Flirting Under Favor (GL) - Chapter 10
Mu Fan saw Wang Lin’s distress and guessed that she must be stuck on a leveling path and needed help.
Seeing Wang Lin’s pitiful expression, she couldn’t help but want to fulfill the girl’s expectation. So she ate the last bite of noodles, collected Wang Lin’s bowl along with hers, and placed them in the kitchen.
Wang Lin’s eyes followed her movements, and she pursed her lips. Mu Fan said she still had to wash the dishes, so she’d have to wait a little longer. She had been beaten by a boss on the leveling path for a long time and couldn’t get past it. She was both angry and wronged. She was mentally prepared to wait, but then saw that Mu Fan didn’t prepare to wash the dishes. After coming out of the kitchen, Mu Fan tilted her head and said to her: “Let’s go, I’ll take you to play the game.”
“Huh? Aren’t you going to wash the dishes?”
Mu Fan said: “It’s okay to let them sit for a bit.”
Clearly, Mu Fan had temporarily abandoned the plan to wash the dishes in order to take her to play the game. A sense of being valued and cared for blossomed in Wang Lin’s heart, and two small dimples appeared on her face: “Mhm.” She quickly ran to the desk in the bedroom and sat down. Mu Fan pulled over a chair, sat next to her, and turned on her own computer. While the computer was booting up, she leaned over to Wang Lin to check on her game progress. The map showed Chang’an, level 40. She was clearly a noob just out of her martial arts school.
“It’s him,” Wang Lin pointed to the Langya Army on the screen that had beaten her numerous times, gritting her teeth with hatred.
“That’s easy to beat,” Mu Fan glanced at it. It was a very simple elite mob, not difficult at all.
“I’m a noob, though,” Wang Lin scratched at the keyboard, disheartened.
Newcomers usually don’t even recognize all their skills. If they just click whatever lights up, it’s expected that they can’t win. “Let me help you beat it.” Mu Fan quickly logged into the game, her fingers clattering on the keyboard.
“Ding-a-ling.” A notification sound rang in Wang Lin’s game.
A message popped up on the screen: [“Pigeon” has added you as a friend. Do you want to add “Pigeon” as a friend?]
“Ding-a-ling.”
[Pigeon invites you to form a team.]
“Ding-a-ling.”
[Pigeon wants to accept you as their personal disciple.]
A series of messages popped up on Wang Lin’s screen, leaving her a bit confused. Mu Fan said in time: “That’s me. Agree to all of them.”
Wang Lin did as she was told. Mu Fan leaned over again, instructing Wang Lin on the controls: “Here, here, click Summon. I’ll appear right next to you.”
The indoor lighting was soft. Mu Fan patiently taught Wang Lin some basic things. Time passed without them noticing.
“When you’re about to land, use Nie Yun [a movement skill] or hit the spacebar, and you won’t die from the fall.”
“The Merchant can repair your equipment.”
“You can only play this when you reach max level, and this one too.”
“You need to level up quickly to max level so you can play these things with me.”
…
“Leveling up is so slow. Is there anything I can eat that will instantly get me to max level?” Wang Lin found the leveling quests a bit boring, so she asked.
“There are, but it’s best to level up by killing monsters yourself to get familiar with the controls. Plus, some of the story plots are worth watching.”
…
In the end, Wang Lin decided she wanted to buy an Instant Level-Up Pill (Direct Ascent Pill). She didn’t care about controls or plot; she just wanted to play with Mu Fan quickly. When checking out, she asked: “Does this game cost money?”
“Generally not much. It’s mainly for buying outfits, which are like clothes.”
Wang Lin nodded, and entered an amount of 5000 for the top-up. Mu Fan didn’t notice, and she had already paid.
Mu Fan mentally went, emmm.
Okay, tycoon.
“50 is enough; you don’t need that much.”
“I’m buying clothes. I love buying clothes when I play dress-up games.”
Fine.
So Wang Lin quickly grasped the core gameplay of J3—outfits.
“This is pretty, buy.”
“This is so cute, buy.”
“This is nice too, buy.”
…
Wang Lin quickly became a flashy-looking noob.
“Does it look good?”
Mu Fan: “…”
“Your outfit looks good too! Where is it? I want to buy it,” Wang Lin asked, gazing at Mu Fan’s character on the screen.
“Mine is the School Set (faction uniform). You can’t buy it. You can only buy your own school’s uniform.”
“Uniform? Where is my school uniform then?”
“Here.” Mu Fan helped Wang Lin find the uniform interface.
Just now, Wang Lin had asked Mu Fan if her own mix-and-match was pretty, and Mu Fan hadn’t commented, which disappointed Wang Lin a little. So this time, she directly asked Mu Fan: “Which set do you like?”
“This one, maybe.”
“Okay, buy.” Wang Lin clicked the mouse, but a message popped up saying she didn’t have enough War Gear Schematics (Bingjia Tupu).
“You have to collect these first before you can imprint them.”
