Failed to Pretend to Be an Alpha and Got Marked by the Enemy (ABO, GL) - Chapter 70
Chapter 70
A gentle kiss, paired with words that softened her heart, convinced Yu Jing just like that.
The room was stuffy and hot. Ming Zhu’s gaze made her feel even hotter. Blushing, Yu Jing pushed her away and changed the subject. “It’s so hot. Let’s turn on the air conditioner.”
Ming Zhu found the remote on the TV cabinet, turned it on, set the temperature, and led her shy girlfriend to explore the rest of the place.
Except for different furniture, the apartment’s layout was identical to Yu Jing and Xiao Ye’s: one living room, one bathroom, one kitchen, and two bedrooms, one large and one small. Yu Jing wanted to see the master bedroom first. At the door, she suddenly remembered something. “Didn’t the landlord forbid pets? You’re moving in, so what about the cat?”
Ming Zhu raised an eyebrow, answering indirectly. “How did you know the landlord doesn’t allow pets?”
“…” Yu Jing realized she’d slipped up, her expression uneasy, but she didn’t hide it. “You said the other place was too far from me, so I searched nearby listings on a rental app. I found this one, and it said no pets.”
Ming Zhu instantly understood, her eyes brimming with amusement—seven parts delight, three parts teasing. “So, you really wanted me to move here too.”
Yu Jing felt embarrassed, as if her thoughts were exposed. Her eyes darted away, and she stammered, “I didn’t expect it’d be such a coincidence that this place was for rent. I was pretty happy when I saw it, but then I noticed the no-pet rule, so I didn’t tell you… Does the landlord know about your cat?” The question circled back.
“They know.” Ming Zhu said casually, “The listing did say no pets, but I offered double the rent, and the landlord agreed. Zhou Qi will bring the cat over tomorrow.”
Yu Jing’s eyes widened. “You paid double the rent for this place?!”
“Yes.” Ming Zhu remained calm.
Yu Jing gasped. “Are you foolishly rich?”
Facing her blunt jab, Ming Zhu didn’t get upset but laughed. “It’s actually a good deal.”
“A good deal, my ass.” Yu Jing blurted out in frustration, pointing at the overly simple apartment, feeling pained for the money Ming Zhu wasted. “This tiny, rundown place isn’t worth such high rent. You got scammed!”
“No swearing.” Ming Zhu pinched her cheek as punishment, speaking unhurriedly. “The place we looked at before had rent over three times this one’s, so in comparison, I actually saved money.”
Yu Jing’s lips moved, but she gave up. “I can’t argue with you.”
The contract was signed, the money paid—arguing was pointless.
Ming Zhu pushed open the master bedroom door. Stifling heat enveloped the room like a steamer. She found the remote, turned on the air conditioner, and the fan whirred, but it wasn’t cool. Even at the lowest setting, it made no difference.
Yu Jing came over to investigate with her.
Both were clueless about appliances. After fiddling for a while, sweating profusely, they gave up on the likely broken air conditioner and moved to the second bedroom.
The second bedroom’s air conditioner worked, but the room was completely empty, not a single piece of furniture.
Yu Jing waved away the dust in the air, turned her head, and said with a sarcastic smile to her “foolishly rich” girlfriend, “Didn’t even check before signing, huh? Scammed now, right?”
The master bedroom’s air conditioner was broken, the second bedroom had no bed, and the living room sofa was pitifully small. Where would Ming Zhu sleep tonight? She’d just checked out of her hotel, rushed over with her suitcase, and ended up with this.
Ming Zhu had no comeback, knowing she was at fault. She pulled a pack of tissues from her pocket, took one, and wiped the sweat from Yu Jing’s forehead with a hint of flattery. “Since I got scammed, can you kindly let me stay with you for one night?”
“…” Yu Jing felt Ming Zhu resembled a lost poodle, noble yet pitiful. Who could refuse that?
They left the awful apartment.
At the opposite door, Yu Jing patted her pockets, realizing she’d rushed out without her key or phone. She knocked.
Xiao Ye opened the door, saw Ming Zhu holding Yu Jing’s hand and her suitcase, and said in surprise, “Sister Ming Zhu, are you moving in with Jingjing?”
Yu Jing’s heart skipped. She glanced at Ming Zhu, quickly denying, “No! Don’t talk nonsense.” Without pausing, she explained that Ming Zhu rented the place across but needed to stay over one night due to the broken air conditioner.
