Failed to Transmigrate, I’m Back Again - Chapter 44
“Shi Shuwu says she’s not coming back!”
Tang Wuyun stared at her phone, abruptly standing up with a deep frown.
Shi Shuwu wasn’t coming back!
Lu Ya glanced at her, puzzled, and casually asked, “Huh? Why not?”
Tang Wuyun replied solemnly, “She said we’ll meet at the filming location in two days.”
Lu Ya nodded, continuing to play her game, and said nonchalantly, “Then we’ll see her when we film. It’s only two days away anyway.”
Tang Wuyun collapsed helplessly back onto the sofa.
“You don’t understand. She’s breaking her promise…”
Shi Shuwu had clearly said she’d return in two days.
She’d even said they’d film the show together.
Lu Ya kicked Tang Wuyun, who was sprawled lifelessly on the sofa.
“Seriously? Are you this clingy?”
Tang Wuyun had never been like this before.
Tang Wuyun remained motionless and silent.
Lu Ya clicked her tongue.
She sent Shi Shuwu a message.
Lu Ya: Look at this…
Lu Ya immediately snapped a photo of Tang Wuyun with her phone.
Tang Wuyun was lying on the sofa in her pajamas, her head buried in a pillow, her face completely hidden. She even had a pillow wedged between her feet. The unflattering photo of her sprawled across the sofa was sent to Shi Shuwu.
Lu Ya: She’s been muttering about you breaking your promise and is about to cry.
Lu Ya clutched her phone, stifling a giggle.
Shi Shuwu, who was checking her phone at that moment, first saved Tang Wuyun’s photo before replying.
Shi Shuwu: Is she really crying?
Is she that fragile?
Lu Ya kicked Tang Wuyun again and replied with a mischievous grin: Really, really.
Then, remembering something, she added: But I’m about to cry too! Three meals a day, every single one is tofu dregs.
Shi Shuwu chuckled. Tang Wuyun’s brain seemed to have short-circuited, making her obsessively chop tofu every day.
Seeing the message, Shi Shuwu’s lips curved into a smile. She knew Tang Wuyun had sent her photos of her training progress before.
At the time, she had only thought Tang Wuyun was being earnest, completely overlooking the hidden victim in their home.
The smile in Shi Shuwu’s eyes deepened as she and Luo Zhuo stepped into the elevator. She glanced sideways at Luo Zhuo, who was also replying to a message.
Curiously, she asked, “What were you and Jiang Jiwen chatting about?”
Her assistant and Tang Wuyun’s assistant seemed to have endless topics to discuss, constantly messaging each other. About half of their conversations revolved around Tang Wuyun, with one responsible for complaining and the other for agreeing.
Luo Zhuo replied, “Nothing much. Ji Wen was just complaining about Tang Wuyun’s behavior these past few days. She said Tang Wuyun seems incapable of standing up straight anymore.”
Either she’s apologizing or on her way to apologize.
Shi Shuwu tilted her head and chuckled, “When has she ever stood up straight? She’s always either sprawled out or lying down.”
Luo Zhuo: “……”
Her expression was one of disdain, utterly speechless.
They were clearly talking about completely different things.
Luo Zhuo suspected that Shi Shuwu had only asked this pointless question to bring up a topic related to Tang Wuyun.
Tang Wuyun, the subject of the group’s hushed whispers, remained sprawled on the sofa, brooding.
Lu Ya approached her, shifted her angle, and snapped a quick photo before Tang Wuyun could react. She then sent all the photos to Shi Shuwu.
Tang Wuyun sprang up from the sofa.
She lunged for Lu Ya’s phone, demanding, “Who did you send those to?!”
Lu Ya spun around to evade Tang Wuyun, her tone infuriatingly smug. “Who do you think? Shi Shuwu, of course.”
Before she could finish, Tang Wuyun grabbed her arm and yanked her backward. Both girls tumbled onto the sofa, their eyes fixed on the phone as they unexpectedly wrestled for it.
“Give me the phone!”
Tang Wuyun locked her arm around Lu Ya’s neck while trying to snatch the phone with her other hand.
Lu Ya clutched the phone to her chest, her voice defiant. “No way! It’ll be too late to recall them soon. Even if you get it, it won’t matter—Shi Shuwu’s definitely seen them already!”
Tang Wuyun flew into a rage.
“Do you want a beating?!”
Lu Ya craned her neck and shouted, “If you hit me, I’ll tell Sister Pei!”
