Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 28
“Go sit down, it’ll be ready soon,” Yang Jiu turned around and said with a smile to Shu Nanxuan, feeling her gaze from behind.
Shu Nanxuan didn’t move.
She still leaned against the door.
The scene before her felt both familiar and strange, as memories overlapped with the present.
In their senior year, Shu Nanxuan moved out of the dorm for convenience and rented an apartment across from the university.
Senior year had fewer classes.
Classmates were either job hunting or interning, so the two of them didn’t need to worry much except for their thesis.
That year, they spent most of their time in that apartment.
On free weekends, they would buy groceries together, and then Yang Jiu would cook while Shu Nanxuan watched from behind.
Back then, Shu Nanxuan would hug Yang Jiu’s waist and act coy, “Yang Jiu, how are you so great? I really like you.”
Yang Jiu would turn around and kiss Shu Nanxuan’s face, “Be good, go wait outside. It’ll be ready soon. The kitchen’s full of fumes.”
Shu Nanxuan blinked, shaking off the memory, and turned to go to the living room.
She was someone with almost no recreational activities.
The short videos young people loved didn’t interest her.
Her life was entirely consumed by work.
Now, in Yang Jiu’s home, she suddenly didn’t know what to do.
She opened her computer and checked.
The emails were already handled, with nothing needing her reply now.
Shu Nanxuan closed the computer and put it away.
With nothing to do, she wandered back to the kitchen door, “Need any help?”
Yang Jiu turned around, glanced at her, and likely realized Shu Nanxuan was bored.
She handed her a garlic bulb, “Yes, please help me peel garlic, boss.”
Shu Nanxuan took the garlic, pulled over a small stool, and sat quietly by the trash can, starting to peel.
“Don’t call me boss,” Shu Nanxuan said, her voice a bit muffled.
She always felt Yang Jiu’s use of “boss” carried an unclear, ambiguous tone—not uncomfortable, but uneasy.
“Then what should I call you? President Shu?”
Shu Nanxuan fell silent. If not President Shu or boss, what should Yang Jiu call her?
Nanxuan?
Silence fell between them again, but this time it was quickly broken.
Yang Jiu’s voice seemed unaffected by the topic, “You are the boss, aren’t you? If I don’t call you boss and you get mad, what if you dock my pay?”
Shu Nanxuan laughed, “What’s with you lately, always thinking about money?”
Seeing Shu Nanxuan laugh, Yang Jiu felt instantly relieved. Mimicking a classic line from My Own Swordsman with its tone, she said, “I’m out here working. If I don’t think about money, what should I think about?”
“Hahahahahaha,” unrestrained laughter echoed in the small kitchen.
“Then work hard, and at New Year, the boss will give you a raise,” Shu Nanxuan said, imitating Tong Xiangyu’s accent.
My Own Swordsman was something they watched together in college, one of their few recreational activities.
The pressure of studying was heavy back then, and watching the show helped them relax.
“Then I’ll thank the boss first. I’ll definitely work hard,” Yang Jiu said, raising her fist toward Shu Nanxuan, speaking as if it were serious.
Shu Nanxuan burst out laughing again, “Hahahaha.”
Yang Jiu turned around and put the drained winter melon into the clay pot, which already carried the faint aroma of pork ribs.
I’m not thinking about money. I’m thinking about you.
