Chapter 5: Not Worthy of These
Yu Han did not help Yu Fu carry the items, and instead called the maid from their house.
The two walked behind, and Yu Han’s tone was cold, “Don’t think that just because Liao Guiyun bought you a few clothes, he likes you. He’s an old womanizer, and he’s just toying with a young girl like you who hasn’t seen the world.”
Yu Fu’s face flushed with embarrassment as she tried to explain, “I didn’t think anything…”
Yu Han continued on her own, “His family is much richer than ours. If it were just relying on our dad’s company, we’d never be able to reach their level even in a thousand lifetimes. It’s only in the past few years, after mom’s job transfer and her establishing a reputation in the education field, that we’ve managed to have some social connections with those prominent families.”
So she was determined to reach Lu Xuezhou, even if it meant taking the initiative and swallowing her pride.
Yu Fu understood, but also didn’t understand. Yu Han’s implication was that she was not worthy of developing feelings for Liao Guiyun. Yet, as daughters of the same family, the older sister could be the girlfriend of Lu Xuezhou, and even be proud of it.
They were the children of the same parents, but were divided into different classes.
“Do you understand what I mean?” Yu Han suddenly stopped and turned to look at her.
Seeing Yu Fu’s stunned expression, a strong displeasure arose in Yu Han’s brow. This sense of rejection had appeared since she video-called Lu Xuezhou this noon and heard him comment on Yu Fu, and it had reached a climax when she saw Liao Guiyun lavishing attention on Yu Fu.
The Yu family already had one daughter who had married into a wealthy family. That was enough.
She was the pride of their parents.
Yu Fu felt a cold glare from her sister, and goosebumps rose on her skin. She was just about to nod in acknowledgment when Yu Han had already walked away quickly. Yu Fu’s tense nerves relaxed, and she slowly walked inside by herself.
Her parents had already come back.
Seeing their little daughter whom they hadn’t seen in a long time, Yu Mother Li Yinghua’s eyes brimmed with tears as she stepped forward and hugged Yu Fu’s thin frame, her voice choked with emotion, “The last time we saw you, you weren’t as tall as mom, and now you’re almost taller than me…”
Yu Father Yu Gaoda also came over and ruffled Yu Fu’s hair, his tone touching, “Yes, it’s been the blink of an eye and you’re almost eighteen.”
Watching the affectionate scene of the family of three, Yu Han, sitting on the sofa, sent a message to the obedient Yuan Yi.
Yu Han: [Do me a favor, tomorrow]
Yuan Yi: [What’s the cost?]
Yu Han glanced at the Yu Fu being hugged by her parents, and the fingers of her well-manicured hand tapped in frustration as she quickly sent: [Don’t worry, I won’t short-change you]
Yu Fu’s room was on the second floor, next to Yu Han’s. But the decorating styles were different – it was obvious that Yu Han’s was more carefully done, while the one next to it looked like a temporary guest room. In fact, to distinguish it from Yu Han’s pink-filled room, Yu Fu’s room was mainly blue, with a soft, feminine style that she didn’t like.
But she didn’t dare to say so. She still felt like an outsider.
At night, as Yu Fu lay in bed staring at the quiet night sky outside without the curtains drawn, she felt surreal. The wardrobe in the distance was open, filled with the clothes Liao Guiyun had bought her that day – they were so beautiful that she couldn’t even bear to close the cabinet doors, wanting to keep looking at them.
But Yu Han had repeatedly hinted that she was not worthy of these.
Was she really not worthy?
She couldn’t even open the door of the luxury car, while her sister owned several, parked in the garage like storage. What her sister had already grown tired of, Yu Fu had never even possessed.
Yu Fu sighed deeply and got out of bed to pull the curtains.
The bright light in the room was gradually swallowed by the darkness.
Even her own silhouette disappeared.
