Flirting Under Favor (GL) - Chapter 18
“Then which one are you?” Wang Lin asked.
Mu Fan’s voice was a little hoarse, as if it took great effort to say: “Whichever one you are, that’s the one I am.”
Which one am I?
Wang Lin asked herself, but she couldn’t express it clearly, so she just said foolishly: “I just like being with you. I feel very relaxed and content.” After she spoke, there was a long silence.
Mu Fan was both disappointed and relieved. After a long pause, she said: “I’m going to K City tomorrow.”
“Huh? What for?”
“I have a project I need to take charge of.”
Wang Lin’s eyes darted around. She guessed it was Zhao Zilei’s arrangement, but she pretended not to know: “When will you be back?”
“If things go smoothly, a little over a month.”
Mu Fan finished calmly, but Wang Lin was no longer calm. She shot up from the bed, not expecting such a big reaction from herself. After sitting up, she felt a little dazed.
That Zhao Zilei!
She hadn’t expected it to be for so long. She felt like she had dug her own hole, and she wanted to cry.
She looked at Mu Fan’s calm face and said gloomily: “That long.”
She lay back under the covers, unable to accept the fact that Mu Fan was leaving tomorrow for a whole month. She felt so miserable she wanted to cry. So, Mu Fan’s invitation was just for a farewell.
She reached for her phone beside the pillow, opened the map, typed in K City, searched, and selected driving directions. It showed a four-hour drive.
Not too far, thankfully.
“Mhm, I might be very busy, so I won’t have time to play with you,” Mu Fan said.
Wang Lin turned off her phone and tossed it aside.
“It’s okay. I can play by myself.”
Her voice was thick with a strong nasal tone and carried a hint of sulking. She even turned her body to the side, facing away from Mu Fan. Mu Fan keenly noticed her change in mood and comforted her gently: “I’ll try my best to finish my work early and make time. Plus, a month will pass quickly.” She leaned to the side and poked her small shoulder, “Mhm?”
Wang Lin turned around, glanced at her gloomily, and squeezed into her arms, saying nothing.
The next morning, after breakfast, Mu Fan began packing her luggage. Wang Lin was in low spirits the whole time, reluctantly helping out.
The train was scheduled to depart in the afternoon. After packing, Mu Fan sat on the sofa, looking at various reports and documents. Wang Lin rested her head on Mu Fan’s lap, playing with her phone, silently brewing the emotions of separation. This was their last time together.
When it was noon, the two ate lunch together, then poured all the remaining food into the trash can.
It was time to go. Mu Fan checked the windows and the power strips, and double-checked the things she needed to take. Wang Lin offered to drive her to the station, and Mu Fan didn’t refuse.
After locking the door, Wang Lin stood still at the doorway, dazed. This place—she wouldn’t be able to come here for a month. She felt very sad. Mu Fan tugged her arm, and she reluctantly followed Mu Fan downstairs, driving Mu Fan away from this remote and old residential area.
The car shuttled through the city, heading towards the station. At a certain point, Wang Lin stopped the car.
“Why did you stop?” Mu Fan asked.
Wang Lin pointed outside the car, her eyes sparkling, saying excitedly: “Look, this is where we met.”
That corner, which had been covered with plain silver snow then, looked completely different now. Mu Fan had been running too fast at the time and didn’t remember this spot, but Wang Lin did.
She looked at Mu Fan, seeking her reaction.
“I was running too fast then, I don’t remember it.”
“Right.” Wang Lin turned her head to look at the steering wheel, nodding.
Before the traffic police could arrive to give her a ticket, the car started moving again. The closer they got to the station, the slower Wang Lin drove. She really wanted to just stop, but eventually, the car pulled into a parking lot near the station. Mu Fan tried to open the door to get out, but it was locked.
“Wang Lin,” she called softly.
The door unlocked.
Mu Fan got out of the car, retrieved her suitcase from the trunk. The wind was still strong and cold, and she wrapped her clothes tightly around herself.
