Hearing this, Momo’s pupils contracted slightly. “That’s not true, she’s lying. I’m the real Seer.”
Jiang Ci crossed her arms and continued, “My first check was on Gu Ning—he was indeed a Werewolf. The second check was on you, and you’re also a Werewolf. As for the third check…” She tilted her chin toward Gu Meng. “He’s a Villager.”
Gu Meng nodded along without hesitation, confirming he was indeed a good guy.
But with two people claiming to be the Seer, determining whose identity was genuine and whose checks were reliable came down to pure intuition.
Caught between the two self-proclaimed Seers, Chi Yuan and Gu Meng exchanged bewildered glances.
Gu Meng, fully aware of his limitations, thought: This brain-burning game clearly isn’t suited for someone like me with limited mental capacity.
So he passed the buck to Chi Yuan. “I’ll follow Sister Chi’s vote next round.”
Suddenly put on the spot, Chi Yuan felt her stomach churn. Glancing left at Momo’s pitiful puppy-dog eyes, then right at Jiang Ci’s cold, slightly menacing gaze, she shrank back like a quail, too afraid to speak.
This wasn’t the time to pick sides casually.
“Hard to tell who’s telling the truth,” Jiang Ci propped her head up, looking at Chi Yuan. “Nightfall is coming soon—when the Werewolves kill. If I, the real Seer, get killed, make sure you vote out the actual Werewolf next round.”
A dead Seer wasn’t the end of the world. As long as there were still Villagers alive, victory was assured next round.
“Night falls. Close your eyes. Werewolves, open your eyes and choose your target tonight.”
“Werewolves, close your eyes. Witch, open yours. The person who died last night was—her.”
Chi Yuan nervously opened her eyes to see “Jiang Ci” displayed on the screen and inexplicably sighed in relief.
“You have one antidote. Will you use it?”
Chi Yuan nodded.
“You have one poison. Will you use it?”
She was about to shake her head when she glanced at Momo, whose eyes were still closed.
If Jiang Ci was tonight’s victim, then she must be the real Seer, which meant Momo…
Had to be a Werewolf.
Chi Yuan slowly nodded and pointed at Momo.
“Witch, close your eyes. Seer, open yours. Choose who to check tonight.”
“He is this.”
“Day breaks. Last night’s victim was Momo. Game over.”
“The Werewolf faction wins.”
Chi Yuan, who had just opened her eyes to hear the game was over: ???
She and Gu Meng across from her stared at each other dumbfounded before simultaneously turning to Jiang Ci.
…Had they been tricked?
Momo slumped into her chair in despair, flipping over her “Villager” identity card before slamming it onto the table. “Was it easy pretending to be the Seer? I just wanted to survive till the end!”
She looked at Jiang Ci in confusion. “Why did you choose to kill me? Gu Meng and Chi Yuan are also Villagers. Didn’t they seem more like ordinary Villagers than me?”
Gu Meng silently flipped over his Hunter card, feeling like his gaming experience had been zero. He’d survived till the end but lost the game, without even getting to use his Hunter ability to take someone down. At this point, being a Hunter was no different from being a regular Villager.
Jiang Ci innocently raised her hands. “I wasn’t the one who killed you.”
Momo: “Then who was it?”
Chi Yuan smiled awkwardly. “Sorry, Momo. It was me—I poisoned you.”
Momo: “You’re the Witch?”
Chi Yuan: Exactly—the idiot Witch who mixed up her antidote and poison.
This round had given her the full gaming experience, but it wasn’t one she particularly wanted.
Fanning the flames at just the right moment, Jiang Ci added fuel to the fire, “The witch who saved the werewolf and poisoned the civilian played a crucial role in securing victory for our faction.”
Chi Yuan: Heh heh heh.
No wonder Jiang Ci stepped forward to challenge momo as the Seer—he had calculated that he still had one antidote and one poison potion left, orchestrating this werewolf suicide act to trick people into using their potions.
Jiang Ci: “Actually, I thought you wouldn’t use the poison and planned to vote momo out next round. Seems… you really trusted me.”
