Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 71
Chapter 71
Mu Qing’s call interrupted their intimate moment. As Gu Lingjun answered, her face grew increasingly surprised. Jiang Chuxie looked at her curiously for an explanation, but Gu Lingjun only responded to the call while getting off her.
“Okay… I understand… Yeah, Chuxie and I will come pick you up now…”
“Is your dad here?”
“Yeah, he says he’s at the neighborhood entrance, but the security guard won’t let him in.”
Though their private time was cut short, with her father-in-law arriving, Jiang Chuxie didn’t dare delay.
“Let’s hurry and go get him.”
They rushed to the neighborhood entrance, where Mu Qing stood alone outside the security booth, pulling a large suitcase.
“Dad!”
“Baby!” Mu Qing opened his arms as soon as he saw Gu Lingjun, giving her a warm, solid hug. “Let Dad see if you’ve lost weight. Have you been doing okay? You haven’t been suffering, have you?”
Gu Lingjun smiled, tilting her face for Mu Qing to inspect. “Lost weight? I’ve gained some. Dad, do I look like I’ve been suffering?”
Mu Qing examined her closely—Gu Lingjun’s face was visibly rounder, with a healthy flush, looking both vibrant and more mature.
She seemed in great spirits, showing no signs of hardship, which suggested her relationship with Jiang Chuxie was indeed strong.
“Good, good, that’s great. As long as you’re okay, Dad’s relieved.”
Jiang Chuxie stood quietly behind Gu Lingjun, not wanting to interrupt their touching reunion. After a few words with Mu Qing, Gu Lingjun turned, grabbed Jiang Chuxie’s arm, and pulled her forward.
“Dad, Chuxie takes great care of me. You can rest easy.”
Mu Qing had been in contact with Gu Lingjun over the past few months, hearing about her daily life, and had grown somewhat fond of Jiang Chuxie. The young female Alpha seemed more mature and composed than a few months ago, appearing even more reliable.
“Um… Dad, let me take your suitcase.”
On the way, Gu Lingjun had instructed Jiang Chuxie to call Mu Qing “Dad” like she did and not be shy. Jiang Chuxie had mentally prepared herself and, despite the boldness, seized the chance to solidify her role as the son-in-law.
Mu Qing looked at Jiang Chuxie. His attitude wasn’t overly warm, but he showed no disapproval, nodding silently in acknowledgment.
Jiang Chuxie’s face lit up, and Gu Lingjun beamed, hugging Mu Qing’s arm happily. “Don’t just stand there. Dad, come home with us and sit down. Did you come alone? Why so sudden? You didn’t even give us a heads-up!”
She chatted and laughed as she led Mu Qing home, with Jiang Chuxie pulling the suitcase behind them, genuinely delighted.
In truth, since the incident with Yuan Ning, Jiang Chuxie’s mood had been lighter. It wasn’t just the half-hearted therapy sessions; beyond venting by confronting Yuan Ning, she had uncovered the identity of the “salesman.”
He was actually a private detective hired by Gu Lian. Given Gu Lian’s personality, he couldn’t possibly ignore Gu Lingjun completely. Besides asking Zhao Zi to keep an eye on her, he had hired a detective to investigate.
Unfortunately, Jiang Chuxie, paranoid after past events, was hyper-sensitive to any disturbance. The detective had observed them for months without getting usable photos, resorting to posing as a salesman—only to be caught by Jiang Chuxie.
After intercepting his report to Gu Lian, Jiang Chuxie confirmed he wasn’t lying. He also revealed that, to his knowledge, no one else had been following them.
Gu Lian’s hiring of the detective was partly to check if Jiang Chuxie was treating Gu Lingjun well and partly to ensure her safety. This reassurance eased Jiang Chuxie’s mind.
If Mu Qing, or even Gu Lian, fully accepted their relationship, Gu Lingjun’s situation would improve significantly. Given their devotion to their daughter, if they took her “alarmist” warnings even slightly seriously, they’d take further steps to protect her.
Jiang Chuxie hadn’t approached Gu Lian earlier not because she didn’t want to, but because she couldn’t. As a “phoenix girl” under scrutiny and not yet favored by her mother-in-law, being too proactive could deepen Gu Lian’s suspicions.
But with Mu Qing reaching out, her next moves would feel much more natural.
“Dad, have a seat,” Gu Lingjun said with the air of a household head, guiding Mu Qing to the sofa while instructing Jiang Chuxie, “Chuxie, put the luggage in my old room for now. Then make Dad a cup of coffee.”
“Sure.”
Watching their interaction, Mu Qing nodded inwardly. The small details showed Jiang Chuxie doted on Gu Lingjun daily; otherwise, Gu Lingjun wouldn’t command her so naturally, nor would Jiang Chuxie respond so effortlessly.
