Failed to Transmigrate, I’m Back Again - Chapter 14
Zhang Rui, arriving late, couldn’t help but mutter as she examined the clues, “What a coincidence, you always seem to find the clues first.”
After a full afternoon of exploring, everyone knew that the bronze treasure chests contained clue information, while the palm-sized chests held items. Since clues could be shared, everyone was willing to cooperate. If it had been items, convincing them would have been much harder.
Hearing Zhang Rui’s remark, Tang Wuyun’s heart tightened. Just as she was considering whether to respond, a gloomy college student approached.
Ji Mingyin’s voice was filled with resentment. “I’m the only unlucky one. I’ve only encountered NPCs the whole time. I finally find you guys, but you’ve already taken everything. I really wanted to play in the water too.”
She had even rolled up her pants legs, only for everyone to call a truce and stop competing.
Now, Ji Mingyin, who had been so eager to play in the water, looked utterly dejected.
Shi Shuwu’s eye twitched. So, her earlier haste to take off her shoes wasn’t about helping Tang Wuyun at all—it was just because she wanted to play in the water.
Zhang Rui seized the opportunity to change the subject. “If you want to play in the water, just go! It’s nice and cool in there.”
Tang Wuyun quickly chimed in, “Want a water fight? It’s easy! Just follow the stream upstream about a hundred meters, and you’ll find a mission point with plenty of water guns.”
She was tired of acting and wanted a break anyway.
Lu Ya was the first to respond, “I want to play!”
As she spoke, her gaze fixed rudely on Tang Wuyun, her mind seething with thoughts of being the first to soak her with a water gun.
The others remained silent but turned to Tang Wuyun, barely suppressing their grins, eager to join the water fight.
Tang Wuyun felt a chill run down her spine under their intense stares.
What’s with this? Do they have to make their desire to target me so obvious?
Luo Xiting, who was more friendly toward Tang Wuyun, wasn’t in a rush to target her. Instead, he focused on her words, his sharp mind picking up on a discrepancy. “You were here earlier? Why are you only looking for the treasure chest now?”
Hearing this, Shi Zhimiao turned her head and smoothly offered an explanation, “We got the treasure chest information after completing a mission there. We were just following the clues when you found us.”
Her words were half-truth, half-lie.
While they were busy tricking others along the way, they hadn’t forgotten to look for clues themselves. The mission point did contain information about a treasure chest, but the clue it provided didn’t lead to this location. They had already obtained that chest.
Tang Wuyun nodded, her face showing a mixture of resignation and annoyance at being taken advantage of. “Yeah, you got lucky.”
This was a line they had rehearsed beforehand, and they delivered it with practiced ease.
The group arrived at the mission point Tang Wuyun had described. There was indeed a basket of water guns, but the NPC who had issued the mission earlier was nowhere to be seen.
Since everyone present was female, Jiang Wenfei wisely refrained from suggesting he join in. After reviewing the clue, he excused himself and left.
He understood that his presence would only make the girls uncomfortable and likely draw the ire of their fans. He knew better than to intrude unless other male guests were present.
So, with Zhang Rui joining them midway, the group consisted of eight people.
They decided to pair up for matches:
Lu Ya and Qiao Mian formed one team. Zhang Rui and Luo Xiting teamed up. Shi Zhimiao and Ji Mingyin paired off. Tang Wuyun and Shi Shuwu were left as the final team.
Tang Wuyun was furious about the group assignments. She had wanted to team up with Shi Zhimiao, but Shi Zhimiao rejected her. As a fallback, she approached Ji Mingyin, only to be turned down again.
CP fans were like that, always finding ways to manufacture their own “sweet moments.”
Left out, Shi Shuwu stared blankly.
She decided to strike first, reluctantly glancing at Tang Wuyun. “Do you think I wanted to choose you?” she snapped. “If you weren’t the only one left, I wouldn’t be stuck with you.”