Chi Yuan covered her face, “Your acting was way too convincing. Your analysis of Wang Wen was so thorough—who betrays their teammate like that?”
Jiang Ci: “His statements about Gao Yaohui were too conspicuous, revealing his tells. Upon closer examination, it was easy to determine he was a werewolf. And to hide the final clue, he had no way out either way.”
At this point, previously eliminated guests emerged from the interview room.
Hearing Jiang Ci’s words, Wang Wen complained aggrievedly, “I was just thinking about the bigger picture, trying to protect my teammates.”
He unfolded a slip of paper from his pocket that read “World in the Mirror.”
Wang Wen: “This is Teacher Jiang’s famous work—I recognized it immediately. The production team’s clue design was way too obvious. If I hadn’t gotten it, the game would’ve ended long ago.”
Following him, Gu Ning—who sat beside Gu Meng—looked even more bitter, “You call that protecting teammates? Sacrificing a teammate right at the start—did you have some grudge against me?”
Wang Wen scratched his head sheepishly, “We had zero clues back then, and I happened to be the first werewolf to kill. I just took a random guess—with three out of four odds, I thought I’d definitely get it right. Never expected… sorry, bro.”
Gu Ning: “…”
Still confused about how the game ended, Gu Meng looked around timidly and asked, “Then who was the real Seer? Not momo, not Teacher Jiang… so who was it?”
Zhao Zhenzhen sighed, “I was the Seer. After checking Yaohui was a civilian, I tried forming an alliance with him—never thought Wang Wen would see us.”
Wang Wen: “I did see you, but Jiang Ci was the one who voted you out. I’d already voted once, so it was Jiang Ci’s turn next. Framing Yaohui was a last-minute idea. Seriously though, Teacher Jiang, how did you know Sister Zhenzhen was the Seer?”
Jiang Ci shook his head, “I didn’t know. The first clue said there was one female among the werewolves, meaning all other women besides me were civilians. I picked Sister Zhenzhen—never imagined I’d accidentally kill the Seer.”
“Originally I was torn between Gu Meng and momo about who was the civilian. Thankfully momo raised her hand claiming to be the Seer, which confirmed it for me.”
“Honestly, you could’ve just suggested everyone reveal their roles then. With only one werewolf left, it would’ve been 3v1—even if I killed you, you could’ve used the witch’s antidote to revive.”
Momo shot Chi Yuan a resentful look: “Yeah, I never expected you to be the witch, nor that I’d be the only civilian left alive.”
Blushing crimson, Chi Yuan covered her face in embarrassment—damn it, she’d never shake off her reputation as the game’s black hole.
Complaining internally to the system: You definitely knew Jiang Ci’s identity, right? Why didn’t you warn me?
System: Was Jiang Ci in danger?
Chi Yuan: No.
System: “Did the female lead suddenly act up again?”
Chi Yuan: “No.”
System: “Then why remind me? Helping a low-IQ host win the game isn’t part of my job scope.”
Chi Yuan: “…”
Chi Yuan: “Did you just insult me?”
System: “No.”
Chi Yuan: “You called me stupid?”
System: “No.”
Chi Yuan: “And now you’re gloating!”
System: “No.”
Chi Yuan decided to unilaterally cut ties with the system for a week.
…
The next day, Momo’s scheduled experience as village chief was postponed to the following Monday due to the weekend’s free time.
Everyone packed up and left Taoli Village, and by noon, the once lively little Western-style house returned to its usual quiet and deserted state.
Jiang Ci stayed behind. After the others had gone, she began cleaning the unwashed dishes in the kitchen and collecting the forgotten bedding and pillowcases from the balcony.
By then, all the filming cameras had been turned off. In this unnoticed corner, Jiang Ci carefully tidied up the “home” that had temporarily housed nine people.
Once everything was in order, she turned around and came face-to-face with Chi Yuan—wearing a baseball cap, black sunglasses perched on her tall nose bridge, and dressed in casual clothes.
