Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 6
Ning Xi did not expect her first meeting with the legendary “villainous female supporting character” to be so sudden and unpredictable.
“For an audition, let’s keep it a bit formal. Stand up and let me have a look,” Yu Qingxue said softly, resting her chin on her hand while her fingers lightly touched her cheek.
She was asking others to be formal, yet her own tone was completely casual, as if she was just doing what came naturally.
Fang Huailian gave her a helpless look and turned to Ning Xi. “That’s just how she is. She moves like she has no bones, incredibly lazy, sometimes too lazy to even speak. Don’t take it personally.”
“Not at all,” Ning Xi replied.
She would never be upset with Yu Qingxue. She needed her help to pay tuition and buy pheromone suppressants. If she could afford to be mad at someone, it certainly wouldn’t be Yu Qingxue.
Besides, she found Yu Qingxue’s indifference surprisingly pleasant.
Being a heartthrob was a dangerous role. At worst, it could get you killed. Ning Xi just wanted to live an ordinary life. If other Omegas could look at her the same way Yu Qingxue did, with no reaction at all, life would be so much easier.
Ning Xi stood and stepped in front of her. “Miss Yu, hello. My name is Ning Xi. I’m a second-year student in the acting department at Beihua Academy. I’m twenty-one years old.”
Twenty-one. Exactly five years younger than her.
Yu Qingxue sat up a little straighter. Her eyes, clear as glass, scanned Ning Xi from head to toe. Her face remained expressionless, but inside, something sparked. That little flame grew hotter and stronger with every passing second.
She hadn’t had such a calm presence at twenty-one.
Yu Qingxue felt a little restless. She stood up, crossed her arms, and walked slowly around Ning Xi. The heels of her shoes clicked sharply against the floor.
“Smile for me,” Yu Qingxue said when she stopped in front of her. She reached out and gently tapped Ning Xi’s cheek. “Let me see if you have dimples.”
The place where her finger touched warmed instantly.
Ning Xi paused.
Yu Qingxue’s behavior was a bit like inspecting an item for purchase, but Ning Xi didn’t feel offended. Instead, it confirmed her belief that Yu Qingxue really was different from everyone else.
It was no wonder she was the so-called villain. She was confident and clear-minded. No matter how many people fell for the main character, she never would.
Feeling safe, Ning Xi gave her a smile—one that had once been called the most beautiful in the entertainment industry. Her red lips curved into an enchanting shape, her dark eyes sparkled like stars, and her pale skin, framed by black hair, looked as soft as snow touched by spring.
“I don’t think I have dimples,” Ning Xi said with a smile.
“No, you don’t,” Yu Qingxue replied slowly, her brows knitting slightly.
Ning Xi couldn’t tell whether that meant she was satisfied or disappointed.
Did she bring up dimples because she was looking for someone who had them?
Ning Xi didn’t want to lose this chance so easily. “Dimples usually look sweeter on Omegas,” she said gently.
Yu Qingxue’s fingers twitched slightly. “So, if there are no dimples, they’re not sweet?”
Ning Xi answered with a subtle meaning in her voice. “Omegas with dimples are definitely sweeter.” In other words, if you want dimples, go look for an Omega. You can’t be that picky about an Alpha.
Yu Qingxue’s heart beat a little faster.
She had never smiled at Ning Xi before. Ning Xi probably didn’t know that she had dimples when she smiled.
The sharp buzz of Fang Huailian’s phone broke the silence. He stood up. “Let me step outside to take this.”
“No need,” Yu Qingxue said. “You can take it here. I’ve finished the audition.”
She sat back down, leaning into her chair with her back straight.
Just a moment ago, she had nearly blushed in front of Ning Xi.
Yu Qingxue could not believe she had been caught off guard by a younger girl.
Fang Huailian stayed in the room, gave Ning Xi a light pat on the shoulder, and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll talk to you after the call.”
Ning Xi nodded and watched him sit down to answer the phone. After a moment of thought, she walked over and sat in the seat next to Yu Qingxue.
As soon as she sat down, Yu Qingxue’s body tensed slightly, though her expression remained as lazy and relaxed as before. She held a crystal glass between her fingers, swirling the wine, her lashes lowered to hide her thoughts.
Things were still undecided. She had no intention of losing her composure in front of Ning Xi.
“Miss Yu, a toast to you,” Ning Xi said as she poured herself some red wine and held up her glass.
Yu Qingxue paused mid-swirling. “A toast for what?”
Ning Xi smiled. “To wish your film great success.”
In her previous life, Ning Xi couldn’t hold her liquor. A single glass of beer was enough to make her dizzy. But in this new body, she had an incredible tolerance. She tilted her head and finished the entire glass in one smooth motion. The dark red liquid disappeared between her lips, and her tongue lightly swept across them, not wasting a single drop.
