Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 17
Yu Qingxue was so overwhelmed with excitement that she forgot to reply to the message. Hugging her blanket, she rolled back and forth across the soft bed until she was out of breath.
Her nightdress, which reached her knees, had ridden up to her thighs from all the rolling. Her fluffy chestnut curls were messy, falling across her flushed cheeks. Her eyes shimmered like spring water, and her snow-pale skin was tinged with a gentle pink hue. If someone had taken a photo of her in that moment, anyone who saw it would probably sigh and call her a natural-born beauty.
The wine’s delayed effect started to hit her. Yu Qingxue pulled the blanket over herself and curled up on her side. Her head was spinning, and without realizing it, she drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile, Ning Xi finished replying to the message and continued reading her script. After finishing a scene, she suddenly noticed that her phone hadn’t vibrated again.
She put the script down, intending to continue chatting with Assistant Xue. But as she glanced at the message she had sent earlier, she froze.
Why did I send something like that?
Did Assistant Xue misunderstand?
Why didn’t she reply? Could she be reporting to Yu Qingxue right now, saying she had ulterior motives?
Ning Xi’s heart tightened. If Yu Qingxue misunderstood her intentions or started to feel uncomfortable around her, that would be a disaster.
Yu Qingxue was the only Omega she had ever met who wasn’t interested in her. She was also exceptionally capable. Ning Xi truly admired her and even hoped they could become friends in the future.
She couldn’t let one careless message ruin that chance.
She tried sending another message to explain what she had meant, but there was no response.
Ning Xi tried to reassure herself. Maybe Assistant Xue had started work and didn’t have time to reply. Based on what she had learned about her so far, she might not take such a simple message too seriously, let alone report it to Yu Qingxue.
Fine. If Yu Qingxue brought it up tomorrow, she would just explain it clearly then. She already had a response prepared that would definitely clear up any misunderstanding.
The next morning, Ning Xi opened her eyes and saw it was already seven thirty. The group read-through would start in half an hour.
She quickly got up and went to the bathroom to wash up. Afterward, she realized she didn’t have any clothes to change into. With no other choice, she stayed in her nightdress and put on a bathrobe to avoid revealing too much.
As she passed through the upstairs lounge and pushed open the stairwell door, she immediately heard a man in the downstairs living room loudly asking Nanny Zhang if Yu Qingxue was still asleep and urging her to wake her up.
Someone else even suggested they all go upstairs and sing the national anthem in the hallway. That would definitely get Yu Qingxue out of bed. The idea was met with enthusiastic support.
Ning Xi quickly shut the door and did so very gently, afraid that the people downstairs would hear her.
Back in the lounge, she hesitated. Wearing yesterday’s clothes was out of the question. Her only option was to ask Yu Qingxue for help.
But Yu Qingxue was still asleep.
Ning Xi walked to her bedroom door and knocked softly. No sound came from inside.
She knocked again, louder this time, but still got no response.
Suddenly, footsteps and laughter echoed from the hallway outside. In a moment of panic, Ning Xi reached for the doorknob, pushed the door open, slipped inside, and closed it immediately behind her.
Yu Qingxue’s bedroom was dim. The heavy curtains blocked out all light. Ning Xi approached the bed, intending to wake her up and ask for a change of clothes.
She vaguely remembered the location of the bedside lamp, which was touch-sensitive. She reached out and turned it on. The warm yellow light gently filled the room, pushing away the darkness.
Seeing Yu Qingxue curled up in bed made Ning Xi smile.
The blanket had been kicked to the foot of the bed. Yu Qingxue was lying on her side, curled into a ball. Her messy hair covered her face, and her slender arms were raised above her head, tightly gripping her phone.
Ning Xi walked to the end of the bed, picked up the blanket, and gently covered her again. She also reached out to brush the loose curls away from her face.
Lowering her voice so she wouldn’t startle her, she said softly, “President Yu, it’s time to wake up.”
Yu Qingxue frowned and buried her face in the pillow.
Ning Xi raised her voice slightly and called her again.
This time Yu Qingxue had more of a reaction. She pulled her arms down and covered her ears, clearly resisting the idea of getting up.
Ning Xi noticed the phone in her hand resting near her ear. Worried that it might fall and hit her, she reached out to take it.
The moment her fingers brushed the phone, Yu Qingxue’s eyes snapped open. She held the phone protectively to her chest and demanded in a calm, sharp voice, “What are you doing?”
