Everyone Spends Money to Make Me Debut as Center (GL) - Chapter 9
Chi Ling had done some research before she came, so she wasn’t surprised to see a room full of cameras.
The production crew was lined up at the entrance of the second-floor lobby, which was decorated quite nicely but had nowhere to sit.
As soon as Chi Ling entered, a VJ with a camera followed her. She instinctively turned her head and smiled at the lens, causing the ears of the uncle holding the camera to turn bright red instantly.
The makeup artist had dressed Chi Ling in a simple outfit. She wore high-waisted flared jeans that made her legs look long and a knit off-the-shoulder top that showed off her captivating collarbones and slender shoulders. Her accessories were basic and understated, and with just the right amount of light makeup, she looked very fresh and pleasing to the eye.
It was probably Tang Yu’s intention for her to keep a low profile in the beginning, but her red hair was eye-catching. It made Chi Ling look like she had a red lantern on her head wherever she went, making it impossible to ignore her. This was actually her strategy: with this hair, it would be hard for the audience to miss her, even in the corners of the shot.
The VJ had also filmed many beautiful female artists, but none of them were as captivating at first glance. Chi Ling’s entire demeanor was as if she were facing a stage camera 24/7. She would seize any opportunity to flirt with the camera as if it were a fan, and every smile and every frown seemed to have a soft-focus effect.
“Welcome. You are the first trainee to report in.” A girl holding a megaphone in the middle of the production crew was speaking. Chi Ling turned and saw that this girl was Xi Yaozhi, whose business card Tang Yu had given her. She was reading something that sounded like a script. “There are a total of twenty-five four-person dorms here. The dorms are first-come, first-served. Since you’re the first to arrive, you can now choose your room freely.”
The third and fourth floors were the dorms. The layout was similar, with the only difference being whether the rooms faced the sun or the shade.
Chi Ling’s suitcase was light and not too big. The production crew took her phone, and she picked up her suitcase and went upstairs. She chose the sun-facing room furthest from the stairs so that she wouldn’t be bothered by the sound of footsteps when she was resting.
There wasn’t much furniture in the room: four bunk beds, with a desk and chair under each top bunk. The spacious room looked a little empty.
A large green oxford bag was on one of the beds, which probably contained a quilt. Chi Ling wiped her finger on the railing of the bunk bed’s ladder, and a layer of fine dust was on her fingertip. It seemed the room hadn’t been cleaned in a long time.
The VJ quickly aimed the camera at her face, not wanting to miss a shocked expression from Chi Ling. But to his surprise, she just blew the dust off her finger, silently took a rag out of her suitcase, and spent only half an hour cleaning the entire dorm from top to bottom. The floor was so clean it was reflective. Not only that, but Chi Ling was also very skilled at making the bed, which made the VJ start to question everything he knew.
Wait a minute? According to the normal plot, shouldn’t Chi Ling at least complain a little, if not throw a tantrum? But the aura she’s giving off is as graceful and virtuous as the Snail Fairy. What’s going on? Is the person I’m filming really Chi Ling?
In truth, cleaning was nothing to Chi Ling. She had grown up in a welfare home and was used to being self-sufficient. By the age of seven or eight, she could help with washing dishes and mopping floors. When she got older and stronger, she could even do some simple woodworking, and she knew how to use a jigsaw and a soldering iron.
Chi Ling quickly realized that she hadn’t said anything the whole time, and the editors might not have any material to work with. So, while she was washing the rag, she turned to the camera with a smile. “This is your conspiracy, isn’t it? I bet as soon as a roommate arrives, I’ll have to help them make their bed.”
The VJ’s forehead was sweating, feeling guilty for being seen through so easily. “It seems like other trainees have arrived downstairs. Do you want to go see?”
This was cueing Chi Ling to follow the script. Chi Ling had been a popular celebrity for a few years, so her interaction with the other trainees was definitely a selling point. Most viewers would bet on her being arrogant rather than approachable.
Seriously? Chi Ling was someone who even slapped Wei Xike, a first-tier singer. How could she be nice to a few unknown kids?
Chi Ling dried her wet hands and nodded. “Okay.”
The stairs led directly to the second-floor lobby. Before she even reached the last step, she could see two oversized black suitcases, almost as tall as a person. Next to the suitcases stood a girl in a black tank top and cargo pants. A thick silver chain hung around her slender neck, and she wore silver cross earrings. Only her pale, delicate face was unexpectedly soft-looking.
Chi Ling immediately took a step back. The ordinary face from her past life had taught her not to stand next to someone with cold, fair skin for a photo; even first-tier female stars would lose out.
Chi Ling: System, are you there?
System: You need me for something!
The tone was full of anticipation. In the past few days, it had tried to sell Chi Ling various amazing skills from the system store countless times, only to be ignored each time. It was starting to get worried about its performance.
Chi Ling: How long does it take for items exchanged from the system store to take effect?
System: Instantly, no waiting required!
Chi Ling quickly opened the “Entertainment Skills” category, chose “Appearance,” and selected “Skin Tone.” The price was 10,000 pay-to-win index to lighten or darken her skin by one shade. Without a second thought, she gratefully invested the 200,000 that her soon-to-be ex-wife had “invested.” Only then did she put on a smile and walk up to the girl.
“Hello, I’m Chi Ling from HM Entertainment.” HM Entertainment was the name of Bai Chang’s studio.
“Ling Yu.” The girl shook Chi Ling’s hand. Her black eyes were so deep they seemed to suck a person in. “Lemon Entertainment. I specialize in rap.”
The smile in Chi Ling’s eyes slowly faded, and she felt her lips stiffen a little.
This has to be a script! Tang Yu had just told her to avoid people from Lemon, and the production team had conveniently sent one right to her?
