Ex-Girlfriend Strategy (GL) - Chapter 9
The conversation ended unhappily.
Yang Jiu silently finished her coffee in the break room before slowly heading downstairs.
The fire escape was eerily quiet.
In the pitch-black environment, only the exit sign glowed faintly green.
Yang Jiu adjusted to the darkness for a moment before vaguely seeing the steps beneath her feet.
She held the stair railing with one hand and walked down slowly.
The situation was worse than she thought.
Shu Nanxuan didn’t deny the engagement rumor but didn’t confirm it either.
The weight in Yang Jiu’s heart not only remained but grew heavier, like a stone pressing down.
Moreover, Shu Nanxuan’s attitude toward her was far from kind.
Feeling low, she sat in her office for another hour before packing up to leave.
When she went downstairs, she saw Shu Nanxuan’s car was gone, meaning she had already left.
Driving into the underground parking lot, Yang Jiu felt deeply suppressed.
Instead of taking the elevator, she walked out and wandered to the convenience store at the complex entrance.
At this hour, the store was nearly empty.
She went straight to the cooler, picked out a small bottle of vodka, paid, and left.
She didn’t enter the complex.
Sitting at the store’s entrance, she twisted off the cap and took a big gulp in the cool night breeze.
“Phew…”
The burning liquor slid down her throat into her stomach, easing her heart a little.
Shu Nanxuan’s words tonight stabbed her heart, leaving her speechless.
She was the one who let go back then, and now she was the one wanting to return.
She was pathetic, unable to let go of Shu Nanxuan.
But Shu Nanxuan wasn’t like that.
She had countless choices—plenty of talented young people waiting for her to pick.
What was Yang Jiu in comparison?
Tilting her head back, she took another swig.
The sharp sting reddened her eyes.
She blinked, pushing back the heat.
For five years, not a single day passed without her thinking about working harder, pushing herself to catch up to Shu Nanxuan, to stand by her side.
But it still wasn’t enough.
Though she was outstanding compared to most, she was still too weak to stand beside Shu Nanxuan.
She finished the bottle quickly.
Drinking too fast made her dizzy.
The woman in a high-end suit stood up from the steps, disregarding her image, shook her head, and walked into the complex.
Her building wasn’t far from the entrance—just a three-minute walk.
She tossed the empty bottle into the trash, making a loud clank.
Walking with her head down, she noticed a shadow stretched by the streetlight.
Looking up, she saw Shu Nanxuan in pajamas, carrying trash.
Her first thought was, “Shu herself is taking out the trash?”
Shu Nanxuan’s face darkened at her words.
Why was this woman drunk again?
She seemed fine earlier.
She didn’t want to deal with her.
Shu Nanxuan walked past Yang Jiu and tossed the trash into the bin.
As she headed back, Yang Jiu followed her into the elevator.
In the late-night elevator, it was just the two of them.
Perhaps emboldened by the alcohol, Yang Jiu grabbed Shu Nanxuan’s wrist and pressed her against the elevator wall.
“You still haven’t answered me. Is the engagement real?”
She was too close.
The mix of liquor and perfume hit Shu Nanxuan, intoxicatingly pleasant.
But now wasn’t the time to notice scents.
Shu Nanxuan pushed against Yang Jiu’s shoulder but couldn’t break free.
“Yang Jiu, don’t act crazy at this hour,” she said.
Yang Jiu laughed.
“This is acting crazy?”
Before Shu Nanxuan could react, the elevator doors opened.
Yang Jiu held Shu Nanxuan and stepped out and pinned her against the wall again.
She gripped Shu Nanxuan’s hands, pressed them to the wall, stared at her for two seconds in the dark, and kissed her.
