn’t much different from her previous world.
She read ABO erotica because she knew it was fictional, meant to stay in the realm of fantasy. Now, living in this world, it was her reality. In this world—at least in the country she was in—drugging an Omega, even if unsuccessful, was a serious crime.
She might not be able to change others or this world, but she shouldn’t let it change her—or let the idea that this was an ABO erotica world make her dismiss illegal acts as normal.
If she did, how would she be any different from the original Jiang Chuxie?
