Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 30
Perhaps the atmosphere during lunch was too good, so when Yang Jiu suggested watching a movie together in the afternoon, Shu Nanxuan hesitated but agreed.
Her rationality told her she shouldn’t have agreed, but Shu Nanxuan looked at Yang Jiu’s eyes when she made the request and nodded.
Though she wanted to take it back the next moment.
Yang Jiu eagerly asked what type of movie she wanted to watch, she softly said “anything” and cut off the last chance to back out.
She could clearly feel Yang Jiu’s mood improve after she agreed to watch a movie together. Yang Jiu spoke more too.
After eating, they sat together, staring at the phone screen to pick a movie.
They finally chose a light comedy.
Work was already tiring, so there was no need to watch a suspense film and guess back and forth.
A romance movie was even less suitable unless Yang Jiu had lost her mind to pick one to watch with Shu Nanxuan now.
With some time left after choosing the movie, Shu Nanxuan went back to her place.
Yang Jiu nervously started picking clothes and putting on makeup.
She wanted to dress formally but feared Shu Nanxuan might find it off-putting.
Yet, this date-like plan made Yang Jiu not want to be too casual.
After much deliberation, she chose a casual shirt with jeans, let her hair down, and applied light makeup.
She checked the mirror, felt it looked good, saw the time was about right, and went to call Shu Nanxuan.
When Shu Nanxuan saw her, a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes, but she didn’t ask anything.
Yang Jiu, as if reading Shu Nanxuan’s gaze, gently explained, “My clothes got smoky from cooking at noon, so I changed.”
Shu Nanxuan listened and only gave a faint “mm,” offering no comment.
They drove to the mall. After picking up the tickets, they had a few minutes before the movie started.
Yang Jiu bought drinks and popcorn.
“You like this?” Shu Nanxuan asked, taking one of the drinks.
Yang Jiu smiled.
“Not really. I just saw other moviegoers buying it, so I did too.”
Shu Nanxuan nodded to show she heard but didn’t speak.
Many people came to watch movies on the weekend.
Shu Nanxuan looked around; most were in pairs, either couples or friends.
She and Yang Jiu…
When Yang Jiu didn’t speak, it was quiet between them.
Amid the lively crowd, they seemed a bit odd.
Fortunately, the wait wasn’t long.
A few minutes later, they announced ticket checking.
Yang Jiu stood up, looked at Shu Nanxuan, and said, “Let’s go.”
Shu Nanxuan followed her to the ticket counter.
After checking tickets and sitting down in the dim theater, Shu Nanxuan finally felt a bit more comfortable.
She quietly let out a breath, still surprised in hindsight that she agreed to watch a movie with Yang Jiu.
Her relationship with Yang Jiu clearly wasn’t at the point where they could hang out together.
But when Yang Jiu looked at her like that, she found it hard to refuse.
While she was lost in thought, Yang Jiu suddenly turned, lowered her voice, and said, “I haven’t watched a movie since we graduated.”
Yang Jiu sounded quite happy, her voice carrying a smile as she spoke.
Shu Nanxuan hadn’t watched a movie in years either, so walking into the theater earlier felt a bit surreal.
Without that person to watch movies with, she seemed to lose the desire to watch them.
In the dim light, Shu Nanxuan looked at Yang Jiu’s turned face.
Amid the noisy previews before the movie started, Shu Nanxuan responded to Yang Jiu’s words.
“Me too.”
