- Chapter 23 - So You Were Staring at Me in the Elevator Just Now?
Despite telling herself not to stare, Yang Jiu couldn’t control her eyes once they entered the elevator.
Standing behind Shu Nanxuan made it easy to sneak glances.
Her eyes, forced away for a few seconds, always returned to Shu Nanxuan—sometimes her waist, sometimes her hips.
Though she kept reminding herself to be decent, Yang Jiu couldn’t stop her eyes.
When the elevator door opened, Shu Nanxuan stepped out first but didn’t head to her place. Instead, she turned and blocked Yang Jiu’s path.
“Look good?”
Her tone was light, her mood cheerful, even carrying a hint of teasing to Yang Jiu.
But the “decent person warning” made Yang Jiu dodge the question instinctively, playing dumb.
“What?”
Unsure if Shu Nanxuan saw through her act, she wasn’t letting her off.
She stepped closer to Yang Jiu.
“Do I look good?”
Yang Jiu swallowed, shrinking back to avoid contact with Shu Nanxuan.
“Good. You… look very good.”
Shu Nanxuan laughed at Yang Jiu’s words, a low, muffled chuckle.
“So you were staring at me in the elevator?”
The elevator walls were spotless, reflecting all of Yang Jiu’s actions.
Shu Nanxuan saw her wanting to look but not daring to, and found it amusing.
She seemed to have really become innocent over the years—downstairs, in the elevator, and now.
Forced by her, Yang Jiu even shrank back.
Clearly, Shu Nanxuan forgot being pinned against the wall and kissed here a month ago.
Yang Jiu froze.
Too busy staring, she hadn’t realized Shu Nanxuan saw her actions.
Recalling what Shu Nanxuan said here last time, she panicked and denied it.
“I didn’t.”
She spoke firmly, as if it were true.
Her words said no, but their close proximity made her breathing nearly uncontrollable.
Since meeting again, Yang Jiu used her finger cot more often than in all her single years.
She couldn’t handle any of Shu Nanxuan’s teasing.
Without willpower, she would’ve already pulled the woman in front of her into her arms and kissed her.
But she couldn’t yet. Shu Nanxuan hadn’t forgiven her.
She could do nothing to her now, even with desire—she had to handle it herself.
She understood the logic, but Shu Nanxuan speaking so close in their private moment was torturous.
Yet, despite the torment, she didn’t want to miss Shu Nanxuan being this close.
Shu Nanxuan carried a faint scent of sweat mixed with light perfume.
In the silent pause, Yang Jiu quietly inhaled, imprinting the scent in her mind.
If Shu Nanxuan were sweating in bed, it would probably be this scent.
“No?”
After half a minute, Shu Nanxuan’s voice came again, questioning.
“No.”
Yang Jiu steadied herself, answering in an utterly serious tone, dispelling the faint romantic tension between them.
Shu Nanxuan scoffed, said nothing more, stepped back, glanced at her, and turned toward her own place.