Wang Lin walked over, her mood gloomy, her head bowed low. Mu Fan wanted to reach out and pull her, but her hand moved and then stopped.
“Let’s go,” she said.
Wang Lin moved closer, grabbing Mu Fan’s arm: “Oh.”
The suitcase wheels made a rumbling sound. Wang Lin found it incredibly irritating; her head was splitting.
Squeezing into the station square, Mu Fan went to collect her ticket, leaving Wang Lin behind to watch the luggage, instructing her not to wander off. As Mu Fan left, Wang Lin felt increasingly sad watching the suitcase. On the large screen, it showed that Mu Fan’s train had already started boarding, with half an hour left until the gate closed.
The sorrow of parting overflowed in her heart.
Mu Fan returned with her ticket, glanced at the big screen, and then looked at Wang Lin, hesitant to speak.
“You should go,” Wang Lin said proactively, kicking the raised gaps in the floor tiles with the tip of her shoe, her head bowed.
She felt miserable. The thought that she was the one who personally sent Mu Fan off to K City drove her crazy.
“I don’t want you to go.” Wang Lin honestly expressed her feelings, then added, “But this should be a rare opportunity. Your boss values you.”
“Mhm, I didn’t expect it either…”
“Go for it.” Wang Lin encouraged her.
The two reluctantly said goodbye, lingering for a while. Mu Fan checked the time: “I really have to go now.”
“Mhm.” Wang Lin was not an unreasonable child. At this point, she could only nod.
Mu Fan breathed a sigh of relief. She walked two steps, but then Wang Lin’s voice came from behind.
“That,”
Mu Fan turned her head.
Wang Lin continued: “Can you, kiss me?”
Her head was bowed as low as it could go when she said this, feeling it was a very excessive and shameful request. But she had wanted to kiss Mu Fan last night but didn’t have the courage. Now that Mu Fan was leaving, since she didn’t dare to kiss Mu Fan herself, she might as well ask Mu Fan to kiss her.
Mu Fan was completely stunned by her request, standing still for a long time.
Seeing no movement from Mu Fan, Wang Lin looked up, gathered tremendous courage, and whispered weakly: “Please?”
Her pitiful little gaze seemed to hold a magical power. How could Mu Fan bear to refuse? Her hand holding the suitcase unconsciously let go. An invisible force seemed to push her forward from behind.
She walked up to the girl. Wang Lin looked up to meet her eyes, which held a myriad of captivating brilliance.
Mu Fan cupped Wang Lin’s face in her hands, as if holding a peerless treasure, cherishing, thoughtful, and careful.
She said: “I’m wearing lipstick. You don’t want to go back with a lip print on you, do you?”
Wang Lin was startled, realizing that this was indeed a problem.
Mu Fan’s voice was soft, carrying a fatal seduction.
“Fine then.”
“I’m not wearing any,” Wang Lin suddenly said.
Before Mu Fan could react, Wang Lin moved forward, tilted her head back, and quickly gave Mu Fan a smacking kiss on the cheek.
Having done the deed, Wang Lin stepped back a few steps.
Mu Fan stiffly touched her cheek with her hand. Wang Lin’s lips had only touched her lightly, but her skin seemed to remember the sensation of that instant: it was soft and tender.
Her cheek was burning, unable to calm down for a long time, but she couldn’t show any unusual reaction in front of Wang Lin.
Wang Lin smiled, sweeping away all her previous gloom and sadness: “Go now.”
Mu Fan nodded. If she didn’t leave now, it would truly be too late. She turned around, pulled her suitcase, and walked toward the waiting area.
Watching Mu Fan disappear into the crowd, the smile on Wang Lin’s face did not fade. Kissing Mu Fan had put her in a great mood. If there weren’t so many people around, she would have happily shouted out loud.
I got a kiss!
Having achieved her wish, Wang Lin suddenly found everything around her pleasing to the eye. The sky was bluer, the trees were greener, and she even imagined the dirty trash can as a cartoon character.
