Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 3
Ning Xi was an orphan. Though she could deduct most of her treatment costs through a special social welfare program, the expenses were still hard on her wallet.
After taking her bank card back from the hospital billing clerk, the phone in her pocket vibrated twice. She carefully tucked the card into a secure spot close to her body, stepped away from the counter, and pulled out her phone to check.
It was a message from her bank.
Account ending in 3069 made a purchase of 1994.24 yuan on September 18, 3021. Remaining balance: 5.76 yuan. [Huaguo Bank]
Ning Xi nearly lost her breath.
She had worked a summer job at an electronics factory during her freshman break and earned just over two thousand yuan. Four days in the hospital, and she had barely five yuan left.
That was only because a system delay had postponed the payment of this semester’s tuition. If the fee had gone through on time, she would not even have been able to afford her hospital stay.
People bustled through the hospital’s first-floor lobby. Ning Xi let out a long sigh, put her phone back into her pocket, and slowly walked toward the front entrance. A security guard saw the bitterness on her face and said with a kind voice, “Young lady, there’s no obstacle you can’t overcome. Just try to stay optimistic.”
Ning Xi paused in her steps.
He was right. Why was she being so negative? If she fully understood the world she was now in, there was nothing she could not earn with her own abilities.
She had absorbed the original Ning Xi’s memories and was still caught in the emotions. It was just a bit of tuition. Why worry?
The sorrow on her face gradually faded. Her cheeks regained color, and her black eyes sparkled. She turned and said, “You’re right. Thank you, Uncle.”
She took the free public shuttle and got off outside the gate of Beihua Academy. Following the memories in her head, she first headed to her advisor’s office to officially report her return and submit the results of her differentiation. Before students differentiated, the dormitories were split by gender into two buildings. After differentiation, the school had six separate dormitories based on gender and status. As a newly differentiated Alpha, she needed her advisor to transfer her to the female Alpha dormitory.
It was just past nine in the morning. The first class of the day had just started, so there were not many students on campus.
The clouds that had covered the sun were now scattered by a cool breeze. Bright sunlight poured down onto the paths. Heat shimmered in the air. Ning Xi walked in the shade of the trees that lined the walkway, a faint smile on her lips. She was tall, with long flowing hair and slender, graceful legs. Even the loose school uniform could not hide her excellent figure.
Two petite girls walked past, arms linked. As they passed Ning Xi, they could not help turning their heads to look at her again and again.
Ning Xi had been stared at plenty in her past life and was no longer sensitive to such attention.
In her mind, the original Ning Xi only became a heartthrob because of her pheromones. Before she had differentiated, she was just an ordinary, quiet girl who was too timid to stand up to bullies.
Now, Ning Xi made sure no one could smell her pheromones. Naturally, she assumed people still saw her as just another plain girl.
She arrived at the advisor’s office, knocked on the door, and only opened it after hearing someone say, “Come in.”
Her academic advisor, Fang Huailian, was a male Beta sitting at the desk inside.
Fang looked up when Ning Xi entered. His eyes met hers, and for a moment, he seemed caught off guard. Then he smiled warmly and said, “Can I help you?”
Ning Xi matched the face in her memory to the man in front of her, walked over, and said, “Hello, Professor Fang. I’m Ning Xi. I was hospitalized for four days due to my differentiation. I’ve now completed the process and came to report and clear my leave.”
Fang Huailian stood up in surprise. “Ning Xi? What did you differentiate into?”
“I’m an Alpha now,” Ning Xi replied. “I need help transferring to the Alpha dormitory.”
Fang Huailian looked her over from head to toe. He had some memory of her, mostly as a quiet, unremarkable student. When he received the call from the hospital a few days ago, he assumed someone like her would differentiate into a Beta. He never imagined she would become an Alpha.
Now, the Alpha version of Ning Xi looked completely different. She radiated confidence, beauty, and elegance. Fang marveled silently at the transformation. After a moment, he composed himself, smiled, and said, “Congratulations. I’ll make the transfer right now.”
He opened the drawer, pulled out two registration books, crossed out her name from the list of students in the pre-differentiation female dormitory, and then wrote her name into the Alpha dormitory registry.
Alphas were natural leaders, but they also clashed easily with other Alphas. Because of this, each Alpha was assigned their own private room.
Fang handed her the dorm key, and Ning Xi reached out to take it.
“Your new room is 606. I’ll call the dorm supervisor now. Once you’ve packed your things, you can move in right away.”
“Thank you, Professor Fang.”
After Ning Xi left, the previously quiet advisor’s office erupted with chatter. Other department advisors gathered around Fang, almost overwhelming him with a mix of perfume and questions.
“Professor Fang, when did your department get such a stunning Alpha? She’s gorgeous.”
“Her name is Ning Xi, right? Maybe she’s interested in switching to our finance program?”
“I’m jealous. She looks incredible. Beihua’s performance program might have another future international film queen on their hands, right after Yu Qingxue.”
In this world, the gender ratio was about one Alpha to one point three Omegas to ten Betas. Betas made up the majority, while Alphas and Omegas were equal in number.
