Flirting Under Favor (GL) - Chapter 22
She pushed the phone back, saying casually, “Mhm, I’ll take a look later.”
Li Ruhuan, knowing that aggressively promoting something is never a good idea, didn’t mind much. She nodded and continued to look at the screen while eating.
Wang Lin took out her phone from her bag, opened a certain chat app, clicked on Mu Fan’s profile, and clicked on her avatar.
On the screen was an ancient-style woman holding a small girl. She was certain that this illustration was by the same author as the cover of the book Li Ruhuan had just recommended.
She handed her phone to Li Ruhuan and asked: “Have you seen this picture?”
Li Ruhuan casually glanced at it, then instantly became alert. She hadn’t expected Wang Lin to actually have an illustration from Searching for the Hidden Tomb.
“It’s an illustration from the book I just pointed out to you. How do you have it?”
“An avatar of a friend in my contacts,” Wang Lin answered truthfully.
A glimmer flashed in Li Ruhuan’s eyes: “This friend of yours, they aren’t gay, are they?”
Wang Lin stared blankly at Li Ruhuan, who was also looking at her, holding her chopsticks in her mouth.
Li Ruhuan bit down on her chopsticks and asked: “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, nothing much, just a bit surprised.”
Wang Lin couldn’t remember anything Li Ruhuan said afterward. She was immersed in the shocking speculation behind Mu Fan’s avatar. She had no idea what was taught in class all afternoon.
She recalled every moment she had spent with Mu Fan. She didn’t feel repulsed at all; instead, her heart was inexplicably pounding with nervousness. Mu Fan had done nothing. On the contrary, she had slept in Mu Fan’s bed, hugged her, and clung to her. When Mu Fan left for K City, she had even kissed her. Later, she missed her, cried for her, and called her to cause a scene.
Wang Lin thought, if Mu Fan really liked girls, then what kind of gaze did she use to look at her? She felt those intimate actions were fine, but with what feelings did Mu Fan accept them?
The internet said, “A straight girl who flirts with a lesbian will be struck down by heaven.”
Wang Lin was caught in a dilemma. How should she interact with Mu Fan in the future? She couldn’t go find her, couldn’t hug her, couldn’t cling to her, couldn’t kiss her… Thinking of the kiss, Wang Lin’s face flushed red. She felt she had been too much, yet she also felt an extreme sense of excitement.
Even if Mu Fan was a lesbian, she didn’t want to stay away from Mu Fan! She still missed her and wanted to be with her.
A thought, both frightening and exciting, emerged in her mind: Perhaps, perhaps she liked Mu Fan.
She asked Li Ruhuan what it felt like to like someone. Li Ruhuan was also a “single since birth” girl, but she had read countless books. While she hadn’t eaten pork, she had seen pigs run. Conveniently, in the novel she was recently reading, the female lead had asked the same question when her feelings for the second female lead were just sprouting. After quickly recalling the content of the book, she elaborated to Wang Lin.
“Liking someone is probably feeling very happy and joyful when you’re with her. You want to get close to her, hug her, and even kiss her. When she’s not by your side, you can’t help but miss her, recall every moment you spent with her, and toss and turn, unable to sleep. You laugh for her, cry for her, are happy because of her, and are down because of her. Your entire emotional state is influenced by her. You want to have her all to yourself, feeling she can only belong to you and no one else can touch her…
“Sigh, liking someone is a very simple thing, but describing it is very difficult. It’s always hard to articulate clearly.”
After listening to her, Wang Lin only nodded silently. Although she was naive and had no dating experience, she wasn’t so clueless as to not understand what “like” meant. She had just never thought that two women could… Once this concept formed in her mind, she re-examined her feelings for Mu Fan.
Yes, she liked Mu Fan. She confirmed this bold idea. Her mind was in chaos, and she walked home in a flurry of nervousness.
On the way, she kept thinking about one question:
Did Mu Fan like her?
She had once asked Mu Fan frankly if she liked her, and Mu Fan had answered affirmatively. But now things were different.
Mu Fan said there were many kinds of liking.
Mu Fan also said: Whichever one you are, that’s the one I am.
Lying on the bed after dinner, Wang Lin’s mind was a mess, with only one voice repeating constantly.
I like Mu Fan, I like Mu Fan…
What should I do? I’m missing her again.
I want to find her.
But I’m too timid.
Suddenly, I don’t know how to face her.
She was hesitant and in a deadlock when the Penguin (QQ) call rang out, startling her.
It was Mu Fan.
She anxiously answered the phone, stuttering a little: “Hello, Mu, Mu Fan.” After the panic, came a quiet joy, and her heart sped up. “I was just about to call you, but I was afraid of disturbing your work. Are you done being busy? It’s not even seven yet, so early. I didn’t expect you to call.”
“I was afraid that if I waited any longer, someone would start crying again,” Mu Fan teased her.
Thinking of yesterday’s incident, Wang Lin’s ears felt hot. She said a little sheepishly: “I wouldn’t.”
Mu Fan said: “Then I’ll hang up, okay?”
Hearing Mu Fan threaten to hang up, Wang Lin immediately became anxious, whining: “No-o-o.”
She heard Mu Fan chuckle softly twice, then say: “Then will you call again tomorrow?”
She couldn’t help but act spoiled: “Of course! Every day.” Her heart was pounding. If it were before, she could have said these words calmly. But now that she knew her feelings for Mu Fan, knowing the person listening on the other end was the person she liked, it was completely different. Her heart was filled with nervousness, excitement, joy, and a hint of sweetness.
That was the person she liked. She was flirting with her, and Mu Fan wouldn’t refuse. Her heart felt sweet. It was the first time she had tasted the flavor brought by love. It was wonderful.
Every day? Mu Fan hesitated. She wasn’t one to make promises lightly, so before agreeing to anything, she would always seriously consider whether she could manage it. And calling Wang Lin every day was, frankly, a bit too ambiguous. Although she had feelings for Wang Lin, she hadn’t genuinely thought about pursuing anything with her. But she simply couldn’t refuse Wang Lin. No matter what emotion Wang Lin’s request stemmed from, she couldn’t refuse it.
She only wanted to agree to her, satisfy her, and pamper her…
To make her happy.
She knew that continuing down this path would only lead her deeper, but she was helpless. It was like an addict who knows that continuing to indulge leads to death but still can’t stop.
She couldn’t resist.
Last night, she thought for a long time. She was only a mortal. Even after a completely failed relationship, having her heart scarred and leading to an irreparable heavy price, she still couldn’t completely abandon all worldly desires.
She still yearned.
She told herself: Just let nature take its course.
At least, when she was with Wang Lin, she was happy too.
That was enough.
She gently bit her lower lip and said to Wang Lin: “Okay.”
She resigned herself, thinking: I’ll just be a scummy girl who doesn’t initiate and doesn’t refuse.
Nothing was more exhilarating than receiving a promise from the person you like. The corners of Wang Lin’s mouth couldn’t stop turning up wildly. Her bright eyes seemed to hold thousands of stars.
“It’s a deal then. No backing out.”
“No backing out.”
Wang Lin’s heart was bursting with sweetness. She also considered Mu Fan and told her: “If you really don’t have time sometimes, it’s okay too.”
“Mhm, thank you for your forbearance, my little master.”
Mu Fan’s words amused Wang Lin so much that she couldn’t help but hug her phone and roll around on the bed.
Mu Fan held her phone tightly to her ear, listening to the movement on the bed and Wang Lin’s laughter, her gaze softening.
To make her happy.
That’s enough.
