Failed to Transmigrate, I’m Back Again - Chapter 47
“Who’s calling this early?” Tang Wuyun asked, her eyes fixed on Shi Shuwu with curiosity. She noticed Shi Shuwu’s strange expression and sensed something was off.
Shi Shuwu’s gaze, which had been fixed on her phone awaiting a reply, froze. She lowered the device and turned to face Tang Wuyun, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
Having just endured her mother’s passive-aggressive remarks, and now this from her sister, Tang Wuyun knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep.
Shi Shuwu said earnestly, “You should get some sleep.”
Tang Wuyun stared at her, speechless. Her eyes remained fixed on Shi Shuwu.
The more Shi Shuwu refused to answer, the more Tang Wuyun wanted to know who was calling. She felt no qualms about pressing further, dismissing any notion of rudeness.
Shi Shuwu sighed softly, relenting. “It’s my sister.”
Tang Wuyun’s eyes went blank, her expression shifting to shock as her body visibly stiffened.
An incredulous emotion surged through her. Tang Wuyun’s heart skipped a beat, and it took her nearly half a minute to regain her composure.
She swallowed hard, clinging to a sliver of hope as she asked, “Your sister? Not your real sister, right?”
Lu Ya had specifically mentioned that the person in question was Shi Shuwu’s biological sister.
Tang Wuyun’s eyes narrowed with suspicion as she stared at Shi Shuwu.
Shi Shuwu looked genuinely puzzled. “Yes, my real sister.”
Tang Wuyun’s heart felt like it had plunged into an icy abyss, heavy with dread.
She murmured, “Why didn’t I know?”
Shi Shuwu had never mentioned it.
Tang Wuyun’s gaze flickered slightly. Before Shi Shuwu could answer, she pressed on, “Were you two not close? Did you lose contact? Or was she unkind to you? Or did you not live together?”
The barrage of questions left Shi Shuwu bewildered.
She shook her head in denial. “No, my sister and I are very close. We grew up together.”
Tang Wuyun’s face turned ashen. Leaning on one arm, she glared at Shi Shuwu, her voice tinged with accusation. “Then why have you never mentioned her? I didn’t know!”
Shi Shuwu blinked in confusion, looking up at Tang Wuyun, who was half-propped above her. The position was undeniably intimate, but Tang Wuyun seemed oblivious, her entire focus consumed by the revelation that Shi Shuwu had a biological sister.
Is this really such a big deal?
Shi Shuwu pursed her lips. “Well, I didn’t know you had a younger sister either.”
Tang Wuyun took a deep breath. “That’s different!”
It was completely different.
Overwhelmed, Tang Wuyun covered her face with her hands and asked in a low voice, “What’s your sister’s surname? What’s her name?”
Though puzzled by Tang Wuyun’s reaction, Shi Shuwu answered, “Her surname is Ke, Ke Huashuang. It’s the same as my grandmother’s.”
She found it odd. Normally, people would assume sisters share the same surname. Why was Tang Wuyun specifically asking about her sister’s surname?
Shi Shuwu had just asked, “Do you know my sister?” when Tang Wuyun abruptly turned her back and pulled the blanket over herself.
Tang Wuyun was deeply withdrawn, as if the collapsed sky had never been repaired.
Shi Shuwu stared blankly at Tang Wuyun’s back.
Is she angry because I didn’t tell her I had a sister?
After a moment’s hesitation, Shi Shuwu reached out, intending to pat Tang Wuyun’s back and coax her out of her mood. But before her hand could touch Tang Wuyun, Tang Wuyun suddenly threw off the blanket and sat up as if jolted by some unseen shock.
Her face dark with anger, Tang Wuyun stormed out of bed.
Shi Shuwu sat up, bewildered.
Shi Shuwu watched Tang Wuyun find her slippers and put them on. “Aren’t you going back to sleep?”
