Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 72
Chapter 72
The lively university campus buzzed with laughter and chatter. Bright spring sunshine illuminated the vibrant faces of the students.
In stark contrast stood a middle-aged man in a loose coat, hood up, with an unshaven face and sunken eyes.
If students from the Life Sciences Institute saw him, they’d be shocked to recognize the once dignified, well-dressed Dean Xu in such a state.
B University’s campus was semi-open, blending with nearby residential areas, so entry wasn’t strictly controlled. Xu Wen had slipped in through some gate, his face hidden by the oversized hooded coat, hands in pockets, hunched over, drifting like a ghost.
Not far away, on the basketball court, the Life Sciences Institute was holding its intramural basketball game.
“I’m sorry, I should’ve gone with you.”
Convincing Zhuang Qi to pursue Kuaixun’s mobile business was no small matter, and Jiang Chuxie couldn’t decide it alone. Zhuang Qi’s father, learning it was her idea, insisted on meeting her in person.
On one hand, it was hard to refuse an elder’s request; on the other, the matter was urgent. Only by convincing Zhuang Qi’s father could Zhuang Qi secure the mobile business, and it needed to happen quickly.
“No worries, work comes first. Lingjun can show me around,” Mu Qing said.
His desire to visit the school wasn’t a whim. Gu Lingjun had changed significantly since starting university, and he wanted to understand her environment and friends, to see if anything beyond Jiang Chuxie had influenced her transformation.
“I should be back this afternoon.”
“No rush if you can’t make it. Important matters take time,” Mu Qing reassured.
Jiang Chuxie was uneasy about leaving Gu Lingjun’s side, but insisting they wait for her return would be overly paranoid. With Mu Qing there, plus Gu Lian’s hired help watching, it should be safer than when she was with her.
“I’ll contact you later then.”
“Okay~” Gu Lingjun adjusted Jiang Chuxie’s suit jacket, smiling. “Don’t worry about us. We’re just strolling, but you’re off to handle business.”
Jiang Chuxie held Gu Lingjun’s hand reluctantly—this weekend, she’d planned to spend alone with her. With Mu Qing staying over last night, she hadn’t dared do anything, and now they had to part ways, stirring an inexplicable unease.
But her unease wasn’t new, and aside from the false alarm with Yuan Ning, nothing had happened.
After seeing Jiang Chuxie off, the father and daughter prepared and headed to the school. As a top university, B University boasted unmatched campus facilities and infrastructure. Even on weekends, it was lively, especially around the basketball court, filled with cheers.
They wandered for most of the day. After lunch, Gu Lingjun took Mu Qing to watch the game. The Life Sciences Institute’s basketball tournament was ongoing, and nearly all student council members were present, including Zhao Zi, the president.
Due to her pregnancy, Gu Lingjun was given lighter clerical tasks and wasn’t needed these days. But since she was showing Mu Qing around, she figured she’d check if anything needed her help.
Mu Qing had played basketball in his youth. Though he couldn’t match an Alpha’s physicality, his passion for the sport was just as strong, and he watched with rapt attention, almost entranced.
Zhao Zi stood beside Gu Lingjun, whispering, “Lingjun, looks like your family’s starting to accept Jiang Chuxie.”
Gu Lingjun smiled softly. “Chuxie’s really great. My parents will come around.”
Zhao Zi was happy for her. “Getting their understanding so soon will ease the pressure on you and Chuxie. Ugh, I hope she stops being so tense—it’s making everyone else jittery.”
Gu Lingjun’s expression grew serious. “Actually—”
Her phone rang, cutting her off. Jiang Chuxie had finished her meeting with Zhuang “
“Yeah, Dad and I are at the court watching the game…”
Gu Lingjun nodded to Zhao Zi, then covered the phone’s mouthpiece and moved farther from the court. The crowd’s cheers were too loud to hear Jiang Chuxie clearly.
“Senior Zhao’s here too… Yeah, come over…”
“Haha, Dad’s really into the game…”
“Okay, I’ll keep the call on until you get here… Did the meeting go well?”
Gu Lingjun stood by the wire fence at the court’s edge, smiling sweetly as she talked to Jiang Chuxie.
“Yeah, I convinced Uncle Zhuang.”
After parking, Jiang Chuxie raced toward the basketball court. Persuading Zhuang Qi’s father took longer than expected. As a seasoned tech expert, he’d grilled her with skeptical questions.
