Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 62
Chapter 62
Faced with Gu Lingjun’s increasingly bold teasing, Jiang Chuxie could only bray like a little donkey lured by a carrot, with no real way to respond.
Miss Gu seemed to find joy in it, delighting in new ways to rile her up, more like a cunning little devil than an angel.
After a thorough hospital checkup, Gu Lingjun shared the news of her pregnancy and their plan to get a marriage certificate with her parents.
“What’s wrong?” Gu Lian, seeing her husband suddenly stand while texting their daughter, asked nervously. “Did something happen to Lingjun?”
They rarely had a holiday, but with their daughter “eloping,” they couldn’t enjoy family time, making the break a bit dreary.
Mu Qing stared at the phone’s small screen, looking incredulous. Gu Lian, growing anxious, leaned over to see.
“What did Lingjun say? Did Jiang Chuxie bully her?”
“Lingjun’s pregnant.”
Gu Lian looked at Mu Qing, confused, as if she didn’t grasp the words. Mu Qing finally snapped out of it, explaining, “It happened that time. The contraceptive Lingjun took didn’t work.”
“W-What?”
Gu Lian, perhaps unwilling to accept it, still looked puzzled.
Mu Qing smacked her arm in frustration. “Stop saying ‘what’! You’re about to be a grandmother!”
Gu Lian gasped sharply, shouting, “That little punk! Is this how she proves herself? Doesn’t Lingjun know what pregnancy means for an Omega?”
“Tch, it happened back then. Yelling now’s useless. They just found out themselves, so quit shouting!”
Mu Qing rubbed her head, slowly processing, her heart a mix of emotions.
As a Beta, she’d worked herself to the bone to conceive Gu Lingjun, finally earning the Gu family’s approval. To say she had no resentment would be a lie. Now, thinking her daughter faced a similar fate, anger surged within her.
“What do they say? Are they keeping it?”
“Yeah, Lingjun wants to get the marriage certificate.”
Gu Lian shot to her feet. “No way. We need to go to B City to see Lingjun now.”
“What are you planning?”
“What? I—”
Gu Lian wanted to say she’d bring Lingjun home, but on second thought, what good would that do? The Gu family could easily raise a child. She hadn’t forced the couple apart before, and they weren’t fighting now. Interfering would be pointless.
“I-I can’t just check if Lingjun’s doing okay?”
“If she’s doing well, will you agree to their relationship and stop making things hard?”
“Well—”
They’d agreed to test Jiang Chuxie. If they caved just because of the pregnancy, it’d feel too abrupt. If Jiang Chuxie had flaws, they wouldn’t surface so soon. Compromising now would let her know their limits.
“So we’re not going to see Lingjun?”
Her daughter pregnant without her knowledge, Gu Lian felt ants crawling in her heart. She was torn—partly expectant, partly worried, but certain she needed to confirm Lingjun’s well-being.
“If you can accept compromising like this, we’ll fly to B City right now. See Lingjun however you want, meet our son-in-law and granddaughter, everyone’s happy. But if you’re not ready to accept them, don’t stir things up and regret it later. Lingjun’s an adult. Whether her future’s good or her choices are right doesn’t need our judgment. Stop acting like it’s all for her when it’s for you and the Gu family!”
Mu Qing also wanted to see her daughter, but she knew going now, in this state, would only spark conflict.
Gu Lian stared at her husband, baffled. “Qingqing, why are you so angry?”
Mu Qing and Gu Lian had been together for over twenty years, and she’d always found her great. But lately, she’d been so irritating.
“Can’t I be mad at myself? I’m mad I let our daughter suffer like I did, mad I have no say in your Gu family… Forget it, you wouldn’t get it.”
Mu Qing ignored her, leaving the living room. Gu Lian quickly turned off the TV and chased after her.
“Qingqing, Qingqing…”
“You’re really set on continuing school this semester?”
With the new term approaching, Gu Lingjun hadn’t applied for a leave of absence.
“Yeah, the doctor said my pregnancy is stable. I checked the timing—this semester’s in a safer mid-pregnancy phase, so attending classes is fine.”
“Taking a year off wouldn’t hurt. Staying back a year won’t delay much.”
“Hmm, I don’t plan to take leave in the second half either. I’ll take a few months off, and once I recover, I can finish my credits.”
After her full checkup, Gu Lingjun planned everything, realizing the baby’s timing was perfect. The riskiest months fell during holidays, and with the birth around September, the second year’s first semester would just be starting, making it easy to catch up.
