Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 5
“You said it,” Fang Huailian quickly replied, worried that Yu Qingxue might change her mind. He pulled out his phone from his bag and called Ning Xi.
As soon as he unlocked his phone, he noticed a message from Ning Xi and a missed call.
He smiled and shook his phone toward Yu Qingxue. “What a coincidence. Ning Xi was trying to reach me too.”
On her way back to the dorm, Ning Xi ran into a few classmates from the acting program. They were standing close together, faces slightly red, chatting in low voices. Every so often, they glanced at her but quickly looked away whenever she returned their gaze.
Ning Xi paused for a moment.
Had her pheromones leaked? Why were they all acting so strangely?
As she approached the dormitory for female Alphas, she saw a familiar figure standing under a tree nearby, hugging a stack of notebooks and staring at the ground in a daze.
Ning Xi walked over and gently tapped Li Shuru on the shoulder. “Were you looking for me?”
Startled like a frightened deer, Li Shuru looked up quickly. Her cheeks turned pink as she held out the notebooks to Ning Xi.
“These are the notes from the past few days. I was going to ask you to come back to the dorm with me after class, but you walked too fast and I couldn’t catch up.”
Ning Xi took the notebooks with a bit of surprise and smiled warmly. “Thank you for going out of your way to bring these to me.”
She then explained why she had rushed off. “During class, when you mentioned the audition for the lead role in the film, I realized that even though I missed the application deadline, I should still try. So I went straight to Mr. Fang after class to see if he could help me.”
“You…” Li Shuru had just begun to respond when Ning Xi’s phone suddenly rang.
She pulled out her phone and saw that the caller ID said “Mr. Fang.” Her eyes lit up with excitement.
“It’s Mr. Fang calling.”
Li Shuru felt it was inappropriate to listen in, so she politely excused herself.
Ning Xi stood under the tree and answered the call. A breeze swept through the branches above her, rustling the leaves as if nature itself was cheering for her.
“Ning Xi, did you call me earlier for something?” came Fang Huailian’s cheerful voice.
“Mr. Fang, I have something very important I need to discuss with you in person. It’s not convenient to explain over the phone. May I ask when you’ll be available?”
“You sent a message and called too. It must be something serious,” he said with a laugh. “I’m having dinner at Shuiyun Pavilion right now. Come over. Call me when you arrive.”
Ning Xi had not expected things to go this smoothly.
She returned the notebooks to her dorm room, then took the campus shuttle and got off at the stop near Shuiyun Pavilion. Not far away stood a three-story building with traditional architecture. Ning Xi walked toward it and confirmed that the sign read “Shuiyun Pavilion” before approaching the entrance.
Just as she reached the door, she was stopped by a staff member.
“This is a members-only restaurant. Non-members are not allowed inside. May I see your membership card, please?”
Ning Xi held up her phone and explained, “I don’t have a membership card. My teacher is inside. I’m calling him now to come out and meet me.”
She dialed Fang Huailian’s number again.
Inside the restaurant, Fang Huailian had had too much to drink and kept going back and forth to the restroom. Yu Qingxue sat by the window, looking outside, her mood starting to drift.
The phone on the table suddenly started buzzing.
At first, Yu Qingxue ignored it. But the persistent buzzing quickly became annoying. She stood up, walked over, and saw the caller ID marked “Ning Xi.” Her slender fingertip hesitated for a moment, then gently tapped the green button to answer the call.
“Mr. Fang, I’ve arrived outside Shuiyun Pavilion. I might need you to come out and let me in.”
Yu Qingxue was momentarily dazed when she heard the voice.
She had definitely heard this voice somewhere in the past few days. But where?
There was a slight pause on the other end, followed by a puzzled voice. “Mr. Fang?”
Without saying a word, Yu Qingxue ended the call, put on her sunglasses, and walked out to greet her.
Outside Shuiyun Pavilion, Ning Xi looked at her phone in confusion.
Why would Mr. Fang answer the call but not say anything? Had he lost his phone?
When she looked up, the staff member’s expression had changed. His eyes were filled with suspicion, as if he believed she was trying to sneak in.
“Miss, without a membership card or someone to receive you, I’m afraid we cannot let you enter Shuiyun Pavilion.”
Just as Ning Xi was about to call again, a clear and pleasant female voice rang out from inside.
“I’m here to bring her in.”
Ning Xi looked up and saw a woman walking toward her. She had a slim figure with graceful curves. Her small, delicate face was partly hidden behind a pair of sunglasses, revealing only her straight nose, red lips, and a well-defined chin.
Yu Qingxue stepped into the sunlight with a lazy but elegant posture. Her soft curls draped over her shoulders, and her pale skin looked almost translucent, without a single flaw.
She stopped in front of Ning Xi and slightly lifted her chin. “Ning Xi?”
Ning Xi paused for a moment, then nodded. “Yes, that’s me.”
She felt a bit surprised. Since entering this story world, this was the first person who looked at her with such calm and natural ease. There was no awkwardness, no nervousness. Instead, the woman carried herself with quiet confidence, almost as if she was above everything.
“Come with me,” Yu Qingxue said. She turned around with a small smile and walked back into the restaurant.
Although her expression remained composed, Yu Qingxue’s mind was filled with thoughts.
When Fang Huailian mentioned that one of his students had recently gone through differentiation, she had immediately thought of the girl she met in the restroom.
She did not expect it to actually be the same person.
So Ning Xi had become an Alpha.
Behind her sunglasses, Yu Qingxue’s light-colored eyes sparkled with growing interest.
Ning Xi followed closely behind her, and neither of them spoke during the walk.
Without being the center of attention, Ning Xi felt strangely relaxed.
When they reached the private dining room, Yu Qingxue pushed the door open. Inside, Fang Huailian was just about to head out with his phone in hand.
Yu Qingxue took off her sunglasses and asked, “Where are you going?”
“I think Ning Xi has arrived. I was going to meet her at the door,” he said.
“There’s no need. I already brought her in.” She gestured for him to look behind her.
Yu Qingxue set her sunglasses aside casually and walked over to her seat. She rested one arm on the back of the chair. Her thick eyelashes lowered slightly, covering the glimmer in her eyes. Her posture was relaxed and captivating.
Ning Xi glanced at Yu Qingxue, then turned to Fang Huailian and said, “Mr. Fang, I’m sorry to interrupt your lunch break.”
“You’re not interrupting at all,” Fang Huailian replied with a smile. “Actually, I have something I want to talk to you about too. Come, have a seat.”
In the room was a round wooden table. Fang Huailian and Yu Qingxue had been sitting next to each other while they drank. Since Ning Xi had something important to say, she sat beside Fang Huailian. From her seat, she could clearly see the elegant woman across the table, absentmindedly playing with a strand of her curled hair.
There was a quiet detachment in Yu Qingxue’s expression, as if she didn’t care about anything. Oddly enough, that made her even more attractive.
Ning Xi turned her gaze away and said to Fang Huailian, “Mr. Fang, what did you want to talk to me about?”
Fang Huailian glanced at Yu Qingxue, then replied, “It’s not urgent. Why don’t you go first?”
Ning Xi did not hesitate. She went straight to the point. “Mr. Fang, I want to audition for the lead role in Yu Qingxue’s film.”
“That’s perfect timing,” Fang Huailian said with a cheerful smile. “I invited you here for that exact reason.”
He turned to Yu Qingxue and said, “Didn’t you want to give Ning Xi an early audition?”
“Qingxue?” Ning Xi looked at her in surprise. “You’re Yu Qingxue?”
