Flirting Under Favor (GL) - Chapter 37
Wang Lin’s rapid-fire questions made it impossible for Mu Fan’s language to keep up with the answers. She simply tightly gripped Wang Lin’s hand and answered Wang Lin’s last question: “Yes. The same as you.”
Wang Lin looked earnestly into Mu Fan’s eyes, her gaze incredibly resolute: “I’m calling my mom right now.”
“I am willing to face everything with you!”
The two looked at each other. Wang Lin read Mu Fan’s worry in her eyes.
“Don’t worry,” Wang Lin forced a smile to comfort her, saying, “If the result isn’t good, I won’t butt heads directly. I’ll chip away slowly. I know how to use petulance on them. Slowly chipping away, there’s always hope. You have to wait for me, okay? Wait for me to handle my family, and please, don’t give up on me first.”
Mu Fan pulled her into a tight embrace: “Okay.”
They hugged for a while, giving each other final encouragement and courage.
Wang Lin swore in her heart that no matter what, she would never give up on Mu Fan. She didn’t know if Mu Fan felt the same way.
She took out her phone and dialed Lin Jia’s number.
“Mom,” she said, turning on the speakerphone.
“Good daughter, it’s been a long time since you last called me!” Lin Jia’s voice held a loving tone of reproach.
“You’re so busy. I was afraid of disturbing you.”
“You don’t call your grandparents either. Last time Grandma called you, you didn’t talk to her much. She complained for a long time at home, saying her girl was grown up and didn’t miss home anymore.”
“How can you say that? I’m calling now, aren’t I?”
“Mhm. Call your grandma later, too.”
“Okay.”
“Mom, I have something very important I want to tell you.”
“What important thing? You only call when you have something to say, right? Girls really grow up and don’t miss home anymore. Alas.”
“No, no.”
“What is it? Tell me.” Lin Jia said.
“I have someone I like.”
Lin Jia paused: “I knew it! Why else wouldn’t you miss home? So, you’re dating?”
Wang Lin tilted her head and glanced at Mu Fan: “She’s a girl.”
“What?”
Lin Jia on the other end of the phone was completely stunned.
Wang Lin rushed to finish saying: “She is very good. I like her very much, and she likes me very much too. I want to be with her. I hope you won’t object!”
Silence.
Wang Lin and Mu Fan didn’t know what would follow the silence. They held their breath, their hearts pounding, waiting for Lin Jia’s response.
“Mom, are you there?”
“I’m here.”
Another brief silence.
“I don’t object.”
I don’t object. These four words exploded in Wang Lin’s and Mu Fan’s minds like a clap of thunder from a clear sky.
“What! Mom, what did you say!”
“I said, I don’t object. It’s your right to love whoever you want, whether they’re male or female. Mom won’t interfere. As long as the person is of good character. You must remember that scumbags come in all genders. Understand?”
Wang Lin burst into tears of joy. Before hanging up the phone, she threw her arms around Mu Fan, excitedly wanting to jump up: “Mu Fan, did you hear that! Did you hear that! My mom doesn’t object! She doesn’t object!”
She was unbelievably excited, feeling like she was dreaming. “I don’t object”—these were the greatest, most heartwarming words she had ever heard in her life!
“Is she next to you?” Lin Jia asked again on the phone.
“She is!”
Mu Fan’s throat felt constricted. She managed to squeeze out a few dry words: “Hello, Auntie.”
“Mhm. Come visit sometime with Lin Lin.”
“Okay.”
“I have to get back to work now. You two, enjoy.”
“Mhm! Bye, Mom! I love you!” Wang Lin didn’t notice that Lin Jia was the one who initiated hanging up.
After hanging up with Lin Jia, Wang Lin put her phone away, unable to resist leaping into Mu Fan’s arms. She straddled Mu Fan’s legs, facing her, overjoyed: “My mom doesn’t object! My mom agrees to us being together! Did you hear that! I’m so happy! I feel like I could fly!” She didn’t forget to “interrogate” Mu Fan: “Ms. Mu, what do you have to say now! Huh?”
Not far away, the two bodyguards watched the scene. The male colleague asked Si Qing: “They succeeded?”
Si Qing’s eyes were only on the two people on the bench, and she wore an “auntie smile” [a fond, knowing expression]: “Looks like it.”
“They seemed to have called General Manager Lin. You think General Manager Lin really doesn’t object?” the colleague asked.
Si Qing leaned against a tree, arms crossed, looking profound and mysterious.
“You know our General Manager Lin, she’s 36 and still quite young, beautiful, and with such excellent conditions, yet she’s never had any tabloid rumors with any men. Why do you think that is?”