After placing the glass down, she noticed Yu Qingxue’s cheeks were already pink, though she had only taken one small sip. Worried she might not handle alcohol well, Ning Xi quickly said, “You don’t have to drink the whole glass. I’m the one toasting you. Just a sip is fine.”
“I can handle it,” Yu Qingxue replied. She lifted her glass and finished it in one go. Her face turned even redder, her eyes softened, and the corners of her eyes held a faint and charming blush.
Whether it was the alcohol or something else, Yu Qingxue’s body relaxed. She returned to her original lazy posture.
Ning Xi reached out and gently took the empty glass from her hand, setting it aside. Then she asked softly, “Miss Yu, based on my performance earlier, am I qualified to join the audition?”
Yu Qingxue frowned slightly. “No.”
Ning Xi blinked.
Well then. That toast was for nothing.
She sighed inwardly. It must be because she didn’t have dimples.
Just as she was about to accept her fate, she heard Yu Qingxue murmur softly, “You’re already the lead. What audition are you talking about?”
Ning Xi stared at her for a moment and then asked the first thing that came to mind. “You’re not drunk, are you?”
In her heart, Yu Qingxue scoffed. Drunk? Never. She had never gotten drunk, not even once.
She was only pretending to be tipsy so she could hide the fact that she had almost blushed earlier.
“No,” Yu Qingxue said firmly. Then she recited a string of numbers. “That’s my assistant’s WeChat. Add her. She’ll contact you tomorrow.”
Fang Huailian returned just then, smiling as he walked over. He held the back of Yu Qingxue’s chair and asked, “What are you two whispering about without me?”
Yu Qingxue gave a small click of her tongue. “Has it even been an hour yet? Why is Guan Yujing calling you again?”
Fang Huailian chuckled and quickly changed the subject. “What did you think of Ning Xi? Are you satisfied with the audition?”
Before Yu Qingxue could answer, Ning Xi replied for her. “Mr. Fang, Miss Yu said I can play the lead.”
Fang Huailian looked surprised. “Just like that? What about the other Alphas who applied?”
Yu Qingxue looked completely unconcerned. “They’ll still go through the first and second rounds. If someone better shows up, I’ll make a change.”
She looked at him with a teasing smile. “How about that? Letting Ning Xi straight into the finals. I’m giving you face, aren’t I?”
“What do you mean giving me face?” Fang Huailian smiled. “Ning Xi is excellent on her own. I know you too well. You are not someone who tolerates anything less than perfect. If you were not satisfied, you would not care whose face you were saving.”
He turned to Ning Xi. “Don’t worry. Since she already said you are a good fit, it probably means she is not considering anyone else.”
Fang Huailian took the afternoon off. Ning Xi still had an elective class, so she returned to school on her own using the campus shuttle.
The first thing she did after getting back to the dorm was add Yu Qingxue’s assistant on WeChat.
The assistant’s display name was blank. The profile picture showed a pale hand holding a pile of snow. The hand looked even whiter than the snow itself.
Ning Xi changed the contact name to “Yu Qingxue’s Assistant” and sent the friend request.
At Shuiyun Pavilion
While Fang Huailian waited for Guan Yujing to pick him up, Yu Qingxue was holding her phone but did not unlock it. She kept playing with it in her hand, as if she was waiting for a message.
Fang Huailian looked smug. “So? Ning Xi really is impressive, right? Her height and looks alone put her way ahead of the others. I have been teaching for years and have never seen an Alpha more attractive than her.”
Yu Qingxue replied with a short, unenthusiastic “Hmm.”
Fang Huailian frowned. “What is with you? You seem distracted. Were you even listening to what I said?”
Yu Qingxue slowly swiped across her dark phone screen and answered lazily, “I heard you. Ning Xi is great. I already gave her the role, didn’t I?”
At that moment, her phone lit up. A WeChat notification popped up. Someone had sent her a friend request.
Yu Qingxue suddenly became alert. She sat up straight, unlocked the screen, and opened the app. She accepted the request right away.
Ning Xi’s account was easy to recognize. The profile photo was her own ID-style photo, and the username was simply “Ning Xi.”
As soon as the request was accepted, a message came in with a playful emoji.
Ning Xi: Hello, my name is Ning Xi. Miss Yu asked me to add you on WeChat. [Spinning emoji]
Yu Qingxue tapped on the spinning emoji with her fingertip, the corners of her lips lifting into a satisfied smile.
She replied: Hello.
Ning Xi had a sense of humor that Yu Qingxue found charming. She could not resist continuing the conversation for a few minutes. They agreed to talk again the next morning at nine. After that, Yu Qingxue closed the app.