Though Shi Shuwu genuinely wanted to play with Tang Wuyun, she couldn’t bear to see Tang Wuyun’s resentful expression at being paired with her. It made her feel terrible.
Shi Shuwu was genuinely hurt.
So she decided to give Tang Wuyun a taste of her own medicine, preemptively rejecting her. That way, Tang Wuyun wouldn’t have the chance to reject her first.
If Tang Wuyun knew about Shi Shuwu’s convoluted scheme, she would probably be infuriated all over again.
Back when they used to play games together, Tang Wuyun hadn’t found Shi Shuwu’s words irritating. As teammates, she had simply found them endearing.
Tang Wuyun found Shi Shuwu both endearing and frustrating. She desperately wanted to punch her, but she couldn’t bring herself to dislike her.
Having endured Shi Shuwu’s cutting remarks and merciless mockery in the past, Tang Wuyun now found her current banter strangely amusing.
I must be sick, she thought, and promptly punched herself again.
Shi Shuwu stared in silence. Why does Tang Wuyun keep hitting herself? Did my words really anger her that much?
Am I really that bad at speaking?
Shi Shuwu resolved to consult Tan Qingyu properly upon returning. It seemed her communication skills were far worse than she’d realized.
Tang Wuyun, meanwhile, was furious at her own spineless thoughts.
After venting her anger, she suddenly calmed down and began to doubt the authenticity of the Shi Shuwu she had known before.
The shock of being ridiculed in the past had been too overwhelming for Tang Wuyun to process. She had always avoided dwelling on it.
But now, the Shi Shuwu before her gave her an unprecedented sense of security.
Tang Wuyun’s mind was in utter chaos. She felt this was absurd.
Zzz! Zzz!
A stream of water struck Tang Wuyun’s arm, splashing her face and instantly snapping her out of her daze.
Lu Ya smirked maliciously. “Standing there daydreaming? Who do you think you’re looking down on?”
Tang Wuyun snapped back to reality, stealing a glance at Shi Shuwu beside her. She wiped her face, turned to Lu Ya, shook her head with a theatrical sigh, and clicked her tongue.
Her entire demeanor practically begged for a punch.
Tang Wuyun curled her lips into an arrogant smirk. “Forgive my bluntness, but everyone here is…”
Before she could finish, Shi Shuwu shoved her with her shoulder without hesitation.
“Can’t you just shut up with the trash talk?!” Shi Shuwu snapped, her face dark with anger.
Tan Qingyu was wrong—Tang Wuyun was even more infuriating!
Though Shi Shuwu cut her off quickly, the others weren’t fools. They clearly understood the rest of Tang Wuyun’s unfinished insult.
Without a word, the six attackers immediately lunged at Tang Wuyun.
Caught in the crossfire, Shi Shuwu had no time to dodge and could only scramble for cover alongside Tang Wuyun.
As Tang Wuyun retreated, she clung to Shi Shuwu, her face already drenched with water droplets. Shamelessly, she hid behind Shi Shuwu.
Shi Shuwu: “!”
“Why did you have to run your mouth?!”
Soaked to the bone, Tang Wuyun still managed to retort, “Even if I hadn’t, they wouldn’t have let me off the hook!”
The usually composed Shi Shuwu finally snapped, shoving Tang Wuyun as they dodged. “And you think I would?!”
Despite her words, Shi Shuwu ultimately didn’t lay a hand on Tang Wuyun.
In truth, Tang Wuyun had come here deliberately. She could have avoided the outing altogether, knowing she’d be ganged up on. But she wanted to give her sisters a chance to vent their anger, so she came.
As for Shi Shuwu, she was just plain unlucky…
Still, Shi Shuwu could have joined the others in attacking Tang Wuyun to avoid being targeted herself.
She was being awfully foolish.
Dazed by the relentless water gun barrage, Shi Shuwu thought she heard Tang Wuyun say something.
“The current you is more like the real you.”
Shi Shuwu couldn’t make sense of the words.
Maybe she’d misheard.
