Fell in Love with the Crazy Young Lady - Chapter 13
“Degenerate?”
Yang Zhao mercilessly grabbed the woman’s hair, her face icy as she demanded, “Working for me makes someone a degenerate?”
The woman shrieked.
There was a dangerous madness about the young mistress, making it seem like she was capable of even murder.
Hua Man immediately recalled Zhao Yang from the banquet incident and quickly reached out to grab her. “Young Mistress.”
Unfortunately, Yang Zhao shot her a cold glare and snapped, “Shut up if you don’t want to die.”
With that, she shook off Hua Man’s hand and dragged the woman by the hair, slamming her head against the nearby counter.
Screams erupted around them, and many turned to look.
“What counts as not being degenerate, then?”
“What, is being with you something to brag about?”
“How noble are you? Haven’t enough people ended up in the hospital because of you?”
He Qiuyan was clearly dazed from the impact. A red bump swelled on her forehead, the skin broken, and crimson bl00d trickled down.
Hua Man’s eyelid twitched violently. She knew if she didn’t intervene now, things would escalate beyond control.
She stepped forward again, gripping Yang Zhao’s wrist tightly and squeezing with force.
Yang Zhao winced in pain and instinctively let go.
Furious, she spat, “You dare side with an outsider?!”
And this was already the second time!
Hua Man felt it necessary to remind her: “Assault is illegal.”
Especially since she suspected that if left unchecked, this young mistress might even resort to murder.
Given her ruthlessness, she truly didn’t seem to value human life.
No sooner had she spoken than someone timidly chimed in, “You really should stop fighting. I’ve already called the police.”
Yang Zhao immediately glared in that direction.
Hua Man also turned to look at the brave soul who had diverted some of the heat—a young woman in a server’s uniform, her eyes still holding the fearless naivety unique to college students.
“The police?” Yang Zhao sneered. “I have an undefeated legal team. You think I’m afraid of the police?”
This outlaw’s declaration made Hua Man’s head throb even harder.
Not wanting to hear any more of her arrogant remarks, Hua Man stepped forward to help He Qiuyan, who was still slumped on the floor.
He Qiuyan was her schoolmate, and Hua Man had always disliked her.
For the past year, the woman had been relentlessly pursuing her, claiming to be madly in love and begging Hua Man to be her girlfriend—all while never being single herself. She was notorious for cycling through partners at a rapid pace, equally infamous for dating both men and women.
But even so, that didn’t justify the young mistress’s violence.
Assault was illegal. It could land someone in jail.
“Yang Zhao! Don’t push your luck!” He Qiuyan clutched her bleeding forehead, gnashing her teeth. “Mark my words, this isn’t over! You think you’re the only one with a legal team?!”
“Fine.” Yang Zhao nodded. “I’ll be waiting for yours.”
Then she turned to Hua Man. “Are you her bodyguard or mine?”
Hua Man pressed her lips together. “You don’t seem to need my protection.”
If Yang Zhao hadn’t been her employer, Hua Man might have been blunter—the ones who needed protection were everyone else.
Yang Zhao stared at her coldly for a few seconds before ignoring her and pulling out her phone to notify her team.
The police arrived quickly, and Yang Zhao was inevitably taken to the station.
When had Yang Zhao ever suffered such humiliation?
In the past, she had always acted with bold confidence, knowing Yu Shan would cover for her no matter what. This was the first time she’d been invited for a “tea session” at the police station.
Inside the station, He Qiuyan was still shouting about refusing to settle and wanting to teach her a lesson. Yang Zhao coldly sneered, “Idiot.”
A fool who only knew about romance, completely unaware that the He family had been trying to collaborate with the Yang family recently. Just a while ago, the two families had finalized a major business deal.
Yang Zhao didn’t believe the He family would offend her over such a fool.
Her “idiot” remark clearly struck a nerve. He Qiuyan froze momentarily before immediately standing up: “Yang Zhao!”
Just as she was about to charge forward, someone suddenly stepped in front of Yang Zhao.
He Qiuyan’s anger faltered slightly before she suddenly realized something and exclaimed joyfully: “Hua Man! You actually helped me back at Clearwater Pavilion! Does this mean you have feelings for me?”
At these words, Yang Zhao’s expression turned even frostier.
Whether Hua Man had feelings for that idiot He Qiuyan or not, she had crossed Yang Zhao’s bottom line.
Betrayal. The very thing she despised most.
Hua Man had essentially slapped her in the face—taking her salary while openly helping someone else right before her eyes.
Such a person… such a person shouldn’t remain by her side.
Yang Zhao’s gloomy gaze fell on He Qiuyan’s face. She thought, perhaps she could just have someone deal with this idiot. Though the cleanup would be troublesome, if He Qiuyan no longer existed in this world, would that mean Hua Man hadn’t actually betrayed her?
“I didn’t help you.”
Hua Man’s voice pulled her back from her thoughts.
Liar. She clearly had.
“I just didn’t want my employer to dirty her hands and get a criminal record because of you.”
Seizing this opportunity, Hua Man felt it necessary to reiterate her stance: “I would never work for you. Not even if you offered a hundred times my current salary. Some of what I’m about to say might be rude, but I need to say it…”
“Honestly, every conversation with you makes me feel nauseous. Sometimes even breathing the same air as you makes me uncomfortable. More than money, I value my life.”
