Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 47
Shu Nanxuan turned on the living room light, so the balcony wasn’t brightly lit.
The suite was large enough that when Yang Jiu opened the door, she saw Shu Nanxuan standing on the balcony, her back to the living room, partially shrouded by the darkness.
Yang Jiu lowered her head, cautiously closed the door, gently set down her bag, and slowly walked over.
Even knowing she might be rebuffed, Yang Jiu stood behind Shu Nanxuan and greeted her, “Nanxuan, I’m back.”
To her surprise, Shu Nanxuan didn’t completely ignore her this time.
Instead, she responded, though it was just a simple “mm.”
“Well…” Yang Jiu was still hesitating over what to say, but Shu Nanxuan cut her off.
“Yang Jiu, do you think you’re worthy of me now?” Shu Nanxuan said, her back still turned.
In the past, Yang Jiu felt inferior and unworthy of her. What about now?
The class divisions in society were far harsher than in school.
Back then, despite their differences, they were at least both students on the surface.
But now?
To put it bluntly, their social statuses weren’t even on the same level.
No matter how capable Yang Jiu was, in front of Shu Nanxuan, she was just a high-level worker.
“No,” Yang Jiu answered crisply.
“I’m still not worthy of you.”
“Hah.” As if expecting that answer, Shu Nanxuan let out a laugh.
“Then what are you doing now?”
“You weren’t willing to let go back when we broke up, and now you want to rekindle the beauty of our first love, only to quietly leave me again because you feel unworthy?”
“Yang Jiu, how stupid do you think I am to fall for the same trick twice?”
Unlike last night, when her words carried intense emotional fluctuations, tonight Shu Nanxuan spoke without a trace of inflection.
Yang Jiu was still the same Yang Jiu, unchanged.
Even now, having come back, she was still the same insecure Yang Jiu.
The inferiority that their passionate young love couldn’t overcome back then still couldn’t be overcome now.
Her tone sounded to Yang Jiu like she had already let go, no longer holding any expectations for her.
It felt like this conversation would mark the end of everything between them.
“No, I don’t want to leave you again in this lifetime,” Yang Jiu said, taking a step forward.
Ignoring the possibility of being pushed away, she wrapped Shu Nanxuan in her arms. “Never again in this lifetime.”
“Yang Jiu, if you stay by my side, you’ll always be in pain. For someone like you, can you endure that?”
“Long-term pain is worse than short-term pain. Cutting it off cleanly is better for both of us. Don’t force yourself.”
Yang Jiu didn’t understand what Shu Nanxuan meant by cutting it off cleanly, but her heart was in chaos.
Her usually eloquent mouth couldn’t say a thing.
In the end, between them, Shu Nanxuan was the more outstanding one in every way, even in convincing herself to accept the end of their relationship.
“No, that’s not true,” Yang Jiu denied.
“Even though I’m still not worthy of you, I know that the ones who are worthy of you, you don’t like.”
“As long as you still like me, love doesn’t care about being worthy or not. Marriage does.”
“Even if others think I’m being kept by the boss, I’m willing, as long as I can stay by your side.”
“I spent five years trying to catch up to you, only to realize it was all in vain. Even if I try my whole life, I’ll never catch up to you.”
“Since I can’t catch up, I’ll just accept it—accept that my girlfriend is an exceptional person, accept that I’m just not as good as you.”
“Nanxuan, I…”
Shu Nanxuan raised her arm to cut her off.
“Stop.”
She laughed, exasperated.
“Do you think what you just said was touching? I’m twenty-eight years old. Do you think those words would have any effect on me?”
Yang Jiu was stunned.
“And you say you’ve accepted it calmly? You haven’t,” Shu Nanxuan said, breaking free from Yang Jiu’s embrace.
“If you had truly accepted it, those words last night wouldn’t have needed to be forced out of you. You would’ve said them yourself.”
“Yang Jiu, stop deluding yourself.”
