- Episode 29 - The Other Man's Crisis (The other man's prospective)
“Hey, Natsuyama-kun. First, have a seat.”
Cram schools typically operate in earnest from the late afternoon into the evening.
Even a monkey could understand why—it’s because students usually drop by after school. That’s what cram schools are for.
So now, at exactly 12 noon—the time I was summoned—there was no one else around except me and the headmaster.
That fact alone made it painfully clear how serious the situation was.
“Headmaster, wait a second. I—”
“Natsuyama-kun.”
The headmaster pushed his black-rimmed glasses up the bridge of his nose and, without so much as a change in expression, spoke coldly:
“Sit down.”
“…Yes.”
He clearly had no intention of speaking to me until I took a seat.
Reluctantly, I sat down in the chair offered to me and faced the headmaster across the desk.
Despite my nerves, I managed to force out some words.
“What… what is this about me getting fired from my part-time job…?”
“So, you have absolutely no idea why that might be?”
“Of course I don’t! I’ve done nothing wrong!”
“…I see.”
The headmaster sighed.
There was plain disappointment in his eyes behind those glasses.
He placed a single photo on the desk.
“What is this…?”
It was a picture of me holding hands with one of the students.
Needless to say, a minor.
Worse yet, the location was damning.
It was a love hotel I frequented—often used for secret meetups with Fuyumi.
It was supposed to be a discreet place. How the hell did this get out?
“At this school, we absolutely do not allow relationships between staff and students. Not that I imagine there’s any institution that does. So, given that context, Natsuyama-kun, do you have anything to say in your defense?”
“Th-this is… this is just a misunderstanding!”
“A misunderstanding?”
“I—I just happened to bump into her by coincidence, and she started goofing around, like teasing me!”
“I see.”
“And where did this photo even come from?! Isn’t this illegal surveillance? Shouldn’t we be dealing with the creep who took it, not me? This doesn’t help her either!”
I tried to defend myself.
“Don’t play dumb with me, you bastard.”
There was a loud crash.
Only then did I realize I’d fallen out of my chair and collapsed on the floor.
“Wh-what the hell…?”
My teeth were chattering uncontrollably.
That’s when it hit me.
I was scared.
So scared I’d fallen out of my chair. My body was shaking.
Me, afraid of the headmaster?
Impossible. Unforgivable.
“Do you even understand what you’ve done?”
“I—I was just talking with her about some concerns she had—”
“What you did was destroy this cram school’s reputation. A cram school isn’t just a place to teach academics. It’s a place for students who can’t fit in at school, who struggle with studying—a place that’s supposed to
guide them. And there’s one thing, above all else, that such a sanctuary must never do. Do you know what that is, Natsuyama?”
“I—I don’t…”
“Then let me spell it out for you.”
The headmaster grabbed me by the collar and yanked me up.
Where was he hiding this strength in that slender frame?
“It’s harming a student. That—that is the one line you must never cross.”
“I didn’t hurt anyone—”
“Just because it was ‘only’ physical doesn’t mean it didn’t cause harm. You seduced, toyed with, and discarded multiple girls… and you think that’s not damage? Don’t think that makes it forgivable.”
“Okay, okay, I get it! I’m sorry! I won’t do it again!”
I had never been yelled at like this by an adult. All I could do was tremble.
“I’ll be informing your parents. And the police.”
At those words, I froze completely.
“W-wait, why are the police involved?”
“Because this is far too serious. We’ve received reports from middle school students, too. And even if you were made to pay damages, I doubt you’d reflect on what you’ve done.”
“That’s—this is tyranny! It’s too much! What gives you the right?!”
I couldn’t stop the cold sweat pouring down like a waterfall.
To be honest, the worst possible outcome would be for this to reach my university.
If it had just been between the cram school and me—or even the girls and me—it could’ve been handled.
It could’ve been settled privately. With enough hush money, my parents could cover anything.
But if the police got involved, it was over.
I’m set to graduate this year.
I’ve already got a job offer.
If charges of soliciting minors came to light now, I’d lose everything: my job offer, my graduation—hell, I might even get expelled.
“W-wait, Headmaster, please… anything but that…”
“No. After causing this much harm, you don’t get to walk away unscathed. Not just to the students—you’ve hurt the staff as well.”
I flinched.
No way… does he know about Akishima too—about Fuyumi?
That meant he knew I’d stolen my junior’s girlfriend.
How much does this guy know about me?
“This conversation is over. I have lessons to prepare for.”
“W-wait, please—”
“Get out. I have no business with outsiders… or monsters.”
Outsider.
That meant my termination was final. No room for negotiation.
I felt a searing rage consume me from head to toe.
“Damn it, DAMN IT!”
I kicked over a chair and stormed out of the cram school.
It’s fine. I won’t end like this.
I’ll get my father to make this all go away.
It’s fine. I’ve still got options.
There’s no way this is how it ends for me!

From under another desk, Koyomisac sluggishly crawled out.
She had been there as well, as both a witness and whistleblower.
“Headmaster… was it really okay to say all that?”
“I have a duty to protect the students. Though, in the end, I failed to do even that.”
“I don’t think it was your fault, sir.”
“Even so. It was something I should have stopped before it got this far.”
“Do you think he’ll actually be arrested?”
“I can only hope so. Now then, let’s discuss the aftercare for the students.”
“Yes, sir!”