The colleague’s expression turned to surprise: “Don’t tell me the rumors are true?”
Si Qing said: “I guess so. My ‘Gaydar’ is very accurate.”
Then Si Qing’s expression turned dejected: “Alas, I’m straight, so how is my Gaydar so accurate?”
Colleague: “…”
On the bench, Wang Lin’s forehead rested against Mu Fan’s forehead. She continued to ask: “What do you have to say?”
“I have nothing to say.” Mu Fan rubbed against Wang Lin. She truly hadn’t expected the outcome to be so smooth. She hadn’t expected Wang Lin’s mother to be so open-minded, not objecting at all. She felt like she was dreaming. No, she had never even dreamed of a situation like this. It felt more unreal than a dream.
“Wang Lin, am I dreaming?”
“No! Silly!”
“I—” She hugged Wang Lin tightly, unable to express her current feelings.
Wang Lin lifted her forehead from Mu Fan’s, sitting up straight on Mu Fan’s lap. Her expression suddenly became serious and earnest.
“Mu Fan.”
“Now, what is our relationship?”
What is our relationship?
Wang Lin had asked the same question when she confessed to Mu Fan before.
She asked again, more directly: “Will you be my girlfriend?”
“I will…”
Wang Lin hugged Mu Fan again, unable to stop smiling. As she smiled, her voice turned into a sob.
“I’m so happy,” she sniffled. “Boohoohoo… You bad woman… Do you know how sad I was during this time? How much I suffered, boohoohoo…”
“But it’s okay,” she cried and laughed at the same time. “You came back.”
“Mhm, I came back.” Mu Fan gently patted her back, continuously rubbing her head against her. “I’m sorry. I made you suffer.”
“What about you? How were you doing alone after that?”
Mu Fan murmured: “Not good.”
She added: “Very not good.”
She was telling the truth. After they separated, her state was no better than Wang Lin’s. She just constantly used work to numb herself, to escape, as if she had become a machine.
“Mu Fan,” Wang Lin called softly. “Let’s go home, okay? To your place. I’m so hungry. I want to eat the food you make.”
Home?
But the job in J City…
“Oh, do you have to go back to work? Were you on another business trip? Your apartment light was never on.”
Wang Lin said this casually, but Mu Fan could analyze the crucial information from her words.
How many times did this girl look up at her apartment, only to turn away disappointed again and again?
Her eyes became moist again. Her heart ached with sympathy.
“Mhm, in J City. I went there right after returning from K City without stopping.”
Wang Lin moved away from her and stood up.
She forced a smile: “Mhm, you go then. Work is important.”
Mu Fan shook her head. No matter what, she couldn’t leave her at this moment.
She took Wang Lin’s hand; the touch was cold: “We’ll go back tomorrow. If possible, I’ll take leave and go back the day after tomorrow.”
Mu Fan chose her over work. Wang Lin’s heart was filled with sweetness, and she beamed: “Mhm!”
The two walked hand in hand along the tree-lined path. The sun had completely set, leaving only a streak of red glow on the horizon.
Suddenly, Mu Fan’s phone rang. She looked at the number; it was her temporary assistant. She frowned.
Wang Lin saw her expression and immediately realized: “Is that a work call?”
“Mhm.” Mu Fan didn’t deny it.
“Answer it. It’s okay, I don’t mind.” She said she didn’t mind, but her tone and gaze revealed her disappointment, and even a hint of fear. What was she afraid of? Afraid that I would leave again?
Mu Fan thought for a moment about what it could be. When she left today, the situation was bad. It was either the other party still wouldn’t sign, or the collaboration would break off completely.
She thought, It doesn’t matter.
No matter what it was, she wouldn’t leave Wang Lin tonight.
She answered the phone and asked: “Assistant Wang?”
“They signed! They signed! They signed the contract!”
Mu Fan was very surprised: “Huh?”
“Your attitude when you left, Miss Mu, really scared the other party off. They called just now, willing to sign and promising never to go back on their word again. By the way, Miss Mu, where did you go? Aren’t you coming back tonight?”
“I’m in S City now. I won’t be coming back. You handle the rest.”
They were close, so Wang Lin also heard the conversation.
“Home!” Mu Fan pressed her forehead against Wang Lin’s, her eyes full of tenderness.
The two walked hand in hand in the twilight. Wang Lin occasionally grabbed the corner of Mu Fan’s clothes and spun around, then bounced in front of Mu Fan, smiling foolishly, her happiness overflowing.
The girl shouted up at the sky: “I’M SO HAPPY!!!!”