When she realized Fang Huailian had gone silent, she looked up and was startled to find his face uncomfortably close.
“Why are you so close?” she asked, clutching her chest. “You walk without making a sound. That scared me.”
Fang Huailian returned to his seat and looked at her with a strange expression.
Yu Qingxue looked confused. “What are you staring at? Go look at your wife Guan Yujing. Be careful, if she gets jealous, you might end up sleeping on the floor.”
Fang Huailian narrowed his eyes. “Are you jealous of my love life? Is that why you are secretly flirting with my student?”
Yu Qingxue frowned. “When did I ever hide it from you?” She did not even deny the part about flirting.
“Ning Xi is only twenty-one. How can you do this with a clear conscience? You were already in primary school when she was born.” Fang Huailian looked at her like she was a rich woman trying to keep a younger lover.
“It is just a five-year difference,” Yu Qingxue said. “She is taller than me, more composed than me. Honestly, if someone said she was older than me, people would probably believe it.” She nudged him. “She is not dating anyone right now, right?”
Fang Huailian thought about it. Ning Xi’s behavior really did not match her age. She carried herself with a calm maturity far beyond most twenty-one-year-olds. If she had enough patience and understanding, being with someone like Yu Qingxue did not seem impossible.
“No, she is not. Students who have not gone through differentiation are not allowed to date. She only just returned to school today. There is no way she found someone already.”
Yu Qingxue let out a breath of relief. “Good. Keep an eye on her for me. If anyone shows up as competition, you better let me know right away.”
She had been single her whole life. Now that she finally liked someone and wanted to date, she did not want to lose her chance to someone else.
Fang Huailian pushed her hand away and asked, “You already have her WeChat. With your charm, you could probably win her over in two or three days. Are you really afraid someone will take her from you?”
“I told her this is my assistant’s account.”
Fang Huailian blinked. “Do you even want to pursue her?”
“No,” Yu Qingxue replied. She rested her head on her arm and looked up at him with a wink. “I am an Omega. Shouldn’t she be the one chasing me?”
Fang Huailian replied, “That is usually how it works. But you are famous and successful. You are still seen as someone too far out of reach. Even if Ning Xi likes you, she probably would not dare to make the first move.”
Yu Qingxue smiled with confidence. “That is not a problem. Once she becomes my lead actress, she will never get away from me.”
Fang Huailian suddenly felt a little sorry for Ning Xi.
Yu Qingxue had a very intense personality. Once she set her sights on someone, there was no escape.
Ning Xi would definitely end up in her hands.
The next day was Saturday, also the day of the first round of auditions for Yu Qingxue’s film. The gymnasium at Beihua Academy was bustling with energy. A crowd of students had gathered outside to watch the excitement.
Inside, more than twenty female Alphas from the acting department stood holding their application forms. Staff members guided them to a designated area where they waited nervously for their turn.
Even among Alphas, there were different levels. Cai Yixuan’s uncle was the richest man in Beihai City. Her family had power, money, and plenty of influence. Ever since she decided to pursue acting, her family had hired the best teachers for her. She had spent the entire summer after graduating from high school training and filming at Beihai Film Studios.
Out of all the Alphas present, Cai Yixuan was the only one with real acting experience.
She looked around the room and did not see anyone more attractive than herself. This gave her even more confidence. Whether in skill or appearance, she was the top candidate. She was determined to win the lead role.
Landing this role meant more than just exposure. It meant she would get to work closely with Yu Qingxue. Cai Yixuan had liked her since middle school. When she learned that Yu Qingxue had differentiated into an Omega, she began hoping she would become an Alpha.
So far, all her dreams had come true. If she could just win this opportunity, maybe something would happen between them too.
That thought made her breathing quicken.
The audition was scheduled to start at nine. There were only five minutes left.
Yu Qingxue had arranged for eight interviewers. If a candidate received approval from at least five of them, they would move on to the next round.
Yu Qingxue sat in the center and held final decision power. Even if all eight judges agreed on a candidate, she could still reject them.
The interview panel included producer Yu Qingxue, head director Jiang Yuanxin, two assistant directors, three casting directors, the lead screenwriter, and the stylist.
Nine people sat in a row. The preliminary auditions were about to begin. The other eight wore serious expressions, fully focused, while the person sitting in the center, Yu Qingxue, stared at her phone screen.
At exactly nine o’clock, staff went outside to call in the first candidate.
Yu Qingxue quickly opened her chat with Ning Xi.
She had just pulled up her emoji panel, hesitating over which one to send, when Ning Xi sent a message first.
