- Chapter 12 - Particle Shot of Fury
The gigantic monster was on a trajectory approaching the fourth planet. The Goblin race, as well as the Orc fleet, were in an uproar, with a flurry of communications flying back and forth.
“Captain Boburo, that monster is a Threat Level 8 Armored Artillery Isogin.”
The Armored Artillery Isogin was a super-giant monster that could grow to over three kilometers in length. Moreover, its armor, which covered its entire body like a turtle shell, could repel attacks from all weapons possessed by the Orc and Goblin races, while the cannon-like tentacles that extended out from the gaps in its shell could fire plasma projectiles.
This Armored Artillery Isogin was a beast akin to a battleship. The Orc fleet decided to retreat first. As numerous vessels fled to the opposite side of the planet, the Armored Artillery Isogin, which had a tendency to chase fleeing targets, began to pursue the Orc fleet.
The Goblin fleet’s soldiers felt a sense of relief, but an order was given to the second-class reconnaissance ship Gyogal to “monitor the Armored Artillery Isogin’s movements.” Captain Boburo commanded the ship to follow the Isogin while sporting a dissatisfied expression.

“Zen, this is bad. The Orc fleet is approaching us,” Sario warned.
Hearing Sario ‘s words, I peered into the radar monitor. There, I could see numerous vessels and a gigantic presence drawing closer.
“What’s that big one behind them?”
“Probably a giant monster. It might be an opportunity.”
“What do you mean?”
“If the Orc fleet escapes into temporal space, the giant monster might generate a temporal jump field in pursuit… If we can slip in at that moment, we might be able to reach a nearby star system.”
I nodded.
“Is it okay not to turn off the radar?”
“The orc fleet is emitting radar waves like crazy. We should be able to blend in and go unnoticed. Even if they do notice, they won’t be able to investigate in this situation.”
“That makes sense. But why isn’t the Orc fleet escaping into temporal space quickly?”
“It’s dangerous to jump into temporal space in an area with strong stellar gravity. They’ll likely generate the temporal jump field a bit farther from the planet.”
“I see.”
“This isn’t the time to be dawdling. Let’s launch the small spacecraft.”
I headed to the combat room and began flying the small spacecraft on a course that would allow us to bypass the Orc fleet and position ourselves behind the giant monster.
Using the Celestial Wave Force Drive technique, I began to accelerate the small spacecraft. The Orc fleet has probably noticed our movements, but they seemed too preoccupied to bother with us.
As we approached the giant monster, I felt a shiver of fear. Its turtle-like massive body, about three kilometers long, had numerous tentacle-like appendages protruding from it, writhing ominously. Fortunately, the giant monster showed no interest in the small spacecraft, which relieved me.
When the small spacecraft circled behind the giant monster, a problem arose. The reconnaissance ship Gyogal was flying nearby. Thanks to that, my fear of the giant monster began to fade.
“It’s the reconnaissance ship Gyogal. What are they doing?”
“They’re probably monitoring the movements of the Orc fleet and the giant monster. This is bad; Gyogal seems to be preparing to attack.”
The reconnaissance ship Gyogal fired its laser cannons. Salio hurriedly began to change the trajectory of the small spacecraft using the propulsion system.
“Zen, counterattack!”
I heard Sario’s voice, which sounded like a scream over the speaker. That made me recall the last moments of Berta, Liet, and Dimas.
“Let’s do this!”
I readjusted myself in the combat room chair and focused on the reconnaissance ship Gyogal. Valbo, the commander of the reconnaissance unit, should be aboard. I couldn’t forgive him.
I opened the power conduit control gate to release level T and absorbed Bosol particles and Celestial wave force energy. I actually wanted to set it to release level 1, but I could only control Celestial wave force energy up to release level T for now. The Celestial Wave Force Drive has an acceleration field circuit, so it’s an exception.
The distance to the reconnaissance ship Gyogal was about forty kilometers. At this distance, hitting it with particle shots would be difficult.
I formed the Bosol particles into particle shots and fired one toward Gyogal using the Celestial wave force. The particle shot flew, emitting a faint yellow light, passing more than a hundred meters away from the reconnaissance ship Gyogal.
In retaliation, a laser was fired, passing right by the small spacecraft. If it had hit, Salio and I would have been dead. Fear surged within me, but I recalled Berta and the others. I used that fear to fuel my anger and focus on the fight.
“Steady aim!”
I heard Salio’s voice. Even so, the distance was too great. Another laser attack came from the reconnaissance ship Gyogal, narrowly missing me.
The laser was practically invisible, but since receiving the “Higher-Dimensional Access Method” from Zorofiene, I had become sensitive to high-energy presences.
I continued to fire particle shots at the reconnaissance ship. Gyogal returned fire, but perhaps due to poor targeting system performance, they missed every shot. Frustrated, the reconnaissance ship Gyogal began to close in.
“Sario, if this turns into a full-blown battle, won’t we attract the giant monster’s attention?”
I asked Sario about my concern.
“No, it seems the Orc fleet and the giant monster are about to start fighting themselves. It should be fine.”
Hearing that, I stared intently at the reconnaissance ship Gyogal. Meanwhile, the laser cannon attacks continued. However, the small spacecraft was changing its trajectory rapidly, so they couldn’t hit us.
I extended my right arm, forming my hand into a finger gun, and carefully aimed at the reconnaissance ship Gyogal, firing a particle shot. Again, I missed. Then, the reconnaissance ship launched a high-speed missile.
This is bad. I waited for the high-speed missile to approach, drawing it in before firing a particle shot at it. Fortunately, the particle shot hit, causing the high-speed missile to explode.
Captain Boburo, whose expensive high-speed missile had been intercepted, seemed furious. Recklessly, he decided to close in and try to take us out with laser cannons. I took a deep breath while watching the approaching reconnaissance ship Gyogal.
I was determined to avenge Berta and the others. That thought swelled within me. At that moment, my anger toward the Goblin race overshadowed my fear.
The emotion of anger triggered a surge in my spirit, heightening my concentration. I could see the reconnaissance ship Gyogal clearly now, and I aimed to fire a particle shot. Still, the issue of distance remained, so luck was necessary for scoring a hit.
It seemed I had luck on my side. The particle shot struck near the stern of the reconnaissance ship. Since it was fired with release level T Celestial wave force energy, the explosive power was limited. The explosion dented part of the engine, rendering it inoperable, causing the enemy ship to slow down.
“Sario, can we reduce speed?”
“No! We have to keep up with the giant monster!”
“Damn it.”
I glared at the reconnaissance ship Gyogal, which was gradually pulling away, feeling frustrated.
