Failed to Pretend to Be an Alpha and Got Marked by the Enemy (ABO, GL) - Chapter 72
Chapter 72
Ming Zhu took thirty-five seconds from entering the bedroom to coming out.
What could anyone talk about in such a short time?
Yu Jing caught a glimpse from the corner of her eye but pretended not to notice. She casually put down her phone and absentmindedly stroked Xiao Bai, who was lying on her lap. She kept her eyes fixed on the television.
The sofa beside her sank, and a cool fragrance wafted over.
Ming Zhu sat down right next to her, her shoulder brushing against Yu Jing’s. She placed her phone on the table with a natural movement.
Yu Jing’s eyes couldn’t help but glance downward. She stared at the phone screen facing up and fell into thought.
Ming Zhu dodged her to take a call, as if hiding something. Yet, she placed her phone openly in front of Yu Jing, seeming perfectly candid. The contradiction puzzled her.
What was their relationship? This question rolled in Yu Jing’s mind several times. Each time it reached her lips, she swallowed it back.
She admitted she was curious but couldn’t bring herself to ask. She waited for Ming Zhu to explain voluntarily, but Ming Zhu acted as if the call was unimportant. She put down her phone and said nothing.
With the phone left like that, what if that Lin Yi called again or sent a message? Wouldn’t Yu Jing see it?
Yu Jing’s heart tangled with confusion. She couldn’t figure out Ming Zhu’s intentions.
If Ming Zhu wasn’t afraid of her seeing, why did she hide in the first place?
“Ding-dong—”
As if on cue, Ming Zhu’s phone lit up again.
Yu Jing’s heart skipped a beat.
Was it Lin Yi again?
Unable to care if her curiosity showed, Yu Jing widened her eyes and stared. The screen flashed with the name “Yang Ming.”
…Director Yang?
Yu Jing looked at Ming Zhu in confusion.
Ming Zhu picked up the phone unhurriedly, unlocked it in front of her, and opened the message.
Yang Ming: “Are you really not reconsidering?”
It wasn’t polite to read someone else’s conversation, but Ming Zhu didn’t mind her seeing. Yu Jing accidentally glimpsed Ming Zhu’s previous reply to Yang Ming and couldn’t look away.
MZ: “Sorry, I don’t find it interesting. I won’t record anymore.”
Yu Jing was still dazed when she saw Ming Zhu type a response to Yang Ming’s latest message. MZ: “Not reconsidering. Find someone else.”
Only when Ming Zhu closed the chat window did Yu Jing react, albeit slowly. She sat up straight, her movement startling Xiao Bai, who was dozing on her lap. The little cat meowed, its glassy eyes darting between their faces.
Yu Jing looked down at the startled cat, petted it soothingly a few times, then looked up at Ming Zhu. “You’re not recording ‘Treasure Hunt’ anymore?”
Since Yu Jing saw the message, Ming Zhu didn’t plan to hide it. She nodded lightly.
Yu Jing was stunned and then asked, “Is it because of me?”
Though asking this seemed narcissistic, Yu Jing couldn’t think of another reason.
Ming Zhu smiled and said frankly, “Half of it, I suppose.”
What did half mean? Yu Jing looked puzzled.
Ming Zhu put the phone back in place, looked at her, and said seriously, “Do you remember I said before that I joined this show to return a favor to Old Yang?”
Yu Jing nodded.
“Recording a reality show wasn’t my intention. You saw my performance in the first episode—I didn’t even want to play the games.” As if recalling something amusing, Ming Zhu’s smile widened. She reached out to touch Yu Jing’s face and continued softly, “I was just filling in. I could’ve left after the second episode, but I stayed for more chances to be close to you.”
“Without you in the show, I have no reason to keep recording. So, don’t feel any burden.”
Yu Jing had heard similar words when Ming Zhu confessed to her. She guessed the reason but was still shocked by Ming Zhu’s decision. Her mouth opened, unsure of what to say.
Ming Zhu stretched out her arm, pulled her into an embrace, and playfully scraped her slightly dazed face. She teased, “With only one half of the Ming-Yu CP, if the production team pairs me with another sweet Omega for a CP, wouldn’t my girlfriend get jealous?”
Yu Jing’s mind instantly flashed with comments their CP fans loved to spam: “Ming-Yu is real,” “So sweet, Ming-Yu is locked,” “Ming-Yu is so perfect, please get married now”…
If the “Yu” were replaced with someone else, she really couldn’t stand it.
