Failed to Transmigrate, I’m Back Again - Chapter 39
At dinner, Tang Wuyun insisted that Shi Zhimiao have several bottles of her treasured wine brought over. Under Tang Wuyun’s coaxing, everyone drank quite a bit.
“I know you mean well, but I can only have one glass. I have a recording tomorrow,” Bai Jin said, blocking Tang Wuyun, who was trying to get her to drink more.
Earlier, Tang Wuyun had been declaring that life was hopeless, meaningless, and that she wanted to die. Now that she realized she might not have to die after all, she was practically floating on air, insisting everyone drink with her.
Shi Zhimiao and Pei Yinxi indulged her.
The problem was that Tang Wuyun had a terrible tolerance for alcohol.
Oh… and there was Shi Shuwu, whom Tang Wuyun had dragged into drinking with them.
Lu Ya leaned close to Bai Jin’s ear and whispered, “Hehe, I think she’s making everyone drink so Shi Shuwu will have a few sips too, and then neither of them will be able to drive home.”
Bai Jin expressionlessly grabbed Lu Ya by the back of her collar and yanked the already tipsy girl upright.
Making such a scene! Does she think her voice is quiet?
Everyone at the table had heard.
Bai Jin forced a dry laugh at Shi Shuwu. “Ahem, the kid’s had too much. Drunk words, you know?”
Shi Shuwu narrowed her eyes, turning to observe Tang Wuyun’s reaction to the remark. But as she turned, the culprit collapsed face-first onto the table with a thud.
Shi Shuwu: “……”
Shi Shuwu instinctively suspected Tang Wuyun was faking it.
But Tang Wuyun’s cheeks were flushed crimson, making her appear genuinely drunk.
“Is she really drunk?” Shi Shuwu poked Tang Wuyun’s arm.
Her skepticism stemmed from Tang Wuyun’s earlier boast about being able to hold her liquor through a thousand cups.
Shi Zhimiao rubbed her throbbing temples. “She has the lowest alcohol tolerance of us all. It’s impressive she lasted this long.”
Looking at the passed-out Tang Wuyun, Shi Zhimiao’s mind churned with conflicting thoughts.
What should I do? Letting Shi Shuwu take her back to her room might not be the best idea—they haven’t even talked yet.
But Tang Wuyun seems to be deliberately pushing things tonight. Should I just play along?
As Shi Zhimiao wrestled with whether to help Tang Wuyun, Pei Yinxi turned to Shi Shuwu and spoke first: “Why don’t you sleep in Wuyun’s room tonight? No need to go back.”
Pei Yinxi added gently, “Have Wuyun move out of her room and sleep with Lu Ya.”
The atmosphere at the dining table froze for a moment.
This isn’t what they expected.
Pei Yinxi secretly kicked Lu Ya under the table, but Lu Ya didn’t react.
The group had been so focused on helping Tang Wuyun pursue Shi Shuwu that they hadn’t considered whether Shi Shuwu herself wanted this. They should have been more considerate of her feelings.
Shi Shuwu: “Ah… there’s really no need to go to such trouble.”
Pei Yinxi smiled warmly. “It’s no trouble at all.”
Bai Jin grabbed Lu Ya by the back of her collar and turned her to face Pei Yinxi. “Sister Pei, look, Yaya’s drunk.”
Then she asked, “Do you really want two drunk people sleeping together?”
Pei Yinxi was speechless. She had intended for Lu Ya and Bai Jin to share a room, but she hadn’t had a chance to say so yet.
Bai Jin’s words, however, struck a nerve.
Tang Wuyun suddenly raised her head. “I want to sleep together!”
Shi Shuwu gritted her teeth and couldn’t resist stomping on Tang Wuyun’s foot under the table.
Who else does Tang Wuyun want to sleep with?
She understood that Pei Yinxi had arranged things this way out of consideration for her feelings, but she didn’t want to let Tang Wuyun off the hook. Having finally caught a glimpse of Tang Wuyun drunk, Shi Shuwu was eager to tease her a bit.
Pei Yinxi simply ignored Tang Wuyun’s drunken ramblings and turned to Bai Jin, patiently explaining, “I didn’t mean for Yaya and Wuyun to sleep together. I meant Yaya would sleep with me tonight so I can keep an eye on her, and Wuyun can have Yaya’s room.”
But Bai Jin instinctively glanced in Shi Zhimiao’s direction.
Wait, something’s not right!
There were four rooms in total: one each for Tang Wuyun and Shi Shuwu. If Pei Yinxi was sharing with Lu Ya, wouldn’t that mean she’d have to share with Shi Zhimiao?
She quickly shook her head.
“No, no, no!”
“I can take care of Yaya just fine,” Bai Jin said smoothly, her quick wit kicking in. “Sister Pei, you can stay with Miaomiao. I’d be too nervous sleeping next to the CEO.”
Pei Yinxi smiled, nodding in satisfaction. “Very well.”
Bai Jin tilted her head, surprised by how quickly Pei Yinxi agreed.
Was it just her imagination? Did Pei Yinxi seem like she was waiting for her to say exactly that?
If Tang Wuyun were sober, she would have immediately recognized this familiar scenario.
Shi Zhimiao stared absently at her wine glass, offering no opinion. Only after Pei Yinxi finished speaking did she subtly curve her lips into a smile.
Seeing the others politely settle the room arrangements, Shi Shuwu finally found an opening to speak. She cleared her throat and, feigning composure, nudged the already half-asleep Tang Wuyun.
“No need to make things complicated. I can share with her.”
She had expected the others, who had been teasing her and Tang Wuyun all night, to readily agree to her suggestion.
