Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 44
Yang Jiu lowered her head, her voice so soft that if the suite’s soundproofing wasn’t exceptionally good, Shu Nanxuan might not have heard her at all.
But Shu Nanxuan was determined to pull out that thorn.
Yang Jiu’s show of weakness meant nothing to her—she didn’t even glance at Yang Jiu.
The alcohol slowly took effect, numbing her nerves as it should.
Yang Jiu’s voice was hoarse.
“Nanxuan, if I tell you, please don’t get angry, okay?”
“Speak first.”
Shu Nanxuan’s tone was ice-cold, without a trace of warmth, chilling Yang Jiu to the core.
Yang Jiu stood there, at a loss, unable to utter a single word.
Even her first time in court hadn’t left her this speechless.
The years of inferiority buried in her heart were still so hard to confess to Shu Nanxuan, leaving her unsure where to begin.
“Yang Jiu, the two minutes are long gone.”
Shu Nanxuan’s emotionless voice rang out again. She felt her temples throbbing, and Yang Jiu was truly infuriating.
“I don’t have the patience to keep waiting for you.”
Yang Jiu panicked and grabbed Shu Nanxuan’s wrist.
“I’ll talk, I’ll talk.”
“Nanxuan, you’re too perfect.”
Yang Jiu looked into Shu Nanxuan’s eyes, her own filled with tears, making it hard to discern her emotions.
“I wanted to become someone worthy of you sooner.”
“If I went to grad school for those three years, I’d still just be a student. But at the law firm, in three years, I could climb higher.”
“Nanxuan, I couldn’t bring myself to show you my inferiority and cowardice. I couldn’t bear to appear weak in front of you.”
A tear slid from the corner of Yang Jiu’s eye, leaving a trail of moisture.
“Even now, being honest with you is so hard. Back then, I couldn’t do it at all.”
“Nanxuan, the thing I regret most in my life is giving you up for the sake of my pathetic pride. I was so stupid.”
“I thought leaving without a word was the last shred of dignity I could keep for myself. Only now do I realize how much of a jerk that made me.”
“Nanxuan, I know I did something incredibly stupid. You can punish me however you want, but please, I beg you, don’t leave me, okay?”
Shu Nanxuan didn’t know whether to be angry or laugh.
She wasn’t unaware of Yang Jiu’s inferiority, but she never imagined that this was the ultimate reason for their breakup.
“Are you done?” Her voice was even colder than before, almost devoid of any warmth.
“I’m done. Nanxuan, please don’t be angry, okay?”
Shu Nanxuan thought Yang Jiu’s words were practically nonsense.
No one could hear a breakup reason like that and not get angry.
Yang Jiu was an idiot back then, and she still is now.
“Tell me, how am I supposed to not be angry?”
Shu Nanxuan shot back.
Shu Nanxuan’s attitude was so cold that fear consumed Yang Jiu’s entire emotional space. The alcohol had fully hit her.
She took two steps forward and pulled Shu Nanxuan into a tight embrace.
“Nanxuan, please forgive me, okay? Punish me however you want, just don’t ignore me.”
Tears fell in large drops from her eyes, landing on Shu Nanxuan’s neck.
Shu Nanxuan didn’t even bother to struggle, only saying in a cold, flat tone, “Let go of me.”
The fear intensified. Yang Jiu threw away all her pride, clinging tightly to Shu Nanxuan while murmuring softly, “Nanxuan… please… Nanxuan… please… don’t…”
“Yang Jiu, I thought of so many reasons why you left. I even wondered if you had some terminal illness. I came up with so many excuses to convince myself, but in reality?”
Shu Nanxuan paused, as if reluctant to say more, but she still spoke her final words.
“What kind of person am I, Shu Nanxuan, in your heart? Was our relationship really that fragile?”