As Jiang Chuxie went to work, Mu Qing held Gu Lingjun’s hand and asked quietly, “Lingjun, be honest with Dad. Is Jiang Chuxie good to you?”
“Dad, you came all this way. Can’t you tell?”
Mu Qing sighed. “It’s not that Dad thinks Jiang Chuxie’s bad. Your mom and I wanted to plan everything for you—a grand wedding, a stable life. Then Jiang Chuxie appeared out of nowhere, and you love her so much. How could we not worry?”
“I understand, and Chuxie does too, so we don’t blame you. The day I left home, I said it: whether you and Mom see me as your daughter, you’ll always be my parents in my heart.”
“Silly girl, how could we not see you as our daughter? We just don’t want you to suffer.” Mu Qing hugged her, patting her back. “When we learned you were pregnant, your mom and I couldn’t sit still. Actually, she came too, but she’s too embarrassed to show her face.”
“I thought you ran away from home, Dad.”
“Hmph, I wish. If your mom keeps being stubborn, I’ll move in with you two.”
“So what’s Mom thinking now?”
“What else? She’s accepted it in her heart but doesn’t know how to back down. Give her a way out, and she’ll take it. Omega pregnancies are easier than Beta ones, with milder symptoms, but you still need proper care. I’m worried Jiang Chuxie lacks experience, so I’ll stay in B City for the next six months to help.”
“What about work?”
Mu Qing wasn’t a stay-at-home husband; he and Gu Lian ran their company together, often traveling for business. If he paused work, Gu Lian’s burden would grow.
“Your mom will figure it out. Don’t worry about her.”
Gu Lingjun giggled, linking arms with Mu Qing. “You’re right.”
They chatted about family matters, school life, and Jiang Chuxie’s work.
Jiang Chuxie returned with a tray, catching Gu Lingjun bragging to Mu Qing about winning a contract.
“Dad, here’s your coffee.”
Mu Qing looked at Jiang Chuxie, a slight smile on his lips. “Sit down. I heard from Lingjun about your company… Feiyue Tech, right?”
Jiang Chuxie sat beside Gu Lingjun, answering Mu Qing’s questions thoroughly.
Though unfamiliar with the emerging internet field, Mu Qing could see Jiang Chuxie’s insights into company positioning, product development, and growth strategies were mature. She wasn’t blindly charging forward with passion and some tech skills—she had a solid plan and had already achieved results.
“I heard from Lingjun you’re also trading stocks?”
The Gu family, wealthy for three generations, had a strong foundation in traditional industries like oil and real estate, with no need for public financing. Though Gu Lian didn’t dabble in stocks, as a capitalist, he knew the ins and outs. That’s why he avoided it.
Mu Qing always viewed stock trading as speculative and disapproved of young people neglecting proper work to chase the market. But from Gu Lingjun’s account and Jiang Chuxie’s demeanor, she clearly wasn’t obsessed with stocks and was ambitiously pursuing her own field.
“Yeah, I’ve made some investments, but it’s just part of my financial portfolio.”
They discussed further, and Mu Qing found Jiang Chuxie remarkably savvy, not like a naive youngster diving headfirst into the market for quick riches.
“You’re a computer science major, but you seem very familiar with financial operations.”
Mu Qing’s experience showed, noticing what Gu Lingjun hadn’t.
Jiang Chuxie replied calmly, “I come from a modest background, so I have to think harder, learn more, and broaden my horizons.”
She didn’t overexplain, nor did she need to.
Mu Qing nodded. “Xiao Jiang, you’re impressive. I admit we were prejudiced before. We just want Lingjun to be okay, and I think you feel the same, right?”
His words were diplomatic, preserving his dignity while giving Jiang Chuxie face.
“Of course. I’ve always understood your concerns and will do my best to show my sincerity.”
“Good. Then I’ll stay here tonight, no problem?”
Jiang Chuxie looked surprised, and Gu Lingjun was puzzled. “Dad, didn’t you say you didn’t run away, and Mom came too?”
“She did, but what’s the use if she’s too shy to show up? I want to see how long she can hold out.”
Realizing Mu Qing was helping them, they both smiled.
“Xiao Jiang, Lingjun says you’re a great cook. Will I get to try it?”
“I’ll cook tonight. Any dietary restrictions or preferences? I can go shop now.”
“Just make what you think is good. I’m not picky.” Mu Qing was very approachable. “Tomorrow’s the weekend. Lingjun, show me around your school. I’ve been there a few times but never really explored.”
“Sure, there’s a ball game these days, so it’ll be lively.”
As the son-in-law, Jiang Chuxie should accompany her father-in-law, but that evening, Zhuang Qi called.
After discussing the mobile business with her parents at home, they got into a heated debate. Zhuang Qi’s father now wanted to meet Jiang Chuxie—tomorrow.