Tang Wuyun’s face was rigid, and she didn’t answer. The air around her was heavy with tension. Shi Shuwu saw her lower her head and turn in a circle, as if searching for something. A few seconds later, under Shi Shuwu’s gaze, Tang Wuyun took off the slippers she had just put on, clutched them in her hand, and glared fiercely.
Shi Shuwu frowned, her confusion deepening. Who is she planning to hit with those?
Before she could ask, Tang Wuyun strode barefoot toward the door. Shi Shuwu reacted instantly, grabbing her phone and scrambling out of bed to follow.
“Where are you going?” she called after the furious Tang Wuyun, her voice full of bewilderment.
Though she asked, Shi Shuwu already knew Tang Wuyun was going to beat someone up. After all, Tang Wuyun wouldn’t dare hit anyone but Lu Ya.
The only question was why?
Not expecting an answer, Shi Shuwu lowered her head and dialed Pei Yinxi’s number.
Tang Wuyun’s expression grew even darker, as if she wanted to beat Lu Ya to death. Shi Shuwu hoped Pei Yinxi could restrain her.
Seeing Tang Wuyun ignoring her completely, Shi Shuwu could only pin her hopes on Pei Yinxi.
Shi Shuwu couldn’t understand what was happening. It was all so bizarre.
Weren’t they just talking about her sister?
Why was Tang Wuyun suddenly acting like she wanted to beat up Lu Ya? What did Lu Ya have to do with this?
Downstairs, Luo Zhuo, who was discussing travel arrangements with Tan Qingyu, stared in shock as the two women rushed down the stairs.
Before she could even greet them, she saw Tang Wuyun, her face twisted with fury, storm toward Lu Ya’s door.
The phone.
Luo Zhuo: ?
What drama is this now?
The door.
A sleepy voice from inside: “What is it?! The door’s unlocked, just come in!”
Tang Wuyun sneered.
Shi Shuwu’s eyelid twitched. Lu Ya would have been better off locking the door.
After a moment’s hesitation, she grabbed Tang Wuyun’s arm.
Tang Wuyun turned her head sharply, glaring at Shi Shuwu for trying to stop her.
Shi Shuwu choked on her words, overwhelmed by Tang Wuyun’s burning desire to barge in and beat someone up. “Why don’t you calm down first and tell me what’s going on?”
“Calm down?” Tang Wuyun scoffed. Instead of shaking off Shi Shuwu’s arm, she slammed her hand on the doorknob, wrenched the door open, and dragged Shi Shuwu, still clinging to her arm, inside.
She glared at the lump under the covers, her voice dripping with rage. “I’m going to kill her!”
Pei Yinxi had just answered Shi Shuwu’s call. Before she could even ask why she was calling so early, she heard Tang Wuyun’s furious words.
Immediately following Tang Wuyun’s outburst came Lu Ya’s pained scream.
Pei Yinxi: “……”
Pei Yinxi pressed a hand to her chest, climbed out of bed, and sighed deeply.
This is too much to handle.
Meanwhile, Shi Shuwu watched in stunned silence as Tang Wuyun straddled Lu Ya through the covers, furiously slapping her.
“Stop talking nonsense!” Tang Wuyun roared between slaps. “Stop blocking me!”
“You little brat! Get out here! Why are you so quiet now?”
Lu Ya burrowed under the blankets, howling incoherently. For some reason, she didn’t even try to protest Tang Wuyun’s assault.
Snapping back to reality, Shi Shuwu quickly checked her phone. Seeing Pei Yinxi had answered, she walked to the door, covered the mouthpiece, and whispered, “Sister Pei, you must have heard everything. Should I put you on speakerphone so you can talk them down?”
Pei Yinxi’s lips twitched.
“Let her hit Lu Ya. Maybe getting it out of her system will calm her down.”
Pei Yinxi’s words left Shi Shuwu momentarily stunned.
Shi Shuwu: “?”
So what exactly did Lu Ya do wrong?
