Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 40
Time passed especially quickly in the midst of a busy life.
When the date for the senior thesis defense was set, Shu Nanxuan finally finalized the last draft of her paper.
That day was a Sunday, and Yang Jiu didn’t go to the law firm that overworked its interns to death.
Instead, she accompanied Shu Nanxuan in the library.
After Shu Nanxuan checked that her paper’s format had no issues, she stretched lazily and closed her laptop screen.
“Yang Jiu…”
She lazily sprawled on the table, turning her head to look at Yang Jiu, who was still engrossed in a book.
She tugged at the hem of Yang Jiu’s shirt to get her attention. “How about we go out to have fun this afternoon?”
Ever since she started her internship, Yang Jiu’s clothing style has become more and more formal.
Her old short-sleeved shirts were replaced by all sorts of dress shirts, and her aura seemed to change along with her clothes.
But Shu Nanxuan had to admit, she found it very attractive.
Even though neither of them had to worry about their graduate school plans, Shu Nanxuan’s dual-major thesis and Yang Jiu’s law firm internship kept them both insanely busy every day.
It had been a long time since they went out to have fun.
The last time they went out specifically to have fun was at the start of the school year.
Yang Jiu pushed up her glasses, grabbed the hand tugging at her clothes, and gently squeezed it.
It was soft and comfortable.
She asked Shu Nanxuan, “Finished your paper?”
“Finished. It should be fine,” Shu Nanxuan said, quietly scooting closer to her.
She swung her arms playfully, acting cute with Yang Jiu.
“Come on, I’m so tired. We haven’t had a date in forever.”
Yang Jiu felt half her body melt under the charm of such cuteness. Who could resist that? “Alright, alright. Let’s go back to drop off our stuff, then go have fun?”
Shu Nanxuan nodded with a bright smile.
“Okay, let’s go now.”
They packed up their things, held hands, and strolled back home to drop off their stuff.
On campus, some people were already taking graduation photos.
Groups of girls, dressed in matching outfits, posed in various ways on the grass.
“Yang Jiu, time passes so fast. It’s already been four years,” Shu Nanxuan said with a melancholic tone as they passed the school’s largest academic building.
“Yeah, so fast.”
“I don’t even know if I’ll see our classmates again after this.”
Yang Jiu nodded.
“Finance and law are small circles. As long as you don’t switch careers, you’ll probably run into them again. Don’t worry.”
Shu Nanxuan didn’t say anything.
She knew the logic—after all, their school was one of the best in the country, and the small circle of professionals would likely know each other.
But she still felt different from the others.
The graduation season always carried a sense of melancholy.
As they walked, Shu Nanxuan’s mood grew low.
Noticing her silence, Yang Jiu turned to look at her and saw that the excitement Shu Nanxuan had earlier about going out to have fun had faded.
“It’s okay. At least you still have me with you,” she said, patting Shu Nanxuan’s head.
The promise from the person beside her lifted her spirits a bit.
Right, her girlfriend would always be with her.
“Yang Jiu…” Shu Nanxuan stopped walking and looked at Yang Jiu.
Yang Jiu stopped too, turning to face her.
The late May weather wasn’t too hot. It was just past four in the afternoon, with a gentle breeze blowing.
She watched Shu Nanxuan’s stray hairs flutter and said, “What’s up?”
Shu Nanxuan looked steadily at Yang Jiu’s face.
“I want to kiss you.”
Without waiting for Yang Jiu’s reaction, she leaned in and kissed her.
It was just a light, fleeting kiss, but it still made Yang Jiu blush.
“There are so many people around…”
Shu Nanxuan smiled.
“I like you. I don’t care what others think.”
Yang Jiu’s face stayed red, and she didn’t say anything.
“Yang Jiu, you have to stay with me forever. We’ll go to grad school together too.”
