- Chapter 17 - Are You Worried That I’ll Get Drunk and Slept With Someone Else?
Shu Nanxuan laughed, as if amused by Yang Jiu, looking quite pleased.
Her elbow rested on the table, her posture lazy.
Perhaps feeling warm from the alcohol, she unbuttoned another button of her blouse, faintly revealing a bit of her straight collarbone.
“Lawyer Yang’s charm hasn’t faded from back then,” she said, taking another sip of her drink.
Yang Jiu knew what she meant.
They met through a debate competition, where the key to winning was dodging unfavorable questions, finding small logical flaws, and turning the question back on the opponent.
It was blatant sarcasm, but since Shu Nanxuan didn’t follow up with another question, Yang Jiu had at least dodged this one.
Yang Jiu exhaled, feeling a familiar sense of suppression.
Shu Nanxuan was like that—dominant in front of everyone, never letting anyone get the upper hand.
Except… in bed.
At that thought, Yang Jiu glanced at Shu Nanxuan’s lips, red and tempting, looking very kissable.
She turned her head, swallowing hard, suppressing her desire.
You have to be decent, at least until you reconcile, she reminded herself again.
But Shu Nanxuan wasn’t letting her off.
As another sip of liquor slid down her throat, she leaned forward, almost pressing against Yang Jiu, and said near her ear, “Follow me here?”
She pulled back, giving a half-smile, her hazy gaze not matching her sharp mind.
Shu Nanxuan said “followed,” but Yang Jiu had called it “coming along.”
One word’s difference, but a world apart in meaning.
Yang Jiu instantly realized the distinction.
Followed—like she was some kind of pervert.
“I didn’t,” she denied instinctively, still embarrassed by the comment.
What kind of image did she have in Shu Nanxuan’s mind now?
Shu Nanxuan said nothing, just kept looking at her, a sip of liquor in her mouth, her eyes probing.
Yang Jiu felt uneasy under her gaze, finally nodding under the pressure, like a rabbit struggling to its last breath.
“I… did… come along after you.”
The liquor in Shu Nanxuan’s mouth, savored enough, was swallowed with a slight effort.
She didn’t dwell on the word’s difference, just said with a half-smile, “Coming along… what for?”
Compared to earlier, Yang Jiu felt Shu Nanxuan had changed.
The icy distance seemed gone.
Her gaze and movements had a hint of softness.
Even charm.
Images flooded Yang Jiu’s mind.
She shook her head, pushing them out, cursing herself for thinking such filthy thoughts.
“I was just worried about you,” she said.
Perhaps finding the table uncomfortable, Shu Nanxuan shifted, leaning back on the sofa, then beckoned Yang Jiu closer with a finger.
She reclined on the sofa, and Yang Jiu had to brace herself on it to avoid touching her.
Yang Jiu was cautious, but Shu Nanxuan didn’t care.
As Yang Jiu leaned over, Shu Nanxuan hooked an arm around her neck, drawing even closer.
Her tipsy mind couldn’t control her actions, and her lips brushed Yang Jiu’s ear.
“Worried about what? Worried I’d get drunk and sleep with someone else?”