Xiao Ye grinned mischievously after hearing it. “I get it, I get it. I’ll plug my ears tonight to make sure I don’t overhear anything.”
Plug her ears? They weren’t going to do anything outrageous!
Yu Jing felt like she was burning up. She playfully twisted Xiao Ye’s arm and said, “Hurry up and clean your doghouse. I’m sleeping with you tonight.”
“Why sleep with me? My room is worse than yours… Ouch!” Xiao Ye yelped under Yu Jing’s glare, swallowed her words, and retreated to tidy her room.
Yu Jing exhaled, scratched her slightly flushed face, turned to Ming Zhu, and emphasized, “You’re sleeping in my room tonight.”
Ming Zhu’s expression was unreadable. She didn’t say yes or no, glanced at Xiao Ye tidying her room, leaned close, and whispered in Yu Jing’s ear, “Is that what you thought before?”
Before…
When Ming Zhu asked to stay, Yu Jing’s mind hadn’t wandered. She instinctively assumed they’d share a bed tonight. But after Xiao Ye’s teasing, she changed her mind.
She couldn’t let Ming Zhu think she was too casual or unreserved.
Yu Jing’s fingers casually played with her hair, and she said nonchalantly, “That’s what I thought. You’re the guest, so of course I’ll give you the big room.”
Ming Zhu watched her quietly for a moment, saw no hints, didn’t press the topic, tugged her messy bun, and smiled. “My girlfriend is so generous.”
Yu Jing felt a bit guilty from the praise.
Couples needed to maintain their image.
Yu Jing slipped back to her room, cleared the random stuff off her bed, and spent some time cleaning. When it looked tidy enough, she opened the door and invited Ming Zhu in. “It’s ready.”
It wasn’t Ming Zhu’s first time in her bedroom, but last time was urgent, and she hadn’t looked closely. Yu Jing’s room wasn’t as girly as expected. The colors weren’t uniform—dark blackout curtains, a fluffy gray-white rug, and warm-toned bedding.
Ming Zhu focused on the new bedsheet. The lotus-pink sheet was neat, printed with small white flowers, the excess fabric swaying slightly from the air conditioner, a faint fragrance in the air.
Her gaze returned to Yu Jing’s face. “Why’d you change the sheet?”
Yu Jing answered without thinking. “Don’t you have a cleanliness thing? I was afraid you wouldn’t be comfortable, so I put on a new one. I washed it a few days ago. It’s clean.”
In Bishui Town, when they shared a room, Yu Jing saw Ming Zhu replace the hotel’s sheet with her own that first night, so she thoughtfully did the same now.
Ming Zhu paused, then explained, “Hotel sheets feel dirty because strangers used them. But you’re my girlfriend. How could I mind you?”
Yu Jing put her hands on her hips, pretending to be annoyed. “Why didn’t you say that earlier? I already changed it!”
Ming Zhu chuckled, glanced at the old sheet draped over a chair, her smile faded, her expression shifted, and her voice lowered. “I thought you changed it because we dirtied it last night.”
Last night… dirtied… The light words conjured up those indescribable scenes.
Yu Jing caught her implication, her face flushed red, and she weakly shouted, “No!” She grabbed the old sheet and ran out.
She suddenly agreed with Shen Jiayu’s comment about Ming Zhu—hypocritical.
This woman was so hypocritical. She seemed aloof and untouchable, but who’d guess she was a flirt who’d casually drop suggestive lines!
The sky gradually darkened.
Xiao Ye ordered takeout for dinner. Yu Jing and Ming Zhu weren’t very hungry, so they casually ate some fruit salad.
Xiao Ye wolfed down her food and retreated to her room, leaving the living room to them.
The first night after confirming their relationship, during Yu Jing’s heat, Ming Zhu helped with a temporary marking and did some indescribable things. This night, they were surprisingly calm.
So calm, they didn’t even seem like a couple.
On the less-than-two-meter sofa, they sat at opposite ends, a large gap between them, as if reserving space for someone else.
The TV played ‘Youth Training Camp’. Yu Jing pulled up an unfinished episode to watch with Ming Zhu. The contestants sang and danced lively.
It wasn’t clear who moved first, but as they watched, they inched closer, the gap shrinking to zero. Yu Jing’s back settled into Ming Zhu’s embrace.