Wang Lin didn’t yet understand what collecting and imprinting meant; she only cared about how to get the War Gear Schematics.
“Can I buy them?”
“No,” Mu Fan answered truthfully.
“Then how do I get them~” Wang Lin was a little disappointed.
“There’s no Beauty Picture [a daily quest] today. Let’s go do the Treasure Cave [digging] instead. The little mobs in the Treasure Cave drop those.”
Immediately after, Mu Fan took Wang Lin to the holy land of treasure digging, Tangmen’s Wendaopo.
Mu Fan shouted in the map chat: “Buying cave for 1500.”
After Wang Lin learned what “buying a cave” meant, she shouted in the map chat: “Buying cave for 5000.”
Ding-a-ling, ding-a-ling, ding-a-ling.
A string of team invites and encrypted private messages followed.
Mu Fan: “…”
After quickly lying down (clearing) a few Treasure Caves, Wang Lin had several hundred War Gear Schematics. Her starting funds from the Instant Level-Up Pill were also spent. She successfully bought and wore the He Meng uniform set, hopped around Mu Fan’s character a couple of times, grinning. Her little Hua Luo (the character) was absolutely adorable!
“Does it look good? Does it look good?”
“It looks good.” With Mu Fan’s confirmation, Wang Lin’s eyes curved into crescent moons.
There wasn’t much more to teach in a short time. Most importantly, many things were best discovered through personal exploration. Mu Fan looked at the time and said: “It’s getting late. Let’s play again tomorrow.”
Wang Lin was a little reluctant, her head still glued to the screen.
“Be good.”
“Then I’ll come see you again tomorrow.”
“You don’t need to travel so far. I’ll message you when I log into the game. We can talk on the phone too. Go take a shower.”
Wang Lin thought about it and agreed. Mu Fan’s place was too far.
“You go first.” Wang Lin kept her head towards the computer, moving the mouse back and forth, trying to play for a little longer while Mu Fan showered.
“I shower very quickly,” Mu Fan said pointedly.
“Mhm.” Wang Lin responded casually, a perfect example of someone addicted to games. Mu Fan could only smile and leave the bedroom.
About ten minutes later, Mu Fan returned after showering. Wang Lin couldn’t delay any longer, obediently shut down the computer, and scurried into the bathroom to shower. When she returned, Mu Fan was leaning against the pillow, reading a book. Wang Lin climbed into bed and stared at her expectantly.
Her eyes spoke volumes. Mu Fan immediately understood what she was thinking and gave a gentle smile. She changed to a more comfortable position, picked up the hairdryer, and started to dry her hair.
Wang Lin sat in Mu Fan’s lap like a good child.
As soon as the hairdryer’s sound stopped after drying her hair, Wang Lin turned and threw her arms around Mu Fan’s slender waist. Caught completely off guard, Mu Fan was once again pounced upon and knocked down onto the bed by Wang Lin.
Wang Lin buried her head in Mu Fan’s chest, rubbing against her and murmuring: “Mu Fan, you’re so nice.”
It felt like a fire igniting in her heart. Mu Fan’s skin was scalding hot, and Wang Lin’s hands seemed to carry their own electric current, making her feel soft and powerless all over. One sentence almost slipped out: Are all you straight girls like this?!
After Wang Lin held her for a moment, Mu Fan took a deep breath, pushed Wang Lin away, and said: “What am I good at? Why are you so clingy?”
Wang Lin took the opportunity to flip over and roll under the covers: “Don’t you like it?” She knew she was clingy; she couldn’t help it with people she was close to, yet she was quiet and reserved with strangers, like two extremes. She asked cautiously, afraid Mu Fan would say no.
Mu Fan couldn’t answer that question. She paused, unwilling to hurt her, and could only say vaguely: “You always catch me by surprise.”
Wang Lin recalled the scene from this morning and said: “Our hair won’t get tangled again tonight, will it? I don’t want to go bald.”
Mu Fan adjusted her collar and said: “It’s a small probability event. It shouldn’t happen again. Lie down properly; I’m turning off the light.”
She turned off the light and lay down. She felt the person next to her move, and then a source of heat moved closer: Wang Lin was pressing against her.
Mu Fan didn’t dare to move. She had slept with other girls before, and it was always very normal. It was just never this awkward with Wang Lin, or made her feel this guilty.
“Mu Fan,” Wang Lin called out softly.
“Hmm, what is it?”
A moment of silence.
“I’m cold.”
A clumsy lie. Mu Fan recognized it instantly. The air conditioner was on; she shouldn’t be cold. But she didn’t expose the lie. The girl’s voice was thin and delicate, like a cat’s paw lightly scratching at her heart. Her breathing quickened, and her heart rate sped up. Mu Fan’s body shifted, then stopped, shifted again, and finally, with a desperate abandon, she turned over and pulled the girl into her embrace.
As she held her, she heard the person in her arms giggle twice.
Mu Fan asked: “What are you laughing about?”
“Nothing,” Wang Lin said.
A moment later, Wang Lin said softly again: “I’m just happy.”