Ning Xi froze.
So waking her up wasn’t the problem. The issue was clearly the phone. What could possibly be on it?
“I came to wake you,” Ning Xi explained. “It’s almost eight. The crew is already here. They’re just outside in the hallway.”
When Yu Qingxue saw that it was Ning Xi standing there, she clutched the phone even tighter. “I’m awake now. You can go,” she said, her light-colored eyes full of caution.
“I came to wake you,” Ning Xi said again, a bit helplessly, “but also to borrow some clothes.”
She glanced down, motioning for Yu Qingxue to look at the bathrobe she was wearing.
“My new clothes are still downstairs. I didn’t bring them up. The ones I wore yesterday are dirty, and I can’t wear them again. Even if I am an Alpha, showing up like this in front of the film crew doesn’t seem appropriate.”
Yu Qingxue, hearing that Ning Xi wasn’t after her phone, finally relaxed a little.
She replayed what Ning Xi had just said in her mind. Then she got out of bed and said, “Wait here. I’ll go get you something to wear.”
“Thank you, President Yu.”
Yu Qingxue slipped on her slippers and walked toward the closet. After a few steps, she suddenly stopped and turned around.
“By the way, do you need underwear too?” she asked, her eyes instinctively sweeping over Ning Xi’s figure. Unfortunately, the loose robe covered everything, and she couldn’t see a thing.
“What size do you wear?” she asked before Ning Xi could reply.
For once, Ning Xi looked a little embarrassed. Her ears turned slightly red, though her expression stayed composed as she stated her bra size calmly.
Yu Qingxue’s heart was racing too. She fought down her shyness and gave a slight nod.
“Same size as mine, then. I’ll get you a brand-new set.”
She walked into the walk-in closet, while Ning Xi quietly reached up to touch her face, wondering if she had really blushed.
The conversation between them just now had left behind an awkward feeling. Ning Xi had only felt a little uncomfortable at first, but when her eyes met Yu Qingxue’s, which seemed to see right through her, she suddenly found it impossible to stay calm.
Especially when she remembered that the film crew was just outside the lounge.
Once she got the clothes, she would return to the guest room right away. She had to make sure no one misunderstood anything.
Out in the hallway, the lead director Jiang Yuanxin and the head screenwriter had gathered over a dozen actors into two rows. They stood facing the wooden door, ready to sing at any moment.
The screenwriter raised his voice and said, “When I give the signal, we all sing together. Give it your loudest, understand?”
Everyone nodded excitedly.
Then Jiang Yuanxin had an idea. “While we’re singing, Wang You, you go into Qingxue’s room and give her a little scare. Otherwise, even if she hears us, she might still be half asleep.”
Wang You was the actress playing the fourth female lead. She was also an Omega and had known both Yu Qingxue and Jiang Yuanxin since childhood.
Wang You’s personality was just like her name—calm and unhurried. “Alright,” she replied softly.
Jiang Yuanxin led her to stand by the door, ready to enter once the singing began.
“Ready, go.”
A loud chorus echoed through the second floor, breaking the quiet.
Jiang Yuanxin pushed the door open for Wang You. Her steps were light, and the singing perfectly covered the sound.
She made her way to Yu Qingxue’s bedroom door. With her hand on the doorknob, she turned and glanced at Jiang Yuanxin. He gave her a silent gesture of encouragement, his fist raised in support.
Wang You turned back around, gently opened the door, and walked in.
Inside, Ning Xi was sitting by the bed, waiting for Yu Qingxue. When the singing started, she wasn’t startled. She had guessed something like this might happen and was mentally prepared.
Yu Qingxue came out holding a set of clothes and underwear. She said to Ning Xi, “Don’t be alarmed by the noise outside. It must be Jiang Yuanxin making trouble again. Try these on. If they don’t fit, I’ll find something else for you. Wait—Wang You, why are you here?”
Yu Qingxue stopped in her tracks, surprised to see Wang You standing at the door.
Wang You blinked in shock. She looked at Ning Xi, who was sitting on the bed wearing a bathrobe, then looked at Yu Qingxue holding a lace bra in her hands.
It took her a few seconds to understand the situation. Her face filled with disbelief.
“I’m so sorry. I think I just interrupted something private,” she said, clearly stunned.
Ning Xi froze.
No. This is a misunderstanding. Please don’t get the wrong idea.
