Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 73
Chapter 73
Xu Wen, covered in bl00d, staggered to his feet, laughing like a madman. “You all deserve to die! You all deserve to die!”
“Chuxie, Chuxie!”
Most of the onlookers were students, frozen by his deranged appearance, hesitant to approach. Only Gu Lingjun, heedless of danger, tried to rush to Jiang Chuxie’s side.
Mu Qing held his daughter tightly, keeping her from nearing Xu Wen. But when Xu Wen saw Gu Lingjun, a twisted excitement lit up his face.
The original dagger was still lodged in Jiang Chuxie, but he quickly pulled another from his coat pocket, advancing toward Gu Lingjun.
Seeing the knife, the crowd recoiled further, not daring to approach. Mu Qing dragged Gu Lingjun back with them.
“Dad, let me go!”
“Going to her now won’t help. Security will be here soon. The priority is calling an ambulance.”
Gu Lingjun’s phone was lost in the chaos, and her mind was blank. Seeing Jiang Chuxie lying motionless, dead or alive, she felt like she’d plunged into an icy abyss.
“Chuxie…”
“Everyone, keep your distance! Don’t act rashly!” Zhao Zi’s heart raced seeing Jiang Chuxie hurt, but she didn’t want her peers injured too. “If you have a phone, call an ambulance!”
As the Life Sciences Institute’s student council president and Xu Wen’s former relative, she had to step up.
“Xu Wen, do you know what you’re doing? Aren’t you afraid of the law?”
“Hahaha, the law? What do I have to fear now? Zhao Zi, don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten you. I came for you today, but finding Gu Lingjun and Jiang Chuxie here is perfect. Let’s settle all scores.”
Xu Wen’s thoughts seemed coherent, but his feral expression, bloodied hands, and gleaming weapon made him look utterly insane.
Someone unafraid of death, bent on dragging others down with them, was the most terrifying. His ruthless aura intimidated nearly everyone, forcing the crowd to retreat before his staggering steps.
In her daze, Jiang Chuxie saw Gu Lingjun struggling and crying, heard her calling her name, and saw Xu Wen approaching her.
Clutching her abdomen, she found strength from somewhere, slowly rising from the ground.
With his back to her, Xu Wen ranted, waving his knife, reveling in spreading terror. A professor for twenty years, he was tasting the thrill of raw violence for the first time.
Jiang Chuxie breathed shallowly, her steps unsteady but resolute as she moved toward Xu Wen. Each breath was agony, each step heavy, but the pain in her abdomen seemed distant. All she saw was Gu Lingjun’s shocked, pained face, shaking her head desperately.
The crowd stirred as Jiang Chuxie stood, but Xu Wen, thinking their fear was for him, didn’t notice. No one alerted him as Jiang Chuxie closed in.
Gu Lingjun, held tightly by Mu Qing, was nearly limp with grief, unable to speak or cry out. She watched Jiang Chuxie approach Xu Wen, leaving bloody footprints, speechless.
“You cowards! So many of you, and you can’t do a thing! Hahaha, Gu Lingjun, Zhao Zi, all of you—die with me!”
Savoring the crowd’s fear, pain, and sorrow, Xu Wen finally charged at Gu Lingjun, brandishing his dagger.
The crowd instinctively scattered. Zhao Zi and Mu Qing stepped protectively in front of Gu Lingjun.
But before Xu Wen could reach her, a bloodied hand grabbed his shoulder. Then, two sharp pains stabbed his lower back.
Jiang Chuxie, gripping the dagger she’d pulled from her own body, stabbed Xu Wen twice. She never knew she could have such resolve to kill, yet her heart was calm.
Xu Wen turned in disbelief. Jiang Chuxie’s gore-stained fist smashed into his face.
“Chuxie!!!”
Xu Wen collapsed, his knife flying from his hand. The crowd surged forward, but Jiang Chuxie could no longer stand, collapsing to her knees.
Gu Lingjun, ignoring everything, pushed past Mu Qing and ran to her.
“Lingjun… Lingjun…”
Jiang Chuxie’s consciousness was fading, but she remained kneeling upright. Her only thought was whether Gu Lingjun was safe.
“Ling “Lingjun…”
“Chuxie, Chuxie!”
Gu Lingjun threw herself at Jiang Chuxie’s side, seemingly forgetting her pregnancy. She pressed her wound in panic, as if to stop the bl00d from flowing.
“You… you’re okay…”
“I’m okay, I’m okay!” For the first time since gaining control of her body, Gu Lingjun felt such profound fear. “Don’t talk, Chuxie…”
Good… that’s good.