Yu Jing didn’t know when she became so jealous. Ming Zhu hit the mark, and her face flushed slightly. She stopped dwelling on the show and thought of the earlier incident, feeling only guilt.
Ming Zhu gave up the show for her. Wasn’t that enough to prove her feelings? Yet Yu Jing doubted her over a call lasting less than half a minute.
During the two days recording “Happy Star” in City A, Ming Zhu was harassed by Liang Tian. To clear things up, she showed Yu Jing the chat logs and blocked Liang Tian in front of her. Ming Zhu wouldn’t bother with ambiguity, let alone play both sides.
Yu Jing felt her brain must be broken to doubt Ming唐三
It was just a call. Maybe Ming Zhu simply found the TV drama too loud and went to the bedroom.
Besides, she didn’t even know if this Lin Yi was an Omega. What was there to be jealous about?
Yu Jing felt ashamed of her pettiness, bit her lip, and her eyes wavered. She adjusted her emotions and asked, “You’re not recording the show… What are your plans now?”
Even if Ming Zhu hadn’t said it, Yu Jing could tell she disliked variety shows and wasn’t happy recording. It was better not to.
The cat dozed quietly on her lap. Yu Jing played with it, while Ming Zhu played with her hair, her voice relaxed and lazy. “Tomorrow, I’ll visit Old Yang. He mentioned a script he wants me to try.”
Ming Zhu was an actor by profession, and Yu Jing thought acting suited her better. Her eyes lit up, shifting to a new topic. “Is filming fun?”
Ming Zhu pondered for a moment and said, “Playing different roles and experiencing different lives is quite interesting.”
Filming was an area Yu Jing knew little about. Her interest sparked, and she asked Ming Zhu to tell her more. Ming Zhu happily shared, pulling her into an embrace and speaking softly.
The TV’s sound mixed with Ming Zhu’s voice. Yu Jing nestled in her arms, listening to her filming experiences like stories, forgetting Zhao Xinyu and Lin Yi entirely.
They chatted until ten. The cat fell asleep again.
“Shh—” Yu Jing raised a finger to signal Ming Zhu to stop, afraid of waking the little one.
Ming Zhu fell silent.
Yu Jing gently carried Xiao Bai to its bed. The cat was snoring in its sleep, and she found it adorable, whispering to Ming Zhu, “It’s so cute.”
Ming Zhu saw her doting on the cat more than on her and frowned, pulling her up. “You like it that much?”
Yu Jing nodded eagerly. Who wouldn’t love such a cute kitten?
She wanted to pet it again, but Ming Zhu held her waist, stopping her, and turned her face away from the cat.
“What?” Yu Jing was confused by the handling.
Ming Zhu’s actions were a bit forceful, her face stern as if displeased, but her tone carried a hint of grievance. “You spent more time holding it tonight than me.”
Yu Jing’s neck couldn’t move. Meeting Ming Zhu’s slightly pleading eyes, she was stunned and said, “You’re jealous of a cat???”
Ming Zhu didn’t respond, half-dragging, half-carrying her out of the cat room, closing the door, pinning her against the wall, and placing her hands on her waist. She threatened, “Hug me enough, or you’re not leaving.”
“…”
In terms of childishness and jealousy, Yu Jing realized she lost.
They lingered for a long time before Yu Jing gained freedom to return to her own place.
She did nothing today, but such days felt fulfilling.
Happily, she showered, said goodnight to her girlfriend on the phone, and fell asleep with sweet dreams.
The hickey on her neck hadn’t faded, so Yu Jing couldn’t go to the company.
Early in the morning, Ming Zhu called her over for a lovingly prepared breakfast. They ate slowly, and afterward, Ming Zhu had to leave to meet Yang Fan.
Before leaving, Ming Zhu kissed her forehead and said, “I’ll bring back something delicious.”
Yu Jing saw her off and stayed home, watching videos while waiting.
But instead of Ming Zhu, she saw a shocking trending topic first.
#Ming Zhu’s Romance Exposed#
Yu Jing jumped up from the sofa.
Xiao Bai, sleeping nearby, was startled awake, but she had no mind to care. Staring at the topic, her heart raced.
No way, no way. They’d only been dating a few days. Exposed so soon?
Yu Jing took a deep breath and nervously clicked the topic—
Only to see intimate photos of Ming Zhu with another woman.
