Chapter 12: Transfer
The long night was chased away by the dawn.
Yu Fu did not sleep and went downstairs early to eat. It was summer vacation now, and Yu Han couldn’t get up this early. The dining table was occupied by the brand new family of three. If it had been yesterday, Yu Fu might have sighed and felt melancholic, but today she felt calm and voiced her request.
“Mom, do I have any news about transferring schools?”
She gently lifted her eyes, like a obedient cat, and spoke softly, making the listener’s mood lighten up in the early morning.
Li Yinghua took a sip of milk and nodded, “Your student status is still here, you can just transfer when school starts. But what do you think? Should you repeat your second year or go straight to the third year?”
Yu Gaoda chimed in, “I suggest you repeat the second year. The teaching environment you had before is different from here, so you might have a hard time catching up if you go to the third year directly.”
Yu Fu gently bit her toast, slowing her chewing, and spoke in a low but persistent voice, “I want to go to the third year.”
Yu Han and Lu Xuezhou were both in the third year.
She had to catch up with them.
Thinking about this, she looked up and tentatively said, “Can I go to the same school as my sister?”
Li Yinghua paused, then looked at her husband sitting across from her, and they both smiled. Yu Gaoda spoke first, “Of course, you two sisters can go to the same school, it’ll be good to look out for each other. Your sister has good grades, so you can study with her sometimes. The third year is tough, and it’ll be even harder for you as a transfer student, so hang in there.”
Yu Fu nodded, then seemed hesitant as she shook her head, “Never mind, my sister has her own things to do, I shouldn’t bother her with my studies.”
Looking at her parents, who should have been familiar but exuded a sense of unfamiliarity, she carefully spoke, “If it’s convenient, can you find me a tutoring class? I want to use the upcoming break to study hard…”
The things she said and did were filled with timidity.
Li Yinghua and Yu Gaoda could both see that. Now, facing their daughter’s simple request, they would surely agree. Li Yinghua said, “I’ll help you find one today, you can start classes tomorrow. Your father and I have to go to work soon, if you want to go somewhere, you can call the driver.”
She pointed to the intercom nearby and showed her how to use it.
Yu Fu obediently nodded, “Thank you, Mom and Dad.”
Yu Gaoda was usually busy with work and had met all kinds of people, the docile ones, the stubborn ones, some easy to get along with, others difficult… but he had grown old, old, and this was the first time he tasted the warmth in his heart. He silently sighed, patting Yu Fu’s shoulder, “After breakfast, I’ll give you some money to buy a few clothes you like before school starts.”
Her T-shirts were all worn out.
Yu Fu was just about to say thank you when Li Yinghua gently interrupted, “We are the closest people, no need to be so polite.”
The dining room gradually became silent, Yu Fu’s breathing steady, and she finally said “Okay.”
Li Yinghua had been in the education industry for many years, and she contacted a tutor from a key educational institution in the city to temporarily add Yu Fu to a tutoring class. It was Yu Fu’s own request, she didn’t want a private tutor, afraid of feeling awkward, and a small group class was just right.
She took supplementary classes for all subjects, leaving home at 8 am and returning at 5 pm, picked up and dropped off by the driver, diligent like punching a time card.
Yu Han heard that Yu Fu was taking supplementary classes, but was not interested, continuing her leisurely life of eating and shopping with friends, occasionally meeting up with Lu Xuezhou. The only difference was that she still couldn’t contact Yuanyi. But it didn’t matter, she had checked the hotel surveillance video that day, and Yuanyi’s wet hair when he left showed that they had indeed been intimate.
Since he had touched her, Yu Fu had lost her threat.
She was no longer worth Yu Han’s attention.
–
After three days of supplementary classes, Yu Fu met a boy named Jiang Kan.
They were seatmates, and he was quite enthusiastic. First, he gave her some sugar when she had low blood sugar, then he lent her an umbrella when it rained, and even though he caught a cold from getting wet, he still approached her to chat, carefree and sunny, different from the boys she had met before.
That feeling was like being clean.
After the last class, they walked down the stairs side by side, and Jiang Kan invited her, “This Sunday is a holiday, do you want to come see the stars with me? My uncle bought a lot of photography equipment. I don’t understand it, but he said if it’s adjusted properly, we can even see the North Star. Do you want to come?”
Yu Fu didn’t want to go, and was just about to refuse when she was stopped by the name he mentioned.
“My Xuezhou ge is an expert, we won’t miss any stars with him.”
Yu Fu’s footsteps halted, her gaze betraying her thirst, “Who did you say?”
Hearing this, Jiang Kan matter-of-factly said, “Lu Xuezhou, do you know him?”
Yu Fu suppressed the trembling at the corners of her mouth, and the joyful, excited heart was suddenly startled by the honk of a car.
She looked in the direction of the sound.
A black Maybach stopped at the roadside, and the car door was pushed open from the inside, a tall figure in black emerged.
The person had a Chinese-style haircut, jet-black hair, revealing extremely handsome facial features, with smooth and sharp lines, exuding an aura of elegance. His tall, upright frame was dressed in a suit, and even as he lazily stuck his hands in his pockets, he gave off a captivating presence.
Yu Fu swallowed hard.
Standing next to her, Jiang Kan proudly introduced, “Isn’t he handsome? That’s my uncle.”