“Ow! You dare pull my hair?!”
Lu Ya tossed her phone onto the other sofa and spun around, ready to retaliate.
The two women immediately resumed their brawl.
Shi Shuwu and Luo Zhuo pushed open the door to find them locked in a chaotic struggle.
Shi Shuwu stared in stunned silence.
Luo Zhuo’s lips twitched. “Did we… come in at the wrong time?” she muttered, deeply skeptical.
Neither of them had ever imagined witnessing such a scene.
The fighting pair finally paused, their hair disheveled and dignity lost, yet neither released their grip. One clutched the other’s collar, kicking at her waist, while the other grabbed her chin, tilting her head upward.
Without a word, Shi Shuwu silently opened Pei Yinxi’s chat window, quickly started recording, and aimed the camera at the two women. “Fight. Keep fighting. Don’t stop.”
Tang Wuyun turned to Shi Shuwu, her face lighting up with glee.
“Me!”
Shi Shuwu paused for a moment, looking up from her phone screen and tilting her head at them. “Don’t worry, I won’t give you Sister Pei. I’ll let her be the judge.”
After a pause, she extended her hand in a gesture of invitation. “You can continue fighting now.”
The group of people tangled in a brawl froze.
They fell silent, each sensing the other’s intention to cease hostilities through the easing of their grips.
In unspoken agreement, they released their holds.
Tang Wuyun was the first to scramble to her feet. She smoothed her hair with a clawed hand, tilted her head, and waved a greeting at Luo Zhuo.
Luo Zhuo smiled, glanced at the group, and pointed to a guest room downstairs. “You can stay here. Freshen up and get some rest.”
Luo Zhuo nodded, stretched languidly, and yawned. “Alright, you guys chat.”
She’d catch up on pleasantries after she woke up. She was simply too exhausted for now.
Lu Ya curled back up on the sofa, helping the still-fidgeting Tang Wuyun. “Didn’t you say you weren’t coming back?” she asked Shi Shuwu.
Shi Shuwu lowered her head to reply to Pei Yinxi’s message, saying calmly, “That was the original plan, but after work, I realized I could catch the last high-speed train, so I came.”
Tang Wuyun moved closer to Shi Shuwu, secretly studying her expression. “Didn’t you get any rest?” she asked.
Shi Shuwu put away her phone. “No, but I’ll rest now.”
She looked up at Tang Wuyun, then at Lu Ya, suppressing a laugh. “If you two haven’t finished your game, you can keep playing. I’m going upstairs.”
The two women froze simultaneously.
Shi Shuwu chuckled and headed for the stairs.
Tang Wuyun quickly turned and followed, trailing closely behind Shi Shuwu. “Are you having dinner? What do you want to eat?”
Shi Shuwu shook her head. “No, I’m trying to lose weight.”
Tang Wuyun caught up to her, speaking earnestly, “You’re already so thin. You don’t need to lose any more weight.”
Shi Shuwu pushed open her bedroom door, her voice tinged with fatigue. “Then make me a low-fat meal.”
Tang Wuyun nodded and followed her inside.
“That’s easy. Just eat the same as Yaya.”
Shi Shuwu suddenly turned around.
Tang Wuyun froze in her tracks, nearly bumping into her.
Shi Shuwu took a step back and blinked. “What’s wrong?”
Shi Shuwu glanced at the door behind Tang Wuyun, gesturing with her eyes. “I’m going to shower and go to bed.”
Tang Wuyun stared blankly for a moment, her lips twitching downward slightly. Was Shi Shuwu trying to kick her out?
Shi Shuwu: “……”
She didn’t miss Tang Wuyun’s unhappy expression.
Tang Wuyun was truly quite sensitive.
Shi Shuwu nudged her shoulder. “What are you doing? You want to watch me sleep?”
She sighed softly, her voice tinged with helplessness. “Luo Zhuo and I haven’t slept for a day and a night to rush back. I’m really exhausted.”
Tang Wuyun finally realized she had no legitimate reason to argue with Shi Shuwu, nor any reason to stay.
Yet Shi Shuwu’s last words had filled her heart with a warm, fuzzy feeling.
Why else would Shi Shuwu rush back if not for her?
Tang Wuyun secretly rejoiced, nodding slightly at Shi Shuwu. “Alright, you should rest now.”
Reluctantly, she moved toward the door, glancing back at Shi Shuwu, who was still watching her. She slowly closed the door behind her.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Shi Shuwu’s shoulders relaxed.
