- Chapter 6 - "Want to Touch Mine Too?"
“I’m so excited for the movie!”
“Yeah, me too! Oh, isn’t Koga-san’s favorite actor in it?”
“Y-Yeah! You remembered, Sana-chan? That makes me so happy…”
Spending time with classmates, like going to see a movie, was part of maintaining my carefully constructed image. I had to keep up appearances. Thankfully, today’s film—a coming-of-age romance—was one I was genuinely interested in. It felt less like a chore than other outings.
That is, until I saw her smile.
“Oh, Wakana-san. What a coincidence.”
My attempt to maintain composure faltered as Wakana-san appeared, her ever-present confident smile directed at me.
“What a surprise. Are you and your friends here to see a movie as well?”
Wakana-san wasn’t alone; she was with her own group of girls. Counting everyone, there were six of us altogether. I knew I needed to tread carefully—one wrong move, and my facade could crumble.
“Yup! We’re here for Eat My Calf, the new romance movie. I’ve been so excited for it!” Sana practically bounced with enthusiasm.
“Oh my, that’s the same movie we’re here for,” Wakana-san said, her gaze scanning her group for confirmation.
“It looks amazing! Why don’t we all watch it together?” one of her friends suggested.
“Hey now, I’m not a fast-food order you can just add to the group,” Wakana-san teased, chuckling softly.
Her poise was almost intimidating. Though we weren’t in the same class, Wakana-san’s ability to mask her true nature struck a familiar chord with me. I couldn’t let my guard down.
“Oh, but are there even six seats available together?” I blurted, hoping for an excuse to avoid this merger.
“Amazing! There are exactly six!”
“…Why is this movie not sold out?” I muttered under my breath as one of Wakana-san’s friends efficiently reserved our seats.
“Wouldn’t it make sense for Sana and me to sit together? It’s less awkward for everyone that way,” Wakana-san suggested with a sly smile. The others agreed immediately.
My stomach churned. Why did Wakana-san’s proximity always feel so suffocating?
“Yay! I hope we can all become good friends!” Sana said cheerily.
Friends? With Wakana-san? That was the last thing I wanted.
The theater lights dimmed, and the film began. The protagonist, an unassuming boy, was surprisingly played by Koga-san’s favorite actor. Despite myself, I started to get drawn into the story—until I felt it.
Something warm brushed against my hand on the shared armrest.
“Shhh… Don’t make a scene, Sana. You’ll draw attention.”
Wakana-san’s whisper was barely audible, her voice dripping with mischief. Her fingers intertwined with mine, their soft warmth both comforting and invasive.
“Why… why are you holding my hand?!”
“Because I want to. Relax, no one will notice.”
Her touch grew bolder, her fingers gently tracing mine. The intimacy was maddening.
“Sana, your hand is so soft.”
She said it so casually, yet her actions were anything but. Her fingers played with mine, teasing and exploring.
“W-Will you stop already?!”
“Why? Doesn’t it feel nice? You can touch mine too if you want.”
Her offer hung in the air like a challenge. Wakana-san brought her hand closer, her fingertips brushing against mine suggestively.
“I-I’m not interested in touching you!”
“Hmm? Are you sure? Your body says otherwise.”
Her teasing tone sent a shiver down my spine. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t pull away. Wakana-san had me completely under her control.
As the movie ended and the credits rolled, I felt utterly drained. Wakana-san leaned in close as the lights came up.
“You held on longer than I thought you would. Impressive.”
“What is wrong with you?”
“Oh, don’t be mad, Sana. I had fun.”
With that, she stood, her group following her out of the theater. I could still feel the warmth of her touch lingering on my hand.
“Ugh… Why does she always have to mess with me?”
I muttered under my breath, vowing to stay far away from Wakana-san next time. Yet deep down, I couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d find a way to close the distance again.