Yang Zhao’s mood instantly brightened.
In stark contrast, He Qiuyan’s face turned even uglier than when Yang Zhao had punched her earlier. Gnashing her teeth in rage, she spat: “Hua Man! Don’t you dare disrespect me like this!”
Hua Man couldn’t be bothered to engage further.
These were words she’d long wanted to say to He Qiuyan. The woman had absolutely no sense of boundaries, never considering others’ feelings. She’d even once publicly confessed her feelings in front of an entire lecture hall of students and professors.
Time and again in public settings, she’d put Hua Man in extremely awkward situations, all while smugly believing her actions were romantic.
Many at school had mistakenly assumed Hua Man was one of He Qiuyan’s girlfriends, causing her no small amount of trouble. Had her advisor not happened to be He Qiuyan’s aunt, she would have said all this much sooner.
Now that she’d graduated, there was no need to hold back anymore.
Unexpectedly, the person behind her suddenly spoke up: “Who’s the disrespectful one here? If your mouth’s so idle, go lick a toilet. Don’t stand there spewing diarrhea like you’ve taken laxatives.”
Hua Man immediately fell silent, unable to resist glancing back at the young mistress.
These two sentences clearly packed quite the punch. He Qiuyan turned green with rage, stammering “you… you…” without managing to spit anything coherent out.
Yang Zhao’s so-called legal team arrived belatedly.
He Qiu Yan’s father also rushed over. Hua Man watched as He Qiu Yan went from being arrogantly defiant to being forced to apologize to Yang Zhao—all within less than five minutes.
Naturally, the young mistress wouldn’t let it go so easily. She completely ignored He Qiu Yan’s father and turned to leave without another word.
Hua Man instinctively followed but stopped after a few steps.
After what she had done, could she still stay by the young mistress’s side?
Both Yu Shan and the young mistress herself had said it before—the young mistress despised betrayal above all else. No matter her intentions in stopping the young mistress earlier, she had still betrayed her.
She didn’t believe the young mistress would let her off so easily.
If she followed her back now, she might end up like that woman she had seen on her first day at the Yang residence—disposed of without a second thought.
After all, this young mistress had no regard for the law. She was practically an outlaw.
“What are you standing there for?”
Seeing that Hua Man hadn’t followed, Yang Zhao’s expression darkened. Why did she always have to turn back and call for her?
“Young Mistress,” Hua Man took a deep breath and reminded her, “It’s my off-duty hours now.”
“What?” Yang Zhao froze.
“And you gave me the day off today.”
Only then did Yang Zhao realize what Hua Man was implying. She let out an incredulous laugh. “Hua Man, I haven’t even settled accounts with you yet, and you’re pulling this stunt?”
She took a step forward.
Unfortunately, Hua Man immediately took a step back.
Yang Zhao narrowed her eyes. Was Hua Man… afraid of her?
“Idiot.” Her anger flared, nowhere to vent. “Did they cut your brain out along with the umbilical cord when you were born? Get over here!”
Hua Man: “…”
After a moment’s hesitation, she finally approached.
The moment she stopped, the young mistress raised her hand.
Hua Man clenched her fists, resisting the urge to dodge.
A slap would be better than whatever other punishment awaited her, right?
But the expected strike never landed. Instead, her right cheek was pinched and pulled, distorting her face.
“Hua Man, your salary’s being docked.”
Satisfied at finally seeing some reaction on that wooden face, Yang Zhao withdrew her hand.
–
Hua Man had considered the possibility of being fired, of facing all sorts of retaliation from the young mistress—but she never expected her punishment to be a salary deduction.
Yet that was exactly what happened.
A significant portion of her hard-earned wages from her week at the Yang residence was gone in a single night, setting her back to square one.
“Don’t look so down. Even though your pay was cut, you still have your job, and the young mistress didn’t punish you further. That’s already pretty good.”
In the staff cafeteria, Gao Yan Hua tried to console her.
Hua Man nodded half-heartedly. “Mm.”
Her real concern wasn’t the lost wages—it was the fact that after such a major mistake, the young mistress had let her off so lightly.
There had to be something more to it. The thought filled her with unease.
“But weren’t you off yesterday? How did you end up with the young mistress?” Gao Yan Hua asked, curiosity piqued. “I heard the legal team was called in. Did the young mistress get into serious trouble?”
Hua Man: “Sorry, I can’t discuss that.”
Though disappointed, Gao Yan Hua didn’t press further. She nodded. “Alright, I understand.”
“Though I reckon it must be something serious. They say when the young mistress returned last night, her face was awful. She stayed up very late, flew into a rage several times, and had everyone walking on eggshells,” Gao Yanhua said with a sigh. “If it weren’t for the high salary, I really wouldn’t want to work here.”
Hua Man didn’t respond.
She couldn’t figure out Yang Zhao at all now.
At first, she thought the young mistress was ruthless and vicious—a complete madwoman, difficult to serve. Later, she felt the young mistress just had a bad temper but was actually decent at heart. Though prone to outbursts, she could be soothed and wasn’t petty.
But now… Recalling the young mistress’s behavior yesterday, Hua Man frowned with a headache.
She still thought she should resign.
After all, no matter what, Qin Fangqin wouldn’t help her contact the dean again, right?
She shouldn’t have pinned her hopes on others.
As for Hua Xi’s future, she would leave it to fate. She had already done all she could.
