Failed to Pretend to Be an Alpha and Got Marked by the Enemy (ABO, GL) - Chapter 74
Chapter 74
Zhou Qi sent another message, which was a screenshot of her chat with Yu Jing.
Yu Jing said, “Sister Zhou Qi, do you know Lin Yi?”
Zhou Qi replied, “I know her, what’s up?”
Yu Jing asked, “Is she Sister Ming Zhu’s friend?”
Zhou Qi responded, “Well… didn’t Ming Zhu tell you?”
Yu Jing answered, “No.”
Zhou Qi suggested, “Then you should ask her yourself.”
Ming Zhu finished reading the content and felt a jolt in her heart.
Yu Jing was probing Zhou Qi, probably because of that trending topic, suspecting something between her and Lin Yi.
Ming Zhu opened the pinned list and clicked on Yu Jing’s profile picture. Her fingers typed a few words, hesitated, and then deleted them.
A few words couldn’t explain it clearly, so she decided to explain in person later.
Ming Zhu walked to the parking lot and found her car. Before opening the car door, she first observed the surroundings.
This private hospital charged high fees, so business wasn’t great. The parking lot wasn’t even half full, and she could see everything at a glance. She didn’t notice any suspicious people.
No paparazzi followed her or secretly photographed her with Lin Yi. It was probably just some bored passersby.
Ming Zhu放心地 got into the car.
The white Bentley slowly left the parking lot. At the entrance, it passed by a black Mercedes.
The secretary steering the wheel lost focus, mistaking the accelerator for the brake. She accidentally pressed it, and the car shot forward, jolting violently over a speed bump.
Lin Jianye, who was resting with his eyes closed in the back seat, was jolted awake. The man, stern and unsmiling, was past middle age but still had a striking presence and appearance. Like a lazy lion, he lifted his eyelids and shot a cold glare, saying, “How do you drive?”
The secretary hurriedly apologized, meeting Lin Jianye’s gaze through the rearview mirror. Intimidated by the man’s authority, she looked away in less than a second.
Lin Jianye, sharp as ever, caught the hesitation in her eyes with a single glance. Rubbing his brow, he asked, “What’s the matter?”
“Mr. Lin… Chairman Lin…” The secretary stammered, secretly wiping the cold sweat from her palms onto her pants. Through the rearview mirror, she could vaguely see the tail of the white Bentley. “The car that just passed by seemed to belong to Miss Lin Zhu.”
The man in the back seat lost all laziness. He instinctively wanted to look back, turning halfway, but as if mindful of something, he stiffened and turned back.
His beast-like sharp eyes flashed with an unreadable emotion. Lin Jianye leaned back in the seat, closed his eyes, and his thin lips moved slightly.
His voice was too low, and the secretary didn’t hear what he said, nor did she dare ask.
Seeing her boss so indifferent, the secretary couldn’t help but recall a rumor about the wealthy family.
It was said that Lin Jianye had an illegitimate daughter named Lin Zhu. Her parents had cut ties many years ago for some reason. This unpopular young lady was kicked out by her biological father, left without a penny, and even stripped of her surname.
Hearing his daughter’s name and remaining so unmoved, the secretary wondered if this young lady was really his biological child.
The roadside scenery sped by.
The black Mercedes disappeared from view. Ming Zhu didn’t slow down but drove faster and faster.
Lin Jianye’s secretary saw her, and she naturally saw the secretary and recognized the car.
She didn’t see the person in the back seat, but Ming Zhu could imagine their posture. Her calm heart stirred slightly, and the heavy air seeped in, making her inexplicably irritable.
She lowered the car window to get some air, but hot air rushed in. Not only did it fail to relieve her, but it made her feel even more restless.
At first, Ming Zhu thought it was because of Lin Jianye. But as time passed, she realized this irritable emotion was completely out of her control.
The air conditioning was already set to the lowest temperature, yet her body felt like it held a furnace. Her skin gradually burned, and the pheromones inside her stirred restlessly.
Realizing something was wrong, Ming Zhu sped up, rushing to return to Xinhu Community before losing control of her senses.
Her hands trembled as she took the key from her bag, inserted it into the lock, and turned it.
In the evening, the small room was dimly lit, with cool air flowing. Yet Ming Zhu only felt heat.
She thought the room was empty and didn’t bother turning on the light. Groping along the wall, she walked inside. Suddenly, she heard a “Meow!”
Little White, curled up on the sofa, keenly sensed its owner’s presence. It stretched its head and cheerfully called out toward the figure at the entrance, waking Yu Jing, who was dozing with her head propped up.
Yu Jing had waited a long time for Ming Zhu’s reply but got none. Unable to stay calm, she probed Zhou Qi, receiving a vague answer that left her more confused. Caught in self-blame and uneasy suspicion, she had fallen asleep and had a bizarre dream.
In the dream, Ming Zhu was hugging another girl. Yu Jing rushed over, pulled them apart, and loudly questioned Ming Zhu, “Why are you hugging her? Who is she to you?”
Ming Zhu gently looked at the girl, smiled, and said to Yu Jing, “I forgot to introduce her. Her name is Lin Yi, my ex-girlfriend.”
The ex and the current girlfriend fought, but before the outcome was clear, the dream ended.
When Yu Jing opened her eyes, she felt disoriented, unsure of where she was. Following Little White’s gaze, she saw the tall figure standing at the entrance. Her sleepiness vanished, and she ran over without even putting on shoes.
She moved quickly, but two meters away, she met Ming Zhu’s fiery gaze and stopped.
Why did Ming Zhu’s emotions seem off?
It felt like she was angry, yet not quite.
