Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 16
Yang Jiu’s hand was forcefully shaken off, and she had to let go.
She said to Shu Nanxuan helplessly, “It’s me.”
Shu Nanxuan turned her head, staring at her.
The bar’s noise was loud, and it wasn’t clear if Shu Nanxuan heard her.
Her hazy gaze seemed to be figuring out who was beside her.
Yang Jiu let her look, not rushing her.
As long as Shu Nanxuan was by her side, she could stay longer if she wanted, just not drink too much.
She called the waiter for a glass of water.
A minute later, Shu Nanxuan mumbled something, but the music drowned her out.
Yang Jiu had to lean closer to hear again.
“What did you say?” she said louder near Shu Nanxuan’s ear.
Shu Nanxuan didn’t push her away.
She raised her voice to match, giving a slight, scornful laugh first, then, “Why should I stop drinking just because you say so?”
She turned aside, picked up the glass with nearly half left, and downed it in one gulp.
The noise forced Yang Jiu to decipher what Shu Nanxuan said.
By the time her slow mind caught up, Shu Nanxuan had swallowed the drink, and stopping her was impossible.
“I’ll drink if I want; you can’t control me,” Shu Nanxuan said, seeming pleased with her “revenge.”
After swallowing, she opened her mouth to show Yang Jiu her empty mouth.
The alcohol’s scent spread from her open lips to Yang Jiu’s nose, fragrant and intoxicating.
Shu Nanxuan wasn’t drunk at all.
Even after downing half a glass, she only felt slightly dizzy. She knew it was Yang Jiu beside her the moment she spoke.
Already irritated by her, Shu Nanxuan came to the bar for a night of peace but ran into her, which made her even more annoyed.
Yang Jiu, stung by her retort, couldn’t respond.
She had no right to control Shu Nanxuan, so she sat quietly, staying by her side, ready to take her home later.
Shu Nanxuan filled her glass again, asked the waiter for more ice, and, ignoring the person beside her, slowly sipped the amber liquid.
In no time, another half glass was gone.
The earlier gulp hit hard, and now the aftereffects kicked in.
She turned to look at Yang Jiu.
Maybe the music shifted to a slow, lyrical song, changing the mood.
Maybe the alcohol lowered her guard.
With nothing else to do, drinking alone was less appealing than chatting.
Shu Nanxuan started, “Why are you here?”
Yang Jiu had followed her.
After sending the message and getting no reply, Yang Jiu knew she’d failed again.
She sat in her car, feeling lost, unsure if her persistent clinging was working on Shu Nanxuan.
While lost in thought, Shu Nanxuan came downstairs.
After she drove off, Yang Jiu, on impulse, started her car and followed, not expecting Shu Nanxuan to head to a bar.
Seeing people approach Shu Nanxuan, Yang Jiu couldn’t suppress the jealousy rising in her.
She sat beside Shu Nanxuan, determined to stay no matter what, blocking those eyeing her.
But she couldn’t admit it.
Feeling guilty, she said, “Coincidence.”
Shu Nanxuan scoffed, not believing a single punctuation mark of that excuse.
What a coincidence.
“Does Lawyer Yang come to bars often?”
The question made Yang Jiu flush red.
She knew her excuse was flimsy, but hadn’t expected Shu Nanxuan, tipsy as she was, to point it out so sharply.
Whether she came often or not, no answer was good.
Yang Jiu didn’t respond, instead asking back, “And you, do you come often?”
