Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 7
Overtime was almost routine for Shu Nanxuan, but seeing Yang Jiu in the break room on her office floor at nine p.m. surprised her.
Well, running into anyone in the break room on this floor was odd.
Nanhe equipped every floor with a break room, essentially a lounge where employees could grab a coffee and relax during breaks.
She wasn’t an unreasonable boss.
As long as work was done well, slacking off a bit during work hours wasn’t a big issue.
Besides, it wasn’t work hours now.
But what was strange was that the floor below had an identical break room.
Why come up here to make coffee?
When she entered, Yang Jiu had just finished brewing her coffee and turned around.
Seeing Shu Nanxuan, she broke into a wide smile.
“Nanxuan, you haven’t left yet,” she said.
Shu Nanxuan mumbled a vague response.
This was the first time they were alone together outside work since that night.
“Why are you here?” she asked.
She didn’t know why she asked.
Perhaps it felt awkward to be alone with her ex-girlfriend without saying something.
“The coffee downstairs ran out, so I came up to check,” Yang Jiu answered with a smile.
I came up hoping to run into you.
Shu Nanxuan nodded noncommittally.
“The logistics department needs to step up,” she said.
How could the logistics department make such a mistake? That was a poor excuse.
Silence fell between them.
Shu Nanxuan genuinely didn’t know what to talk about with her ex-girlfriend of five years in a late-night break room.
She quickly brewed her coffee and prepared to leave, but Yang Jiu spoke up. “Nanxuan, thank you for that night,” she said.
Shu Nanxuan paused, forced to stop.
She looked at Yang Jiu.
“You’re welcome. I’m your boss, after all.
It wouldn’t be good for anyone if something happened to you,” she said.
Yang Jiu let out a soft laugh, as if Shu Nanxuan had said something amusing.
Then she continued, “That night, I was drunk. I didn’t do anything to you, did I?” she asked.
The question pulled her memory back to that night—the lingering sensation of hot breath on her neck and the warmth of lips brushing against it.
“No… nothing,” Shu Nanxuan said.
She didn’t want to stay any longer.
The atmosphere between them felt off since that question.
“Good to know,” Yang Jiu said, sounding relieved.
“I’ve been trying to recall if I did anything these past few days. Now I finally have an answer,” she added.
Shu Nanxuan couldn’t stay any longer.
She lifted her leg to walk out, but Yang Jiu stood up from the chair, blocking her path.
To leave the break room, she had to pass Yang Jiu.
“Move,” Shu Nanxuan said.
Yang Jiu stepped closer, narrowing the distance between them.
“Nanxuan, have you thought about what I said?” she asked.
Her heart was conflicted, but the memory of Shu Nanxuan soothing her brow that night gave her the courage to ask again.
Shu Nanxuan, standing at 1.7 meters, was slightly shorter than Yang Jiu.
At such close range, she had to tilt her head up slightly.
“What?” she asked.
She knew what Yang Jiu meant but asked anyway, hoping to dodge the topic.
Yang Jiu took her hand, squeezing her fingers in her palm.
“You know what I mean. But if you want me to say it again, I will,” she said.
“Can we be together again?” she asked.