Ning Xi: Good morning, Assistant Xue~
Yesterday, when Ning Xi asked how to address her, Yu Qingxue told her to call her “Assistant Xue” since her surname was Xue.
To Ning Xi, it might have sounded formal and respectful, but to Yu Qingxue, it felt more like a cute nickname between lovers.
Yu Qingxue replied: Good morning [cute smile]
Yu Qingxue: [Image] This is the list of candidates auditioning today.
Ning Xi: [surprised] Why are you showing me this? Are you asking me to guess who my strongest rival might be? [pout]
Yu Qingxue’s fingers tightened around her phone.
So cute.
She could be sweet or sassy, just as expected from someone she had taken an interest in.
The first Alpha walked into the room and immediately saw Yu Qingxue lowering her head with a smile on her lips. Her eyes sparkled, and the dimples on her cheeks were so sweet they seemed like honey.
The Alpha froze, staring at Yu Qingxue and completely forgetting her self-introduction.
Director Jiang Yuanxin had to remind her, “This is an audition. Stay focused.”
The candidate snapped back to reality, blushing deeply and bowing in apology. “I’m sorry.”
Her mental state was clearly unsteady, and her performance suffered as a result. Not a single one of the eight judges passed her, and she had to leave in disappointment. At the door, she turned to look back at Yu Qingxue, reluctant to walk away.
Yu Qingxue had been a dream goddess for an entire generation of Alphas, a legendary Omega. She retired from the entertainment industry at the peak of her fame. No Omega since had achieved the same level of success.
As her conversation with Ning Xi grew more lively, Yu Qingxue was even laughing aloud at Ning Xi’s witty messages. The following few candidates were constantly distracted during their auditions, and none of them performed well.
Before the eighth Alpha entered, Director Jiang Yuanxin leaned toward Yu Qingxue and gently suggested, “Sitting for too long isn’t good for your back. Why don’t you take a break for a while?”
Yu Qingxue still wanted to stream the audition live for Ning Xi, so she responded, “My back is fine. I could sit for two hours straight and feel nothing.”
Jiang Yuanxin exchanged a look with the lead screenwriter seated on Yu Qingxue’s other side, silently asking for help.
The screenwriter understood and carefully phrased his words. “Qingxue, you seem very happy chatting. Are you in love? Young people should not rely on messaging alone. It’s better to meet in person and build the relationship. These auditions are not that critical. Why don’t you go spend some time with your special someone? Leave things here to us.”
Yu Qingxue hesitated, looking toward the door. “If I go out now, the students will surround me immediately.” Besides, she could not think of a good reason to ask Ning Xi to meet.
The stylist quickly offered a solution. “I can get you a wig, a different jacket, a mask, and sunglasses. No one will recognize you.”
If she stayed any longer, the entire audition session would be a disaster.
Yu Qingxue frowned slightly. “I need to think of a reason to invite her out.”
“Just make one up. There’s no way anyone would turn you down,” the screenwriter said. “You should go now. The crowd outside will only grow. Later it might be too packed to leave. If you can’t think of something to say to her, come to me. I’ll help you come up with the perfect excuse.”
Yu Qingxue glanced at the hopeful faces around her and gave a soft hum. “So you all just want to get rid of me.”
The screenwriter laughed. “You are the one who wants to go spend time with your crush.”
Jiang Yuanxin added, “This is no place for a young woman in love. Hurry up and go.”
Yu Qingxue did want to see Ning Xi. “Fine, I’ll give you what you want today. But don’t even think about getting rid of me during the next round of auditions.”
The entire panel let out a sigh of relief.
The stylist stood up right away. “Let me help you with your disguise.”
Yu Qingxue changed into a short wig, put on a plain jacket, and added a mask and sunglasses. She looked like a completely different person. As long as no one looked closely at her eyes, there was no way they could recognize her.
As soon as she left, the eighth Alpha was called in.
Cai Yixuan had long dreamed of meeting Yu Qingxue in person. She straightened her back and confidently approached the table, lifting her chin to meet the judges’ eyes. But when she saw the seat labeled with Yu Qingxue’s name was empty, disappointment washed over her.
Back in the female Alpha dormitory, Ning Xi was chatting with Yu Qingxue’s assistant while copying down notes that Li Shuru had given her. She only opened the candidate list after finishing the last page.
There were two columns with over twenty names. Only one name stood out to her. Cai Yixuan looked somewhat familiar.
Before she had time to think further, her phone vibrated. A new message had arrived from the assistant.
Yu Qingxue’s Assistant: Miss Yu felt the audition at Shuiyun Pavilion was too rushed and would like to see your improvisation skills. She is waiting for you at Taoxue Lake.
Taoxue Lake was well known at Beihua Academy as a romantic meeting spot.
