- Chapter 13.2 - The Protagonist, Mounted Archery, and Magic
This afternoon’s class was my first experience with mounted archery. The other students rode their horses with confidence, drawing their bows effortlessly. Their skill was dazzling to watch.
For me, however, handling a bow and arrow was completely new. My first attempt, after receiving instruction from Lady Lilia, resulted in my arrow flying in the wrong direction entirely. The difficulty of controlling both the horse and the bow simultaneously quickly became apparent. As my classmates consistently hit their targets, I could only feel an increasing sense of frustration.
By the time the lesson ended, I hadn’t landed a single shot. I felt terrible for letting Lady Lilia down, so I decided to stay behind for extra practice. Following her advice, I first focused on hitting the target while standing still, without the added challenge of riding. Lady Lilia stayed with me, watching over me with a warm gaze that gave me strength.
Then, at last, it happened—my arrow finally struck the target. A rush of joy surged through me.
“Lady Lilia! I did it! I finally hit the target!”
“Congratulations. You worked hard for this.”
She praised me. That alone made my heart soar. When she gently patted my head, the sensation was so blissful that it felt like a dream.
But that peaceful moment was soon interrupted by a male student who introduced himself as Vein. He had red eyes and short, spiky red hair that pointed skyward. Unlike Lady Lilia’s ruby-like eyes, his had a fierce, fiery intensity. The way he looked at me, his words and gaze filled with interest in me as a woman, made me shrink back. Instinctively, I hid behind Lady Lilia’s back.
With my hand resting against her dependable figure, I managed to calm myself enough to listen to their conversation.
“Hey, don’t butt in where you don’t belong.”
“I have every reason to be involved. Liel, the one behind me, is… mine.”
Her words made my heart race. They unsettled me, yet at the same time, I felt a surge of joy.
If I was considered her possession, then maybe—even as a commoner—I could stay by her side even after graduation. If that meant being treated as her belonging, then so be it. I wanted nothing more than to be cherished by Lady Lilia in that way.
I found myself in an absurd daydream, one where I was sitting sideways on Lady Lilia’s lap. She looked at me with a graceful smile.
“I feel like playing a little. Liel, open your mouth.”
I did as I was told, and she slid two fingers—her index and middle—inside.
“Mmph…!”
She traced the inside of my cheeks, brushed against my gums, and ran her fingers over my teeth as though she were brushing them. The overwhelming sensation sent a shiver down my spine, and saliva pooled in my mouth.
Then, just as suddenly, she withdrew her fingers. They were glistening with my drool.
“You dirtied them. Clean them with your tongue.”
“Yes…”
I obediently ran my tongue along her slender, elegant fingers, savoring the sensation. I tried to clean them properly, but the more I licked, the more saliva coated them. Lady Lilia let out an exasperated sigh and pulled her hand away.
“What a troublesome thing you are. Since it’s your own fluid, I’ll have to return it to you… Spread your legs.”
Just as her fingers reached into my—
—Wait, what?!
I had completely lost myself in a delusion.
…Yeah. I was fine with being Lady Lilia’s possession.
“I am Lady Lilia’s, body and soul! I exist solely to be her plaything!”
Before I even realized it, Lady Lilia and Vein had ended up competing in mounted archery—with me as the wager. I felt guilty for causing such a hassle and apologized.
“Liel, this isn’t your fault. Just believe in me and pray for my victory.”
“Yes! I believe in you, Lady Lilia! You never lose!”
“Today, I am invincible. After all, I have the graceful goddess of victory by my side.”
She gently cupped my cheek. My body, prone to heating up so easily, welcomed the cool touch of her hand.
Once again, her words had pierced my heart. If I were a target, then ever since meeting Lady Lilia, I would’ve been riddled with so many arrows that I’d look like a pincushion.
The competition was a best-of-three match, and Lady Lilia won with two victories to one. The wind-infused arrows she used and the blazing arrows Vein fired were equally powerful and awe-inspiring. If only I could use magic like that—it would be amazing.
“That was incredible, Lady Lilia! Everything about it was amazing!”
I still couldn’t believe what I had witnessed in the final round. Lady Lilia had stood at the starting line without moving, then used magic to control her arrow, guiding it to the target with perfect precision.
…Was that even allowed in mounted archery?
I chose not to question it.
“This victory is for you, Liel. Will you accept it?”
Her radiant smile made my heart flutter. Her gaze, playful yet affectionate, sent my emotions into a spiral.
“I will… I accept it with all my heart.”
Vein, having lost, quietly walked away. Though I had been the wager in this duel, he had barely paid attention to me beyond the initial challenge. From start to finish, his focus had been on Lady Lilia. In the end, I was just background noise.
But that didn’t matter.
Because I belonged to Lady Lilia.
“Even if it was just to provoke Vein, I shouldn’t have said that you were mine. I’m sorry.”
“Huh? Ah… Oh… No, it’s fine. I didn’t mind.”
I understood that Lady Lilia had only referred to me as her “possession” as a joke to provoke Vein. Still, a part of me had been genuinely happy to hear those words, which made her apology feel somewhat bittersweet.
In the next mounted archery lesson, I decided to try creating a magical bow and arrow. My admiration for the enchanted arrows that Lady Lilia and Vein had used during their duel hadn’t faded in the slightest.
Thanks to both my lessons and Lady Lilia’s personal tutoring, my magical abilities and control had improved tremendously since I first enrolled. Believing in my progress, I poured my effort into the task, and before long, I succeeded in creating a bow made of light.
The arrow, however, was much more challenging. When I tried to construct it from scratch, the tip kept crumbling before it could fully take form. Infusing a regular arrow with light magic also proved unstable—the magical energy wouldn’t settle properly, making it difficult to control.
After much trial and error, I finally found a method that worked. By using an arrowhead or even small stones as a focal point, I was able to shape a fully-formed arrow of light. Seeing my long-held admiration take form through my own efforts filled me with joy.
And, of course, I wanted Lady Lilia’s praise. I eagerly reported my success, and my wish was granted.
“You worked hard. That’s admirable. Good girl.”
As she gently stroked my head, I couldn’t stop smiling. When she moved to caress my chin and throat as well, I melted under her touch, savoring it until she finally pulled away. My efforts had definitely been worth it.
After praising me, she also gave me some advice. Naming a spell could help with stability, especially when I was still getting used to it.
Now, what should I call this magic bow and arrow of light?