Couples should watch while cuddling.
Unlike on the train, with no strangers around, they didn’t do anything more intimate, instead acting cautiously, both staring at the screen as if deeply engrossed.
Yu Jing, nestled in Ming Zhu’s arms, felt an unusual softness, her heart pounding fast. With a notebook on her lap and a pen in hand, she pretended to be a diligent student, but wrote nothing.
Her body was stiff, afraid any movement would touch somewhere inappropriate. Distracted, she closed the notebook.
The slight noise drew Ming Zhu’s gaze.
Meeting her questioning look, Yu Jing’s fingers fidgeted with the notebook’s edge, her lips slightly dry. Grasping for something to say, she asked, “Do you think it’s good?”
As an actress, Ming Zhu wasn’t very interested in singing and dancing but didn’t want Yu Jing to find her boring. She considered and said, “It’s okay. Pretty interesting.”
Yu Jing was surprised she was into it and followed up. “Who do you think is the center in this group?”
Onscreen, a group of trainees underwent a spot assessment by three teachers. After, the teachers would assign positions for the next performance based on their performance, with the best trainee as the temporary center.
An earlier segment showed the group’s training, but Ming Zhu hadn’t paid close attention. The five members wore identical outfits, their faces and builds similar to her. Singing and dancing, they switched positions dizzyingly, and Ming Zhu couldn’t tell them apart.
The question stumped her. She hesitated, not wanting Yu Jing to think she was brushing it off. After watching closely, she caught a name and guessed, “Zhao Xinyu, maybe.”
Yu Jing’s choice differed. She glanced at the screen, found Zhao Xinyu in the crowd, and was puzzled.
Zhao Xinyu didn’t get much screen time. Her singing lacked breath, her dancing was like a radio exercise. How could Ming Zhu think she’d qualify as the center?
Just because she was cute?
Yu Jing had an idea and focused on Zhao Xinyu—a full oval face, small cherry lips, round almond eyes, and a sweet voice.
Zhao Xinyu was the quintessential petite, sweet Omega that Alphas loved. Though her singing and dancing were average, she had the highest visual appeal in the group, slightly short, delicate, with a C-cup chest. A phrase popped into Yu Jing’s mind: baby-faced, big-breasted. That probably described Zhao Xinyu.
No wonder Ming Zhu picked her out.
So, Ming Zhu liked that type?
Then what did she see in Yu Jing?
Yu Jing glanced down at her less-than-impressive chest, compared it to Zhao Xinyu’s eye-catching C-cups, and suddenly felt less confident.
Ming Zhu was still trying to distinguish the five frequently switching trainees, her long eyes wide, her perfect jawline taut, her focused look interpreted differently by Yu Jing.
Yu Jing thought Ming Zhu was smitten with Zhao Xinyu.
Was she that captivating? Ming Zhu didn’t even blink.
Getting jealous over a stranger wasn’t worth it, but Yu Jing couldn’t stop the sourness in her heart. Like a cat upset at being ignored by its owner, she tugged at Ming Zhu’s fingers on her shoulder, trying to draw her attention.
Ming Zhu’s eyes were strained. She looked down at her pouting girlfriend, about to ask if her guess was right.
Yu Jing spoke first. “Do you think my chest is small?”
Ming Zhu almost thought she misheard, stunned as she looked at Yu Jing’s chest.
Her round-neck loungewear hid her alluring collarbone, the loose fit making her frame look petite, her chest slightly raised with two small hills.
Though it was hard to gauge her figure like this, Ming Zhu recalled last night’s sensation. Her throat felt dry, her eyes reluctant to move away.
Yu Jing was anxious, forgetting her shyness. Seeing Ming Zhu just staring at her chest without answering, her silence made Yu Jing even less confident. She grabbed a nearby pillow to cover herself, but Ming Zhu stopped her.
Ming Zhu tightened her hold from behind, her chin brushing Yu Jing’s slim shoulder, her slender fingers hooking the hem of her loungewear. A low chuckle mixed with warm breath grazed her ear. “Not small. It’s just right.”
Hearing this, Yu Jing regained some confidence.
“And,” Ming Zhu tilted her head, lightly nibbling her twitching earlobe, her warm breath sinking into her heart, “it feels great. I love it.”