She had been terrified that Tang Wuyun might suddenly decide to stay and keep her company, and she had already started agonizing over whether to agree if asked.
Downstairs, the moment Tang Wuyun stepped inside, Lu Ya rushed up to her, phone in hand.
“Sister Pei! She’s here! Tell her off!”
Lu Ya had brought Pei Yinxi to complain.
Having dealt with such situations countless times, Pei Yinxi understood the personalities of these girls well. She didn’t immediately believe Lu Ya’s story. Instead, she turned to Tang Wuyun. “Yaya says you hit her. Is that true?”
Tang Wuyun pointed angrily at Lu Ya. “She took unflattering photos of me first!”
“And she sent them to Shi Shuwu!”
Pei Yinxi fell silent.
She recalled the video Shi Shuwu had sent her earlier—a chaotic scene of the two girls wrestling on the ground. Anyone watching would have assumed they were bitter enemies.
And all this over…
They had actually fought over a few unflattering photos.
Pei Yinxi was speechless.
Pei Yinxi rubbed her forehead. “I’ll have A’Miao talk to your managers later and find you some work.”
These three were just too idle.
The trio simultaneously cried out in protest, “Sister Pei!”
Pei Yinxi sighed, “You’re all grown up, yet you’re still fighting? How embarrassing!”
Not only had they fought, but Shi Shuwu had caught them on video and sent it to Pei Yinxi.
Pei Yinxi felt like a parent being called to school because their child had gotten into a fight.
Didn’t they care about their reputations?
Tang Wuyun snatched the phone, plopped down on the sofa, and feigned a pitiful expression. “Sister Pei, please don’t contact my manager yet. Let me rest a little longer.”
Pei Yinxi considered it but remained firm. “Resting at home won’t solve anything. Work will distract you better.”
“Besides, you’ve been resting for over a year already.”
Tang Wuyun’s heart sank deeper with each word.
She tried to resist, muttering, “But I’m already filming a variety show…”
Though it was only three episodes, each requiring just one day of filming.
Pei Yinxi simply stared at her.
Tang Wuyun, feeling guilty under her gaze, silently averted her eyes.
Lu Ya leaned in, winking and nudging Tang Wuyun. “Sister Pei’s still hung up on romance!”
No wonder she doesn’t have time for work.
Pei Yinxi scoffed. “And do you think I’ve actually gotten anywhere?”
Lu Ya grinned sheepishly. “No, I haven’t. I tried my best, though.”
I’ve racked my brains over this, but these two just won’t get together.
Tang Wuyun’s voice was tinged with frustration. “You make it sound so simple.”
You have no idea how I feel. I have the desire, but not the courage.
Do you think I don’t want to be with Shi Shuwu?
I can feel her drawing closer, but that’s not enough to give me confidence. I’m completely uncertain.
“So, you want her to spell it out for you?” Lu Ya scoffed at Tang Wuyun’s earlier remark.
“Isn’t that just asking me to confess for you?”
Tang Wuyun opened her mouth to protest. “That’s not what I meant.”
Shi Shuwu confessing to me? Just hearing those words makes my heart race!
Good heavens, I’ve never dared to even imagine such a thing.
The thought has never even crossed my mind.
“Don’t be so insecure.” Pei Yinxi smiled, understanding Tang Wuyun’s thoughts perfectly.
“Shi Shuwu won’t hurt you. Trust me.”
Tang Wuyun nodded.
I’ll try my best, she encouraged herself.
Lu Ya deliberately teased her, “You?”
Tang Wuyun glared at her. “Don’t look down on me! I… I just prefer to be a bit more passive.”
By now, their feelings were practically an open secret.
Those dramatic Weibo posts had been quite proactive… right?
Lu Ya narrowed her eyes. “Excuses. Cowardice is cowardice.”
Tang Wuyun gritted her teeth. “You’re the coward! You’re even more cowardly than me!”
She’d never even been in a relationship before. The fact that she’d had the nerve to rent Shi Shuwu’s apartment was already a huge step forward.
Honestly, Tang Wuyun was perfectly content just being able to spend time with Shi Shuwu.
She was really easy to please.
Lu Ya scoffed, lifting her chin with an arrogant expression. “I’ve never been a coward in matters of the heart.”
The already quiet living room fell into complete silence after Lu Ya’s declaration.
Tang Wuyun stared at her intently.
Pei Yinxi, who had been busy with her own work, also looked up at Lu Ya.
