Dressed as the Scumbag Alpha Mom of the Tragic Female Lead (ABO, GL) - Chapter 81
Chapter 81
Jiang Chuxie’s cold expression shattered at Min Hang’s words. In this world, she cared about only one person.
“Chuxie!”
Zhuang Qi noticed Jiang Chuxie losing control as she lunged forward.
“Chuxie, calm down!”
She hurriedly grabbed Jiang Chuxie around the waist, but Jiang Chuxie’s strength dragged them both forward.
Min Hang, clearly startled, stumbled and fell, narrowly avoiding Jiang Chuxie’s attack.
Jiang Chuxie’s eyes blazed red. Once vehemently against violence, she now struggled to rein in her emotions. Anything involving Gu Lingjun could push her to the edge.
“If you dare hurt Lingjun, I won’t let you off!”
Dragging Zhuang Qi, who was holding her back with all her might, her fist nearly struck Min Hang’s face. He stared at the imminent blow, sweat dripping down his back.
“Get out! You relentless pests—can’t you leave Chuxie alone?”
Zhuang Qi clung to Jiang Chuxie. Fortunately, her regular workouts gave her strength nearly matching Jiang Chuxie’s, barely restraining her.
Min Hang, swallowing hard, scrambled back. In that moment, he’d felt real danger.
The president was right—Jiang Chuxie was mentally unstable, but only when it came to Gu Lingjun, which misled him into thinking she was mild-mannered.
He desperately wanted to flee, but exposed, he had to complete the president’s orders and see this act through.
“Senior, I wasn’t threatening you—just stating facts. You’ve likely been told the Lianping Association has more members than you think. We’re just reminding you not to rule out those close to you being involved, or you might regret it.”
If his earlier words sounded like a threat, these were nearly explicit, hinting at a possibility she’d never considered.
“What do you mean?”
“You’re so smart, Senior. How could you not guess?”
“Bullshit!”
Min Hang struggled to his feet, gripping the door. “Senior, I shouldn’t be the one telling you this. But if you keep digging, it’ll be a disaster for everyone… It’s not hard to guess, is it? When major things happen to you, who’s always by your side?”
The president had taught him these vague, pointed words carried more weight.
“Senior, please stop investigating the Lianping Association. If you don’t provoke us, we promise to leave you alone.”
Without waiting for Jiang Chuxie’s reaction, he opened the door and fled. No matter how well he’d played it, facing her fury triggered a Beta’s instinctual fear.
“Chuxie, you okay?”
Zhuang Qi, sure Jiang Chuxie wouldn’t chase or attack Min Hang, slowly let go.
She wanted to teach Min Hang a lesson too, but not like this—Jiang Chuxie’s intensity felt like she could’ve killed him.
“Don’t listen to his nonsense. These people are cunning, saying this to shake you.”
“I know!” Jiang Chuxie panted, glaring at Min Hang’s exit. “Lingjun couldn’t be tied to the Lianping Association!”
Zhuang Qi looked at her worriedly. “Is it true what Min Hang said? You’re still investigating them?”
“They’re too dangerous. I need to know my enemy.”
“Chuxie, don’t take this the wrong way,” Zhuang Qi said, wary of Jiang Chuxie getting entangled with the Lianping Association or any group, whether as allies or enemies. “If you really want no ties, ignore them completely—good or bad, just cut contact.”
No organization tolerates being investigated.
Jiang Chuxie stayed silent, her face grim. Zhuang Qi wanted to press but only patted her shoulder.
“Alright, he’s gone. Let’s be more careful. You’ve got a rare two-day break—forget this and go home to Lingjun.”
Jiang Chuxie nodded.
“Lingjun, I’m back.”
After a month of 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. workdays, Jiang Chuxie finally had a break. Adjusting her mood at the entrance, she entered the living room with a smile.
Gu Lingjun, just off a call, beamed and rose to greet her. “You’re back early. Have you eaten dinner?”
Over eight months pregnant, her belly was balloon-like, her movements increasingly limited.
“Not yet. You?” Jiang Chuxie supported her, bending to touch her leg. “Still a bit swollen. I’ll massage it later.”
“I ate earlier. Hold off—I’ll reheat the food. Eat first.”
Jiang Chuxie pressed her shoulder.
“I’ll heat it. Sit. I can cook.”
Gu Lingjun smiled helplessly. “Fine, but I’ll keep you company, okay?”