The light was too dim for Yu Jing to tell. Thinking of how she secretly asked Zhou Qi about Ming Zhu’s privacy, she felt guilty first. Her toes curled, and she broke the silence, asking, “Is your grandfather okay?”
Ming Zhu didn’t expect her to still be there. Her expression froze, and fearing Yu Jing might notice something, she sank into the shadows. Her voice was soft as she said, “He sprained his ankle, but it’s not a big deal.”
“That’s good.” Yu Jing forced a smile and stepped forward, wanting to ask if Ming Zhu had anything to confess. Before she could speak, Ming Zhu stepped back.
Ming Zhu’s hand touched the doorknob. Suppressing her inner restlessness, she said, “Jingjing, I’m a bit tired today. Can we talk about anything tomorrow?”
“Click—” As she spoke, Ming Zhu opened the door. She stood sideways, clearly ready to see her guest out.
Yu Jing was stunned. She looked at the open door and Ming Zhu, who was pressed against the wall, avoiding her and clearly refusing to talk. She was completely confused and asked, “What do you mean?”
Seeing her girlfriend hugging a strange woman and making it to the trending list, Yu Jing felt unsettled and anxious. She waited all day, finally seeing Ming Zhu return, but before she could clarify the situation, Ming Zhu was kicking her out?
Why didn’t she explain first? Could there really be some unspeakable secret between Ming Zhu and Lin Yi?
Yu Jing couldn’t hold back anymore. She slammed the door shut with a “bang” and blurted out, “Is Lin Yi really your ex?”
Ming Zhu raised her head, her flushed face full of shock. “No… why would you think that?”
“Then what’s your relationship with her?” Yu Jing lifted her chin slightly, her tone a bit aggressive, her eyes filled with a determination to know the truth.
“I and she…” Ming Zhu stammered. The restraint in her expression was swallowed by the darkness. Her hands, hanging down, clenched into fists. She turned her head away, her tone urgent. “I have nothing with her. Please believe me. Go back now, and I’ll explain another day, okay?”
No way!
If there was nothing, why wait for another day?
Yu Jing felt Ming Zhu was brushing her off. She strode over and said, “You have to explain clearly today.”
“Don’t, don’t come closer.” Ming Zhu dodged her like she was a snake, quickly stepping back.
Yu Jing finally noticed her unusual behavior. She reached out and flipped the wall switch.
Everything was exposed under the light.
The room was cool, but Yu Jing saw Ming Zhu’s pale face covered in sweat, her lips colorless, and her expression grim.
“Sister, what’s wrong with you?” Yu Jing grabbed her hand, startled by the heat of her skin, and quickly held it again, reaching for her forehead. “Are you running a fever?”
Ming Zhu couldn’t stand her touch. She pushed her hand away, her back pressed against the wall, gritting her teeth as she said, “I’m fine. Listen, go over there first.”
Her voice trembled. How could that be fine?
Yu Jing saw sweat dripping from her forehead like rain. She didn’t understand why Ming Zhu was pushing her away at a time like this. Her confusion and frustration turned into worry. “You’re burning up badly. You need to go to the hospital.”
“No need…”
Yu Jing ignored her, disregarding her retreat, and forcefully hugged her, dragging her toward the door.
But she couldn’t move her.
Looking down, she saw Ming Zhu gripping the wall tightly, refusing to go. Yu Jing, exasperated, shouted, “When you’re sick, you go to the hospital. Why are you so stubborn?”
She reached to pry Ming Zhu’s fingers off.
Ming Zhu’s fingers were gripped by her. Seeing Yu Jing so anxious that sweat appeared on her forehead, Ming Zhu sighed softly and said, “You little fool.”
Why was she scolding her when she was sick? Yu Jing glared at her while prying her fingers.
Ming Zhu grabbed her hand back, breathing heavily. Meeting her worried eyes, she said, “I’m not sick, and I don’t have a fever. It’s my susceptible period.”
“S-Susceptible period?!” Yu Jing stuttered, stunned.
“Hmm.” Ming Zhu nodded, struggling to suppress the urge to pull her close. She pushed her away and said, “Don’t come near me right now, got it?”
Yu Jing instinctively stepped back, nodding in a daze.
Like an Omega’s heat, every mature Alpha had a susceptible period. But an Alpha’s susceptible period had no cycle or pattern. No one could predict when it would hit or how often. During this time, Alphas were highly aggressive, sensitive, irritable, and…
During the susceptible period, an Alpha’s desires in that area were particularly strong.
Before differentiation, Yu Jing, who thought she’d be an Alpha, had learned about the symptoms of the susceptible period. She knew it was dangerous for Alphas, but as for how dangerous, she hadn’t experienced it and didn’t know.
The light fell on Ming Zhu’s profile. Yu Jing saw her reddened eyes and the dangerous spark in them. Her heart trembled, and she swallowed hard. Mustering her courage, she said, “Where’s your suppressant? I’ll get it for you.”
Ming Zhu stopped her from walking further. “There’s no suppressant.”
Yu Jing blinked, shocked. “You didn’t prepare in advance?”
Ming Zhu shook her head, her eyes growing hazy. Her body was burning, and her voice was hoarse from enduring too long. “I can’t use chemical blockers or suppressants. I’m allergic.”
Yu Jing suddenly remembered Ming Zhu had indeed mentioned being allergic to certain drugs.
But without suppressants, what could be done? In her panic, she grabbed Ming Zhu.
Ming Zhu’s throat tightened, desire swirling in her eyes. Her voice grew hoarser, laced with a warning. “If you don’t leave, I really won’t be able to hold back.”