Pei Yinxi sighed again on the other end of the line.
Yesterday, after finishing work, Pei Yinxi hadn’t forgotten about Lu Ya’s online dating scam. While directly asking Ke Huashuang would be too forward, she could first consult the all-knowing President Shi at home.
As expected, our President Shi knew everything. One question was all it took to get the answer.
That evening, she told Lu Ya and Tang Wuyun, but only Lu Ya replied. Tang Wuyun likely didn’t see the message until this morning.
Well… it’s understandable that she’s triggered.
Having failed to get help from Pei Yinxi, Shi Shuwu had to take matters into her own hands. Though she didn’t know what Lu Ya had done wrong, since Lu Ya was staying with her, she couldn’t let Tang Wuyun beat her to a pulp.
Tang Wuyun raised her hand to strike, but Shi Shuwu grabbed it firmly and swiftly pulled her to the edge of the bed.
Tang Wuyun: “?”
Shi Shuwu hugged her tightly, immobilizing her.
Tang Wuyun tilted her head back to glare at Shi Shuwu, her eyes flashing with resentment.
Feeling Tang Wuyun’s struggles in her arms, Shi Shuwu tightened her grip and coaxed gently, “Stop hitting her for now. Calm down. Let’s talk this out properly. Besides, you’ve already hit her enough.”
I still have no idea what set Tang Wuyun off like this.
Tang Wuyun knelt by the bed, freeing one arm from Shi Shuwu’s embrace. Clutching a slipper, she pointed furiously at Lu Ya, who was cowering under the covers like a quail.
“Look at her, just huddling there and whimpering. Does she look like she’s in any real pain?”
Though her movements seemed violent, apart from the initial few blows, she hadn’t used much force at all, especially since the blanket was between them.
Shi Shuwu silently reached out and firmly pulled Tang Wuyun’s arm back down, away from Lu Ya.
Tang Wuyun: “……”
Shi Shuwu bent down and pulled Tang Wuyun’s slippers out from under the bed, trying to keep her voice calm. “So, what exactly happened?”
Tang Wuyun snorted coldly, then jerked her chin toward Lu Ya, whose eyes peeked out from under the blanket. “Ask her.”
Lu Ya blinked, meeting Shi Shuwu’s questioning gaze. Instantly, she thought of Shi Shuwu’s sister and silently ducked back under the covers.
Shi Shuwu: “……”
So, can we talk about it or not?
Tang Wuyun narrowed her eyes at Lu Ya and kicked her through the blanket with the foot Shi Shuwu wasn’t restraining.
“You’re so guilty, you already know, don’t you?”
Lu Ya reluctantly crawled out from under the covers and nodded hesitantly. “Sister Pei told me last night.”
She was afraid Tang Wuyun would get even angrier if she didn’t speak up.
Tang Wuyun sighed softly, relieved that Sister Pei had been reliable.
Her gaze sharpened as she turned to Lu Ya. “Did you explain things properly to them?”
Lu Ya blinked at Tang Wuyun.
Tang Wuyun: “?”
Lu Ya shrank back under the covers, her voice barely a whisper. “I didn’t dare…”
Tang Wuyun’s expression twisted. “What do you mean by that?!”
She immediately lunged for Lu Ya again, trying to grab her.
Fortunately, Shi Shuwu reacted quickly, wrapping her arms tightly around Tang Wuyun.
Unable to break free from Shi Shuwu’s grip, Tang Wuyun resorted to kicking Lu Ya. “You b1tch! You’re trying to ruin me!”
Lu Ya’s voice trembled with hurt. “I really didn’t mean to…”
Last night, she had even felt like she was tired of living, acting so recklessly.
Tang Wuyun gritted her teeth. “Pull her back here! Make her explain everything!”
Lu Ya’s voice turned defiant. “No, no, let’s just pretend nothing happened. Forget it. I’m not worth it…”
Tang Wuyun: “!”