“You’re pushing too hard. It’s not necessary. Resting during pregnancy is better to avoid complications…”
Gu Lingjun said轻松ly, “Did you forget? I study biomedical sciences. I know this stuff. Omega pregnancies are much easier than Beta ones. I can’t just lie at home doing nothing, right? It’s like moderate exercise, just skipping PE.”
Jiang Chuxie sighed softly. “Fine, we’ll try your plan, but if I see you straining, I’ll stop you.”
“Got it, don’t be so nervous, new mom.”
Jiang Chuxie, the non-pregnant one, was a hundred times more anxious than Gu Lingjun, often making her laugh.
“You’re too carefree… Let’s find time to buy a car. It’ll be handy for getting around.”
“You have a driver’s license?”
“Yeah, I got it the summer before college. Haven’t driven in years, but I should pick it up quickly with practice.”
Gu Lingjun nodded, considering. “A car would be useful. We’ll need to go to the hospital often, and you’ve got the company. It’ll be convenient.”
“Right, it’ll make commuting to school easier too. Zhuang Qi’s planning to drive too.”
Though they hadn’t gotten their marriage certificate yet, they’d applied to live off-campus. Zhuang Qi, hearing this, decided against dorms too, renting a place in the building next to theirs, planning to move in next month.
Zhao Zi, however, stayed in the dorms. Though she and Zhuang Qi had met each other’s parents over the break, practically engaged, Zhao’s grandfather was conservative, so they didn’t move in together for caution’s sake.
Plus, Zhao Zi was busy applying for internships and managing student council duties, making dorm life more practical.
“Oh, Dad replied.”
Gu Lingjun had been a bit uneasy sending the pregnancy news to Mu Qing. But seeing her reply, a bright smile spread across her face.
“What did Uncle say?”
Gu Lingjun’s almond eyes sparkled as she handed the phone to Jiang Chuxie, who softly read the message aloud.
“Dad will always support you.”
Those eight simple words lifted both Gu Lingjun and Jiang Chuxie’s spirits. Compared to Gu Lian, Mu Qing had always been less extreme. Especially after Gu Lingjun left home, messaging her daily, Mu Qing’s stance had softened, often checking in warmly.
With Mu Qing’s words, Gu Lingjun and Jiang Chuxie could move forward with their plans.
“I’ve asked a lawyer to draft a prenup. We’ve booked a notarization date. Let’s sign it soon.”
“Chuxie, you don’t have to go this far.”
“No, I do.” Jiang Chuxie hugged Gu Lingjun’s shoulders, sighing softly. “Even if it’s just to win your mom’s approval, I have to. Not just this—whatever she asks, I’ll do my best to meet.”
Compared to her, the Gu family was a bigger shield. With their protection, Gu Lingjun would be safer.
Though Jiang Chuxie had been tracking the Lianping Association’s new online hideouts through subtle clues, they’d learned their lesson, scattering like wary rabbits, making her surveillance difficult.
“Chuxie, I’m sorry you’re going through this.”
“You love me, so I’ve got nothing to complain about. You’re the one who’s faced so much with me.”
Gu Lingjun looked up, feigning confusion. “When have I suffered? I don’t know about that. I don’t cook, we split chores, and you’ve gotten romantic. Where’s the suffering?”
Jiang Chuxie’s lips curved. “Sounds like you had issues with my old attitude, singling out my new romantic side.”
“No issues, but I’m not the only one who says you’re clueless about romance.”
“You said you liked that I’m clueless with others.”
“With others, sure, I love it. But with me…” Gu Lingjun kissed her jaw. “I’d like you even more if you’re a bit more savvy.”
“Savvy like this?”
Jiang Chuxie dipped her head, pecking the lips Gu Lingjun offered. Caught off guard, Gu Lingjun huffed, lightly punching her.
“You’re getting too good at this.”
Jiang Chuxie smirked proudly. “We’re about to get married. I’ve got to up my game, or you’ll keep calling me clueless.”
Speaking of marriage, Gu Lingjun recalled something, covering her mouth with a laugh. “Speaking of, back then… you probably don’t remember, but you called me your wife. I thought, wow, the senior who’s always so cold secretly likes me that much, already seeing me as her wife.”
Jiang Chuxie’s brow twitched slightly. “I… when did I say that?”
“At the resort… in the bathroom…” Gu Lingjun hesitated, watching Jiang Chuxie’s expression as she spoke slowly. “You weren’t clear-headed, but you still recognized me, and said… said…”
Jiang Chuxie’s throat bobbed as she pulled Gu Lingjun tightly into her arms.
“Yes, Lingjun, I’ve long seen you as my wife.”
And this time, no matter what, I’ll protect you.