“Lingjun…”
Fatigue, cold, and drowsiness dulled the pain. Jiang Chuxie felt heavy, her consciousness light.
The sensation was familiar, like something she’d experienced before. Her soul seemed to detach, her perspective floating upward. She saw Gu Lingjun holding her body, her clothes and pants soaked red, and her anguished face.
She felt no fear or sadness, only a simple wish.
“Don’t cry…”
Jiang Chuxie struggled to raise her hand to wipe Gu Lingjun’s tears, but her heavy palm was caked with half-congealed bl00d.
She was dying.
The thought crystallized in her mind. She opened her mouth to speak, but only a choked sound emerged.
Gu Lingjun clasped her hand tightly, tears streaming as she pleaded, “Don’t leave me, Chuxie…”
Jiang Chuxie wanted to say “I’m sorry,” but darkness engulfed her before she could.
As Jiang Chuxie’s eyes closed, Gu Lingjun’s heart plummeted. Her senses spun, as if sucked into a vortex, the sounds, people, and scene around her warping and collapsing.
It was as if she’d been ripped from the world, able to see every detail clearly yet feel nothing.
Countless images flashed through her mind, sharp pain stabbing her brain. Memories of meeting Jiang Chuxie played like a carousel, extending backward and forward.
“Lingjun, Lingjun!” With Jiang Chuxie unconscious, Gu Lingjun’s state was dire. Mu Qing, seeing her stare blankly at Jiang Chuxie, gasping as if hyperventilating, was frantic. “Lingjun, Jiang Chuxie will be fine. You have to hold on!”
He supported both their bodies, comforting his daughter while praying for rescue to arrive.
But Gu Lingjun seemed deaf to his words, clutching Jiang Chuxie’s hand, her soul seemingly gone from her body.
Security arrived first, but with the attacker already gravely injured, they had little to do. Ambulances and police followed. When medics appeared with stretchers, Gu Lingjun could no longer hold on, fainting in Mu Qing’s arms.
“How’s Chuxie?!”
Zhuang Qi arrived at the hospital during the surgery. Gu Lian and Zhao Zi sat outside the operating room, faces grim.
“She’s okay, right? Chuxie’s going to be fine, isn’t she?”
Fearing Zhuang Qi’s emotions would spiral, Zhao Zi grabbed her hand, soothing, “Chuxie will be fine. Yuanxun-jie is operating on her. She’ll pull through!”
Zhuang Qi’s eyes were red, her body trembling as she gripped Zhao Zi’s hand, nodding. “Right, right. My cousin’s a brilliant surgeon. She can snatch people from death itself. Chuxie will be okay.”
“Exactly. So we wait quietly and don’t trouble the doctors.”
Zhuang Qi forced down her panic and fear, as if agreeing with Zhao Zi and reassuring herself.
“That’s right, that’s right…”
She sat but sprang up the moment she touched the chair, snarling, “Where’s Xu Wen? Where’s that bastard?!”
“He’s in surgery too, Zhuang Qi. Don’t think about that now.”
“Surgery? He gets surgery? Why save him? Scum like him should die!”
She vented her rage, and Zhao Zi, unsure how to comfort her, stroked her back.
Gu Lian sat nearby, brows furrowed, filled with regret. She’d hired a detective to watch her daughter, mainly to monitor Jiang Chuxie. Coming to B City with intent to reconcile, she’d planned to end the arrangement discreetly, settling the detective’s fees yesterday.
Though the detective’s presence might not have changed the outcome, someone tailing Gu Lingjun could’ve spotted Xu Wen’s danger earlier.
It was all hindsight now. Recalling Gu Lingjun’s tearful collapse, Gu Lian genuinely prayed for Jiang Chuxie.
She learned the full story from Mu Qing. Initial relief that her daughter was unharmed faded quickly.
Gu Lian realized Jiang Chuxie’s deep love, worthy of her daughter’s devotion, wasn’t without reason.
To sacrifice one’s life for another required selfless, impulsive love.
She hoped it wasn’t too late, that Jiang Chuxie would recover. Otherwise, not just Gu Lingjun, but she too would live in regret.
“Where’s Gu Lingjun? Where is she?”
Zhuang Qi finally noticed the absence of a key person. With Jiang Chuxie gravely injured, how could Gu Lingjun not be here?
Zhao Zi sighed. “Lingjun fainted from grief and may have strained her pregnancy. She’s resting now.”
Zhuang Qi clenched her fists, seething. “Xu Wen better pray he doesn’t survive, or I’ll make him feel worse than death!”