She’d poured her heart into painting a grand vision, outlining future possibilities, and answering his queries as best she could.
Perhaps because he was a techie, he was ultimately swayed, even excitedly discussing the internet’s future trends with her.
With Zhuang Qi’s help, she finally slipped away, skipping lunch to rush to the school.
Hearing Gu Lingjun’s voice calmed her anxious heart.
“I see you.”
Jiang Chuxie spotted Gu Lingjun instantly. The young Omega, in an elegant dress, stood at the court’s edge, her serene presence a stark contrast to the lively scene, like she belonged to another world.
Her heart lifted, and she quickened her pace. Gu Lingjun, hearing her, turned around.
“I see you too. I’ll hang up now.”
They were less than a hundred meters apart. Gu Lingjun waved at Jiang Chuxie, ready to end the call.
“Lingjun, watch out!”
But at that moment, Jiang Chuxie sprinted forward, her panicked voice echoing through the phone.
A surge of danger gripped Gu Lingjun. She instinctively dodged, but a figure barreled into her, knocking her to the ground.
Fortunately, her quick reaction softened the fall. Aside from a twisted wrist, she wasn’t badly hurt. But the assailant clearly wasn’t done. Alarm bells rang in her mind. Even without seeing behind her, she knew she couldn’t stay still.
A gust seemed to rush at her. Steadying herself, she dodged again.
The glinting knife gleamed coldly in the sunlight. As Gu Lingjun evaded, she finally saw her attacker’s face and actions.
Xu Wen, like a beaten dog, had madness in his sunken eyes. He clutched a palm-sized dagger, glaring at Gu Lingjun.
“It’s you, it’s you, Gu Lingjun… Everything started with you!”
Gu Lingjun sat on the ground, backed against the wire fence with nowhere to retreat. She shouted for help, but her voice was drowned by a sudden roar of cheers from the court.
“Go to hell!”
Xu Wen gripped the knife with both hands, lunging at her. In a panic, Gu Lingjun threw her phone, hitting his face. He flinched in pain, closing his eyes. Seizing the moment, she scrambled up, running toward the crowd.
The court was packed, but everyone was focused on the game, facing away or blocked by the crowd. The noise was so loud that no one noticed a knife-wielding attacker in broad daylight.
Gu Lingjun had barely gained a moment, but Xu Wen, enraged, chased her, nearly grabbing her.
“Lingjun!”
Seeing the figure lunge at Gu Lingjun, Jiang Chuxie’s mind went blank. But her body moved on its own, every part of her mobilized for one purpose.
She sprinted at a speed she’d never reached, every cell screaming. Fear nearly choked her, her heart seeming to stop, yet adrenaline fueled her with explosive power.
In less than ten seconds, she reached the court, where Xu Wen was inches from Gu Lingjun.
Without thinking, Jiang Chuxie, like Gu Lingjun, threw her phone at Xu Wen’s head and pounced like a sleek panther.
Xu Wen, stunned by the pain, turned and was tackled to the ground. The two grappled fiercely.
Though younger and more skilled, Jiang Chuxie struggled against the crazed Alpha’s desperate strength, especially with his dangerous knife.
Seeing Jiang Chuxie arrive, Gu Lingjun didn’t hesitate. She ran toward the crowd for help. As an Omega, she was too weak to assist and would only burden Chuxie by staying.
The crowd soon erupted at Gu Lingjun’s cries, finally noticing the chaos. Several bold students rushed to help, while Zhao Zi shouted for council members to alert security.
Jiang Chuxie acted on instinct. The knife changed hands in their struggle, neither able to wrest it fully. Xu Wen’s eyes blazed red, utterly deranged, even trying to bite Jiang Chuxie’s ear.
She dodged instinctively, then felt a searing pain in her abdomen.
“Hahaha, die… I’ll make you all pay!!!”
The knife’s pierce was vivid. Jiang Chuxie felt something draining from her. She gripped the handle as warm, sticky bl00d gushed, staining her clothes and hands red.
Her tense muscles went limp, and she recalled the heavy fall of her past life’s sudden death.
Was she dying again?
“Chuxie, Chuxie!”
Amid the chaos, only Gu Lingjun’s voice rang clear. She felt Xu Wen shove her aside, standing to approach Gu Lingjun.
Her vision blurred, but one thought kept her conscious.
She had to protect Lingjun.
