- Episode 8 - A Free Woman - Arisa Shibuya
“Hey, sis. You know, waiting like this in front of the convenience store isn’t really a good idea.”
“Yeah, it’s fine. Let me know when you arrive. Here, an American dog. You like it, right?”
The sky is blue. The clouds are white. The ice cream is cold.
A student from our school is wearing our uniform and heading home.
At the same time, in the same order, the same daily routine repeats itself.
Boring
Recently, it seems my younger brother got into a dangerous situation with some weird people, but someone from our school helped him out. He was making a big deal about how he single-handedly took down multiple people in an instant, so I thought it might be a bit interesting…
Well, after all, stories always get embellished.
Uncharacteristically, my brother was in high spirits, which piqued my interest, but when I think about it calmly, it might not be that interesting after all. Honestly, it depends on the person, but if it’s just some amateur thug around here, I could handle it myself.
Even if I ask my younger brother about the man’s characteristics, he probably won’t remember anything other than the glasses for the next two years. He says he doesn’t know anything else.
It’s probably not worth the effort to go that far to look for someone.
After all, being here right now is just a way to kill time for me.
“Hey, are you there?”
“Yeah, I haven’t seen it yet. That’s strange… I thought he was in the homecoming club since he came back around this time before.”
“Mm, understood.”
Really, it’s boring.
I have always been able to do well in both studying and sports without putting in much effort.
It’s just average, but it’s not really a problem. Even so, at this school, I can usually get around second place in the regular tests.
Perhaps if I studied properly, I could get first place, but I’m not particularly interested in such rankings.
Yeah. Anyway, I’ll graduate here without anything particularly interesting happening, go to a decent university, get a job at a decent company…
“Sorry, sis. I need to use the bathroom. I’ll be right back!”
“Mm, understood.”
For now, I think I’ll head home once my brother comes back from the bathroom.
I’m starting to get bored.
What the heck was that? Heh.
Suddenly, in my view, a plain-looking kid with glasses comes rushing towards the station from the other side, walking at an incredibly fast pace along the school route.
That was just for a moment, but it felt a bit interesting.
It’s not like they’re running, but the speed they maintain while just walking is so incomprehensible that it’s hilarious.
Oh, that kid from the class next door, huh?
Yeah. Today, while I was killing time looking around the classrooms of the same grade at school to find that guy, I happened to see a boy in the corner of the next class with his face buried in his desk, and his pants zipper wide open.
I don’t know the name.
Well, he wears glasses too, but that kid is definitely different, no matter how you look at it.
That kid is probably the same type as my younger brother.
“Oh! It’s Shibuya! Alone?”
As I was absentmindedly contemplating such things while gazing at the scene, I suddenly heard a man’s voice from behind me.
“Are you free now? Want to go somewhere with us?”
And when I turned around, there were men I somewhat knew.
There are people like Sakaki and his useless entourage.
“Not really. I’m not free, though.”
A modern man, in both good and bad ways, who has no distinguishing features and feels nothing.
“Ah. Hey, Sakaki. Look, that. Why don’t we invite Shibuya too?”
“Huh?”
“Look, it’s that thing I gave to Yamamoto earlier. There’s still some left, right? If it’s a woman as good as Shibuya, Tom-kun would be more than happy!”
“Oh! That! Hahaha, no doubt about it. Shibuya, look. That super popular TikToker, Tom-kun, seems to be having an event around here soon. Here, take this ticket. If you say it’s from me, it’ll be free.”
The super popular TikToker, Tom…?
Who?
I have no idea who it is, but Sakaki just slipped that ticket into the pocket of my vest without asking.
And then, before I could even say, “No, I don’t need it,” they walked away with a smug look on their faces…
I don’t understand the meaning, but it’s certain that it’s the same annoying vibe as always.
I still don’t understand why that person is being adored by a certain group of girls.
Well, I guess there’s no need to understand it…
“Sorry. I’m back! Big sis.”
“Yeah, let’s go home. I’m bored.”
Ah. Really, life is boring.