But Bai Jin waved her hand again. “No, no, no. It’s settled as is.”
Bai Jin’s head was spinning.
These two sleeping together would leave one room empty.
Perfect. Compared to Tang Wuyun and Shi Shuwu, this pair seems even less likely to happen. So…
“Pei Yinxi, let’s just leave it like this.”
Shi Zhimiao nodded.
Shi Shuwu found the group’s behavior odd. Their sudden politeness during the room assignments was already strange.
Moreover, while Lu Ya, who was drunk, needed someone to look after her, no one seemed concerned about Tang Wuyun, who had already passed out.
Something’s fishy.
Shi Shuwu subtly observed the expressions on everyone’s faces.
Why hadn’t Pei Yinxi and Shi Zhimiao offered to take care of Tang Wuyun? Were they trying to push her to pair up with Tang Wuyun, or… did they actually just want to be alone together?
Shi Shuwu’s eyes lit up, but she calmly suppressed the joy of seemingly uncovering a major secret.
She nodded solemnly. “Alright, then let Tang Wuyun fend for herself. She can sleep alone.”
Shi Shuwu subtly reminded the others that Tang Wuyun would be unattended, but the four at the table acted as if they hadn’t heard, tacitly pretending not to understand.
Well, they couldn’t have made it any more obvious…
Shi Shuwu grinned inwardly, feeling like she’d cracked the case!
Just as she was about to continue her analysis, Tang Wuyun suddenly lurched up and grabbed her arm.
“I don’t want to sleep alone!”
Shi Shuwu’s eyes widened, completely unprepared for this outburst. She tried to push Tang Wuyun away.
“Be reasonable!”
“Get up already! Don’t keep her from her gossip!”
“We can always sleep together again later. One more day won’t make a difference!”
Tang Wuyun continued to cling to Shi Shuwu, her voice filled with aggrieved resentment over Shi Shuwu’s earlier remark about leaving her to fend for herself. “We already slept together yesterday…”
The others: “!”
Shi Shuwu: “!!!”
Shi Shuwu’s face flushed crimson instantly.
She had only wanted to secretly enjoy the gossip, not become the gossip herself!
Bai Jin’s eyes widened, her unfiltered words spilling out: “Holy sh1t! You guys already slept together yesterday?!”
No wonder she’d noticed the two of them acting so much closer today.
Even Shi Zhimiao was momentarily stunned.
Had Tang Wuyun actually started living the good life already?
Pei Yinxi cleared her throat and spoke up: “Well… it seems you two should definitely sleep together. There’s no need to separate.”
Shi Shuwu struggled to suppress the heat rising in her cheeks. She closed her eyes briefly, gritting her teeth as she insisted, “Don’t listen to her nonsense. Nothing happened.”
She had merely spent the night with Tang Wuyun—a completely innocent sleepover!
Tang Wuyun clung tightly to Shi Shuwu, insisting, “Let’s sleep together!”
Shi Shuwu’s face flushed crimson in mere seconds.
She tried to pull away from Tang Wuyun, who was holding her in a death grip. Afraid of hurting her, Shi Shuwu hesitated to use force, but without it, she couldn’t break free.
Tang Wuyun resisted with her eyes closed, muttering, “Sleep together…”
The two remained locked in a stalemate.
Tang Wuyun’s weight pinned Shi Shuwu down completely, making her feel like she was about to burst into flames.
Caught between retreat and advance, Shi Shuwu gritted her teeth and slapped Tang Wuyun’s head twice, hissing, “Stop talking nonsense!”
“Ahem, never mind. Let’s pretend we didn’t hear that,” Shi Zhimiao said, barely suppressing a smile. She lowered her head and scratched her brow, joining Bai Jin and the others in teasing Shi Shuwu for once.
At this point, no one would believe Shi Shuwu if she claimed she had no feelings for Tang Wuyun.
Shi Shuwu: “……”
Shi Shuwu patted Tang Wuyun again, trying to get her to explain, but the other woman refused to react.
Within seconds, Shi Shuwu realized the full weight of Tang Wuyun pressing down on her. She took a deep breath, utterly helpless.
Tang Wuyun had simply fallen asleep on top of her.
Shi Shuwu hesitated for a long moment, wanting to say something but unable to find the words. Finally, under the silent gaze of the other four women, she forced out, her expression numb, “She’s asleep. I’ll carry her back to her room.” She tried to maintain a polite tone, but her voice was stiff.
Bai Jin suppressed a laugh and nodded, waving her hand impatiently. “Yeah, yeah, hurry up!”
Tang Wuyun is something else, she thought. Even drunk, she doesn’t forget to chase after her girlfriend.
Lu Ya mimicked Bai Jin’s gesture, her face lit up with a goofy grin. Giggling, she inexplicably flashed Shi Shuwu a peace sign.
Shi Shuwu blinked. What’s that supposed to mean?
Lu Ya giggled. “You two are gonna sleep together! The kissing kind!”
The moment Shi Shuwu heard those words, the hand she had just lifted to carry Tang Wuyun went limp.
She nearly dropped Tang Wuyun onto the floor.
The others struggled to contain their laughter, daring not to speak.
It’s better to be drunk, they thought. At least you can say what we’re too afraid to.
Bai Jin swiftly clapped a hand over Lu Ya’s mouth, offering Shi Shuwu an awkward smile while secretly bursting with amusement.
Shi Shuwu forced a strained smile.
As expected, dealing with Tang Wuyun’s friends requires an iron constitution.
I want to die. Why couldn’t I be the one who got drunk…?