Alphas were born leaders, with superior intelligence and physical ability. They had a slightly lower differentiation rate than Omegas, which made each new Alpha a hot topic among faculty.
Ning Xi returned to her old dorm room, packed her belongings, and left a note on the door before pulling her suitcase toward the female Alpha dormitory.
Professor Fang had already notified the dorm supervisor. Ning Xi simply gave her name, took the elevator to the sixth floor, found room 606, and opened the door with her key.
The room was small but cozy, decorated in a simple, clean style. Sunlight spilled in through the balcony window. Ning Xi walked into the bathroom and looked up at the mirror above the sink. After washing her hands, she caught her reflection and paused in surprise.
In her memory, the original Ning Xi’s appearance only resembled hers by about thirty percent. But now, after differentiation, the similarity had risen to almost ninety percent.
Her brows were delicate and arched like distant hills, her eyes clear and deep, and her lips naturally red with a perfect shape.
If it weren’t for the rough skin on her hands and the calluses in her palms, Ning Xi might have thought this really was her original body.
She had one more class in the morning. Ning Xi arrived at the performance department’s classroom just in time. The moment she stepped inside, all the buzzing conversations stopped as if blown away by the wind. A strange silence filled the room.
The seat by the door in the front row was empty. Ning Xi smiled and asked the short-haired girl sitting next to it, “Is anyone sitting here?”
The girl froze, then quickly shook her head. “No, no one.”
Ning Xi tilted her head slightly and smiled with warmth, like a spring breeze.
“Mind if I sit inside?”
A sharp gasp came from nearby, but Ning Xi paid no attention. She kept her focus on the short-haired girl.
The girl’s face flushed bright red.
“N-no, not at all,” she stammered as she stood to let Ning Xi pass.
“Thank you.” Ning Xi walked in and sat down, taking her textbook from her bag and placing it on the desk.
The professor had not yet arrived. Ning Xi flipped through a few pages and quickly noticed that the textbook’s content was identical to what she had studied in her previous world.
Her eyes lit up with quiet amusement. This would be easy.
In her past life, she had just finished filming a film aimed at winning international awards when she died unexpectedly. Now, in this novel world, she might still be able to earn the title of Best Actress.
“Hi, my name is Li Shuru.”
The timid voice came from beside her. Ning Xi turned her head and met a pair of shy, sparkling eyes, momentarily stunned.
Li Shuru.
The name was all too familiar.
Ning Xi remembered her clearly because she was the first Omega to smell the protagonist’s pheromones, and the first to bond with her physically.
In the novel, the event took place on the very day the protagonist returned to school after differentiating into an Alpha. During class, she accidentally cut her finger. Although she stopped the bleeding quickly, her pheromones were picked up by the Omega sitting next to her—Li Shuru. After class, while everyone else left for lunch, the two of them remained behind in the classroom and things quickly escalated…
Stop right there.
Li Shuru had not smelled her pheromones yet. The shyness in her eyes was probably just social anxiety from talking to a stranger, not infatuation.
“Hello, I’m Ning Xi,” she replied calmly, pulling her thoughts back to the present.
After thinking it over, Ning Xi concluded that she didn’t need to be overly cautious. She had full control now. As long as she kept her pheromones in check, there was no way any Omega would fall for her without reason.
“You’re the girl who took leave, right? You already finished your differentiation?” Li Shuru asked, surprised.
“Yes. I’ve differentiated into an Alpha,” Ning Xi replied. Without giving her time to react, she continued naturally, “Did anything major happen at school these past four days?”
“Absolutely!” Li Shuru’s eyes lit up with excitement. “On the fifteenth, Yu Qingxue gave a speech here. On the sixteenth, she contacted the school and said she’s planning a new movie and wants to cast the lead actress from our department. All the Alpha girls in our program signed up.”
“It’s a shame the registration deadline was yesterday. With your looks, no one else would have stood a chance.”
The name “Yu Qingxue” caused a flicker of surprise to flash through Ning Xi’s dark eyes.
Yu Qingxue was the main antagonist in the novel, a so-called villainess who was written with nearly as much detail as the female lead.
She was the only Omega in the world to have ever won an international film award. She openly disliked the protagonist and made things difficult for her after she entered the entertainment industry. On multiple occasions, she left the protagonist in humiliating situations.
If it hadn’t been for the eleven devoted Omegas backing her up, the protagonist might have been driven out of showbiz altogether by Yu Qingxue.
Their rivalry began during this very audition process.
The protagonist learned about the opportunity from Li Shuru, and although the deadline had passed, she didn’t give up. She asked her advisor for help to submit a late application.
Fueled by Li Shuru’s admiration, she believed with absolute confidence that the lead role would be hers.
The school agreed to include her. But on the day of the audition, she was captivated by Yu Qingxue’s beauty and lost her composure. She flirted with her, then recklessly released her pheromones in an attempt to trigger Yu Qingxue’s heat and bond with her on the spot.
Yu Qingxue, furious, humiliated her in front of everyone.
The protagonist was eliminated in the very first round.
For Ning Xi, this casting call was a golden opportunity.
She needed to pay tuition this semester. She also needed pheromone suppressants for her susceptibility period next month. This film audition could be the answer to both.