Tang Wuyun struggled violently, kicking Lu Ya again. “You can forget it, but what about me? Are you trying to get me killed?!”
Shi Shuwu lowered her head, trying to get to the bottom of things. “So, who do you need to explain things to?”
Tang Wuyun gripped Shi Shuwu’s arms, which were wrapped tightly around her, and glared up at her. “Let go of me! I’ll beat her to death!”
Shi Shuwu’s eye twitched. She repeated patiently, “…Just tell me what happened first.”
Shi Shuwu was still completely bewildered.
Tang Wuyun glared furiously at Lu Ya, abandoning all pretense of discretion. “She had an online romance with your sister and then dumped her!”
Shi Shuwu froze, her clear gaze instantly turning blank.
After a few seconds, she found her voice. “Whose sister?”
Tang Wuyun continued to glare at Lu Ya, her voice bristling with anger. “Your sister, Ke Huashuang!”
Shi Shuwu blinked dumbly.
Shock, utter shock.
Her sister had been in an online romance, and the other party was Lu Ya, who had then dumped her!
No wonder everything had been so strange this morning.
Recalling her sister’s erratic behavior these past few days, Shi Shuwu couldn’t deny the truth: Ke Huashuang had been heartbroken.
“But she dumped my sister,” Shi Shuwu pointed out, her original confusion resurfacing. “Why are you so angry?”
Tang Wuyun’s chest heaved with renewed fury. “Lu Ya suspected your sister was lying about being Ke Huashuang. Then she claimed it was your sister, and then…”
Tang Wuyun recounted her harrowing experience of being harmed. As she spoke, Lu Ya burrowed deeper under the covers, her guilt palpable.
Shi Shuwu listened to this surreal truth, her mind blank for several moments. She lowered her head, gazing at Tang Wuyun with a complex expression.
No wonder…
Shi Shuwu suddenly recalled the advice she had given her sister, her pupils contracting sharply.
It’s over…
She quickly released Tang Wuyun, first placing the slippers she had been wearing on the floor, then grabbing her phone from the corner of the bed.
The call with Pei Yinxi had ended just a minute ago, but Shi Shuwu paid it no mind. She opened her chat with Ke Huashuang, who hadn’t replied to her suggestion to start dating.
Shi Shuwu’s gaze sharpened as she tentatively sent a questioning emoji.
Following the Tang Wuyun incident, a red exclamation mark reappeared on Shi Shuwu’s chat screen.
I’m done for…
Tang Wuyun tilted her head back, her gaze fixed on Shi Shuwu, who had suddenly stopped hugging her.
Noticing Shi Shuwu’s frozen expression, she asked curiously, “What’s wrong?”
Shi Shuwu opened her mouth, glanced down at Tang Wuyun, then quickly averted her eyes, her face flushed with the same guilty conscience as Lu Ya’s.
Tang Wuyun tilted her head further. “Hmm?”
Shi Shuwu pressed her lips together before finally saying, “My sister… blocked me.”
Only now did she realize that her sister’s usually mild-mannered personality could actually be pushed to its breaking point.
Tang Wuyun frowned, her expression even more puzzled. “Why?”
So sudden… what does this mean?
Even Lu Ya, who had been pretending to be asleep under the covers, peeked out to stare intently at Shi Shuwu.
No ulterior motive, just pure curiosity.
Shi Shuwu guiltily turned off her phone, casting a meaningful glance at Tang Wuyun without saying a word.
Tang Wuyun’s heart skipped a beat at that look. She asked in disbelief, “Is this… because of me again?”
Shi Shuwu remained silent. Well, yes… at least half of it.
Tang Wuyun glanced at Lu Ya, her voice tinged with desperation. “Lu Ya said I wouldn’t let her play with your sister. But what about you? What did you say to your sister this time?”
Shi Shuwu blinked guiltily at Tang Wuyun.
Tang Wuyun: “……”
I can’t live like this anymore.