“Of course.”
Jiang Chuxie quickly reheated the meal, and they sat together, chatting leisurely.
“Mom asked if you need financial help. I said I’d check with you.”
Gu Lian knew about the Kuai Xun mobile acquisition and guessed Jiang Chuxie’s funds were tight. But Jiang Chuxie didn’t want Gu family help yet—her funds were sufficient, and… maybe she had some pointless pride.
She’d thought she didn’t care about Gu Lian’s opinion or class differences, but realized it was because she hadn’t loved Gu Lingjun as deeply then.
“They’re enough for now.”
Gu Lingjun smiled faintly. “As long as you’re not too shy to ask.”
“No way, I’m not that rigid.”
If push came to shove, she’d ask, treating it as a loan or investment. No need for pride—if she missed a critical window, the loss would be huge.
Gu Lingjun shook her head. “You’re not rigid, you’re stubborn.”
Jiang Chuxie laughed. “No way.”
After dinner, she washed dishes and massaged Gu Lingjun. Late pregnancy brought Gu Lingjun backaches and swollen legs. Though Jiang Chuxie returned late, she’d massage her if she was awake.
“I’ll go with you to the checkup tomorrow. No rush this time.”
Gu Lingjun hadn’t gained much weight, just swelling in her legs—most went to her belly. Jiang Chuxie massaged her, apologetic. “I didn’t properly accompany you the last two times.”
“You’re finally resting?”
“Yeah, I’ll stay home with you these two days.”
Gu Lingjun gazed at her, lips curving in a half-teasing smile. “I’m pretty busy myself. Don’t really need your company.”
Normally, Jiang Chuxie would’ve found it a sweet jest, but Min Hang’s words flashed in her mind. She’d tried to forget, refused to believe, yet this quip made her paranoid.
Shaking off the thoughts, she forced a smile. “Sure, sure. I’m the one burned out from overtime, desperate for your company.”
“You’re so dependent on me. What if I’m not around someday?”
Jiang Chuxie’s hands paused, her brow furrowing, visibly unhappy.
“Why wouldn’t you be?”
“Well… what if? Like Senior Zhao Zi, interning abroad, apart from Senior Zhuang?”
Jiang Chuxie lay beside her, pulling her close. “You’re not interning abroad, are you?”
Min Hang’s words were lies to rattle her. Her greatest fear was losing Lingjun.
Gu Lingjun nestled softly in her arms, her watery eyes meeting hers. “Maybe not.”
Jiang Chuxie froze, thinking seriously. “Then I’d go with you. Abroad might have fewer troubles.”
If escaping the province wasn’t enough, how about the country? The Lianping Association’s reach couldn’t extend overseas, could it?
“What about your work?”
“Zhuang Qi’s got it, and I can work remotely. If needed, I’ll fly back.”
Gu Lingjun shook her head. “Chuxie, I don’t want you spending so much energy on me. This past month was good. We can each chase our careers without being glued together.”
“That’s not being glued together. We’re legal partners—living together is normal.” Jiang Chuxie’s brows knitted tightly. “We can pursue our careers, but we don’t need to do it apart.”
Sensing her agitation, Gu Lingjun soothed her arm but pressed on.
“Isn’t it said that love is a hero’s grave? If you’re too hung up on me, worrying about me, you can’t fully chase your career, right?”
“Lingjun, what are you trying to say?”
Normally, Jiang Chuxie would’ve seen it as playful banter, but Min Hang’s words left a knot, making her feel Gu Lingjun was hinting at something.
Was this really just today? In her memory, Gu Lingjun had often said vague things.
Gu Lingjun giggled, smoothing Jiang Chuxie’s frown with her finger. “Chuxie, I thought a break would relax you. Why so serious over a casual remark?”
Jiang Chuxie kissed her hand, her voice hoarse. “I don’t like casual talk like that, Lingjun. I don’t like your hypotheticals. We’ll always be together, right? Career matters, but you’re the most important person to me.”
Gu Lingjun’s body trembled, her eyes lowering, a glint of tears at their corners.
“I understand…”
“Then don’t talk about separating again. I—”
Gu Lingjun leaned up, silencing her with a kiss, her hand sliding down Jiang Chuxie’s abdomen.
“Lingjun…”
“Chuxie,” Gu Lingjun’s voice was light, teasing, “let me ease your fears.”