Jiang Ci: “Weren’t you leaving? Why are you back? Forget something?”
Chi Yuan lowered the brim of her cap, her gaze flickering away. “No space left. Had to wait for the next trip.”
Jiang Ci chuckled. “Didn’t the production team splurge on a few speedboats?”
Chi Yuan pursed her lips, feigning impatience. “Too many people. No room on the speedboats either.”
Jiang Ci didn’t call out her flimsy excuse. “Then I suppose CEO Chi will have to squeeze onto a covered boat with me.”
Chi Yuan’s ears reddened slightly as she muttered an awkward, “Mhm.”
It had been years since she last felt the warmth of someone waiting for her.
The two walked side by side along the tree-lined path.
Chi Yuan: “Teacher Jiang is such a busy person. Any plans for the weekend?”
Jiang Ci gave her a knowing look. “What, CEO Chi wants to invite me somewhere?”
Chi Yuan rubbed her nose, uneasy. “My mom said… you should come home for meals more often.”
So it was Mrs. Chi’s idea.
Jiang Ci turned her face away, a pang of disappointment surging in her chest before she forcibly suppressed it.
“I have a commercial shoot. No time.”
She quickened her pace, leaving Chi Yuan staring blankly at her slender back, an inexplicable feeling rising—
Jiang Ci seemed suddenly angry.
System: “Alert, alert! Potential safety hazards detected at the commercial shoot location. The antagonist may face danger. Host must take immediate action to save her.”
Startled, Chi Yuan hurried after her, anxiety creeping into her voice. “Do you really have to go to that shoot? Can’t you skip it?”
Jiang Ci shot her a strange look. “I already accepted the job. I can’t back out now.”
“Then… where’s the shoot?”
Jiang Ci: “At the studio next to Dingxuan Plaza. Why? Planning to escort me there?”
Chi Yuan: “Yes, absolutely.” She had to—who knew what trouble was brewing this time?
Jiang Ci didn’t take her seriously. But when Chi Yuan showed up at her doorstep that morning—
Jiang Ci: “…”
“If CEO Chi has nothing better to do, maybe take a stroll around Red Alley in Xiliu District instead.”
“Red Lane” was the city’s largest red-light district, the perfect place for those seeking pleasure. The original owner of this body used to frequent that area so often that Mother Chi was driven to posting notices on every street, shop by shop.
“Chi Yuan and dogs are not allowed inside.”
Chi Yuan knew Jiang Ci was mocking her, but now wasn’t the time for bickering.
She patted the dazzling yellow Ferrari beside her, “I just wanted to give you a ride.”
Unsolicited kindness always has ulterior motives.
Jiang Ci: “No need, President Chi. I can go myself.”
Chi Yuan: “Professor Jiang, there’s no need to be so formal. After all, we’ve shared a bed for so many nights—this is only natural.”
The nearly invisible assistant beside Jiang Ci widened her eyes, looking helplessly between them.
Was… was this something she should be hearing?
Seeing Jiang Ci’s reluctant expression, Chi Yuan leaned closer, “Professor Jiang, do you know how emotionally scarred I was after you played with my feelings during that game the other day?”
“And now you’re even refusing a simple ride to work? You’re breaking my heart.”
Jiang Ci pressed her lips together hesitantly before finally turning to her assistant, “I’ll take her car today. You can go home now.”
The assistant stared blankly at Chi Yuan’s triumphant smile, “Understood, Professor Jiang. Then… please be careful.”
The car traced a graceful arc as the sleek yellow sports car stopped at the studio entrance, drawing many eyes.
As Jiang Ci stepped out, about to express her thanks, she heard the driver’s side door close.
—Chi Yuan had gotten out too.
Jiang Ci: “Why are you getting out?”
Chi Yuan rubbed her chin, “Hmm, it just occurred to me—since I’m already here, maybe I should do some shooting too.”
Jiang Ci didn’t understand: “Shoot what?”
Chi Yuan smiled, eyes crinkling, as she made the decision, “A commercial, of course.”
