Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 3
The workload at the company wasn’t heavy initially, but there was much to learn.
On her first day, Yang Jiu held a meeting to meet everyone and understand their job responsibilities.
Being a legal director for a company wasn’t difficult, at least not for her.
After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, she declined a guaranteed postgraduate recommendation and joined a law firm.
Within just five years, she became a partner at the firm—a process that was undoubtedly grueling.
But the value she brought was immense.
She specialized in corporate legal disputes and had gained significant recognition in the legal industry, which was one reason she was confident about joining Nanhe.
Shu Nanxuan needed someone with her skills.
Though her professional abilities were unquestionable, she still needed to spend considerable time reviewing Nanhe’s past legal disputes upon joining the company.
On her first day, Yang Jiu stayed late at the company.
She had someone retrieve Nanhe’s dispute case files from the past three years and began reading through them one by one.
She worked quickly.
Starting in the afternoon, by 9:30 p.m., she had already reviewed a third of the files.
Feeling it was about time, Yang Jiu stood up, stretched, and prepared to leave.
After easing her sore neck and back, Yang Jiu placed a finished case file on the “completed” pile, tidied her desk, grabbed her bag, and left the office.
As she exited the elevator on the basement level, the adjacent elevator opened, and Shu Nanxuan stepped out, rubbing her neck.
Their eyes met, and both froze for a moment.
Yang Jiu, reacting first, immediately smiled, delighted to run into Shu Nanxuan.
“Nanxuan, are you leaving too?”
Shu Nanxuan frowned again.
Yang Jiu still hadn’t dropped the habit of calling her by her first name.
The way Yang Jiu said her name, always with infinite gentleness, reminded her of the past.
Yang Jiu seemed to love saying her name.
“Nanxuan, the sun is nice today. Shall we go for a picnic?”
“Nanxuan, you look beautiful today,” she had complimented.
“Nanxuan…”
Shu Nanxuan shook her head slightly, pushing those memories out of her mind.
“Director Yang, you seem to have forgotten what I said this morning.”
Yang Jiu didn’t mind Shu Nanxuan’s attitude.
“But Nanxuan, it’s after work hours now,” she replied.
Shu Nanxuan, irritated by Yang Jiu’s demeanor but unable to do anything about it, quickened her pace toward the parking area.
Yang Jiu followed her.
“I’m thrilled to join Nanhe, Nanxuan. Thank you,” Yang Jiu said.
“No need to thank me. I only thought you were suitable for the role. I’m a businesswoman who values your skills. Besides, don’t forget there’s a probation period. If you’re not suitable, you’ll end up like the last legal director,” Shu Nanxuan replied.
“I can do it. Trust me,” Yang Jiu said.
Shu Nanxuan reached her car and opened the door.
“Director Yang, whether it’s work hours or not, I don’t think our relationship is close enough for you to call me by my first name.”
“I hope Director Yang will use a different form of address in the future. Others might misunderstand if they hear,” she added.
Without waiting for Yang Jiu’s response, she got into the car, started the engine, and drove off.
Others?
Who?
That person?
Yang Jiu watched the car disappear from her sight and slowly walked toward her own car.
Her heart felt pricked by tiny needles, yet there was a faint sense of relief.
She felt relieved that her expertise in corporate legal disputes was useful to Shu Nanxuan.
Perhaps choosing that field back then was driven by a faint hope—a hope to have some connection with Shu Nanxuan, even if just to comfort herself.
